To share the original TikTok, open the post, tap Share, then choose an Instagram option if one appears—or tap Copy link and paste the URL into Instagram. To post the actual video file as an Instagram Story or Reel, tap Share → Save video in TikTok first, then upload the saved file in Instagram. The download option appears only when the creator allows downloads.
Choose between sharing a link and uploading the video
These are different actions:

Share a TikTok link on Instagram
- Open the TikTok video.
- Tap the Share arrow.
- Tap Instagram or Instagram Stories if that option is available.
- If Instagram is not listed, tap Copy link.
- Open Instagram and paste the link into a Direct message, Story link sticker where available, profile bio, or another suitable location.
A direct share option does not always create an Instagram video post. Depending on the integration and your device, it may hand the link to Instagram or create a shareable preview. If the goal is to upload the video itself, use the download-and-upload method below.
Post a TikTok video to an Instagram Story
Save the TikTok video
- Open the TikTok post.
- Tap Share.
- Tap Save video.
TikTok says Save video appears only when the creator permits downloads. See TikTok’s download instructions.

- Open Instagram.
- Tap Your story, the + button, or swipe right from the feed.
- Open the phone’s media picker and select the saved TikTok.
- Resize or reposition the video as needed.
- Add text, stickers, mentions, music, or a link where appropriate.
- Tap Share or Your story.
If you shared a TikTok URL rather than selecting a saved video, Instagram may show a link or preview instead of a full video Story. Select the video file from your camera roll when you want a visual upload.

Post a TikTok as an Instagram Reel
- Open Instagram and tap +.
- Choose Reel.
- Select the saved TikTok from your camera roll.
- Trim or edit the clip.
- Choose a cover.
- Add a caption and optional tags.
- Review the crop and audio, then publish.
TikTok captions, comments, likes, and engagement do not transfer as native Instagram metadata. Rewrite the caption for Instagram, check mentions and hashtags, and preview the video before posting.
Send a TikTok through Instagram Direct
Send the original post as a link
- In TikTok, tap Share and then Copy link.
- Open the Instagram conversation.
- Paste the TikTok URL and send it.
This is the best option when you want the recipient to view the original post or when downloading is disabled.
Send the saved video file
- Save the TikTok video to your phone, if downloading is permitted.
- Open the Instagram conversation.
- Tap the gallery or media button. Its location can vary by app version and device.
- Select the video and send it.
A private or deleted TikTok may not open for the recipient. Private posts can require the viewer to be logged in and approved, while deleted posts may no longer be available at all.

What to do when “Save video” is missing
The most common explanation is that the creator has disabled downloads. TikTok also notes that privacy and account circumstances can affect downloading. Do not assume that an unavailable button can or should be bypassed.
- Tap Share → Copy link.
- Send the link through Instagram Direct or use it on an appropriate Instagram surface.
- If you need to repost the file, ask the creator to send the original and confirm permission.
Disabling downloads does not prevent every form of sharing: TikTok says links and direct messages can still be used. Its current controls are documented in Manage video downloads.
Share your own TikTok without losing quality
If you are the creator, keep a clean master file rather than downloading your published TikTok later. On TikTok’s posting screen, open More options and turn on Save to device. TikTok also provides a Save control during editing where available.

Then upload the original export separately to TikTok and Instagram. This avoids another download and re-upload cycle, gives you more control over the Instagram cover and caption, and can avoid carrying TikTok branding into the Instagram version. A TikTok download is not necessarily the original-quality file; repeated downloading, messaging, screen recording, and re-uploading can make the result softer or blurrier.
Watermarks, credit, copyright, and music
Watermarks
The standard TikTok download route may include TikTok branding and the creator’s username. It is an official sharing method, not a watermark-removal method. Random downloader sites are unnecessary for the basic task and can introduce tracking, deceptive buttons, malware, privacy, and attribution risks.
Credit is not permission
When sharing somebody else’s TikTok, identify the original creator with their TikTok username and a link or tag where practical. Credit is good practice, but it does not automatically grant permission or make a repost lawful. If you plan to upload the file, obtain permission when appropriate and respect the creator’s download settings.

Music may not transfer between platforms
A soundtrack allowed on TikTok may not be licensed for use on Instagram. The video can upload successfully while the audio is muted, restricted, or unavailable in some locations. Use original audio where possible, check that music is cleared for both platforms, and be prepared to replace the soundtrack with Instagram-available audio.

- Tap Save photo.
- Select all photos or individual photos if prompted.
- Tap Save.
You can then use the saved images in an Instagram Story, a carousel post, or a slideshow-style creation where that Instagram flow is available.

Instagram labels and creation controls can change by operating system, account type, region, and app version. If a button is not visible, use the closest current media-picker or share-sheet option rather than assuming the feature is unavailable permanently.

Want to preserve the original TikTok? Share its link. Want a native Instagram Story or Reel? Save the video and upload the file, provided downloads are allowed. For the best quality, use your original export; if downloading is disabled, share the link or obtain the file and permission from the creator.
