One Battle After Another began streaming on HBO Max on December 19, 2025. As of August 18, 2026, Paul Thomas Anderson’s political action thriller is already available rather than awaiting its streaming release. When did it start streaming?
Warner Bros. announced that One Battle After Another would make its global streaming debut exclusively on HBO Max on Friday, December 19, 2025. That date has now passed. The film also received its HBO linear television premiere on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at 8 p.m. ET, according to the Warner Bros. announcement.

The word “exclusively” described the announced subscription-streaming launch. It did not prevent the film from later appearing as a separate rental or purchase through digital movie stores.
Is it on Max or HBO Max?
The streaming announcement used the name HBO Max. The service had been branded Max in the United States, but its official help center says the HBO Max name is returning during summer 2026. The company says the app experience, programming, plans and pricing remain unchanged during the transition.
In practice, search for One Battle After Another in whichever version of the service appears in your region or app store. The branding may not be identical in every international market.

What is the film about?
Leonardo DiCaprio plays Bob Ferguson, a washed-up former revolutionary living off the grid with his daughter, Willa. When a dangerous figure from Bob’s past resurfaces, he and a group of former revolutionaries reunite to protect or rescue her.
The film draws inspiration from Thomas Pynchon’s novel Vineland. Its story combines political conflict with family drama, action, mystery and dark comedy, making it broader than a conventional thriller.

The same page lists two simultaneous streams for Basic with Ads and Standard, and four for Premium. Standard includes downloads, while Premium adds higher download limits and 4K Ultra HD and Dolby Atmos for eligible content, devices and plans. Confirm current prices and features at checkout; subscription terms are subject to change.
Rent if you only want one viewing
A digital rental can make more sense for someone who does not want another monthly bill. Rental windows and prices vary by vendor, and a rental does not provide permanent access. Check whether the platform’s terms give you a limited period to start or finish the film.
