Crunchyroll works on Google TV, but that does not mean Google TV has fully absorbed Crunchyroll’s anime catalog. The confirmed experience is the Crunchyroll app, which you can install and use on supported Google TV and Android TV devices. Whether titles also appear in Google TV search, recommendations, Watchlist, or Continue watching can depend on the title, region, device, account settings, and service support.
So “finally fully integrated” overstates what the available official documentation confirms. Here’s what works, how to set it up, and how to check the features on your own device.
App support is not the same as full integration
“Crunchyroll on Google TV” can describe several different things, and they are not interchangeable:
- App access: Open Crunchyroll from Google TV and browse or watch inside the Crunchyroll app. This is supported; Crunchyroll lists Android TV and Google TV among its supported platforms.
- System search: Search Google TV for an anime and see a Crunchyroll result. This may work for some titles and setups, but does not prove that every Crunchyroll title is indexed.
- Watchlist or Continue watching: Add a title to Google TV’s cross-service list or resume it from the home screen. These features depend on service participation and title availability.
- Recommendations or native catalog integration: Crunchyroll titles are incorporated into Google TV’s discovery experience. Google describes content integration and account linking as possibilities for third-party services, but the official documentation cited here does not establish that Crunchyroll’s complete library has been newly integrated.
Google says content discovery and account linking vary by service, device, region, and title. Some streaming content cannot be added to the Google TV Watchlist, and not every service supports Continue watching. Google’s overview of content and account linking and its guidance on Watchlist limitations explain why one successful search result—or one missing title—does not settle the question for every device.

Crunchyroll’s own Google TV setup guide covers installing and using the app, profiles, playback language and captions, casting, mature-content settings, and history controls. It does not promise a dedicated Crunchyroll tab in Google TV or guaranteed synchronization of Crunchyroll’s catalog, Watchlist, or playback history.
Install Crunchyroll on Google TV
- From the Google TV home screen, open Apps.
- Select Search in the upper-right corner.
- Search for Crunchyroll.
- Select the app and choose Install.
To check for an update, open Apps, search for Crunchyroll, and select Update if that option appears. The alternative path in Crunchyroll’s guide is profile icon → Your apps → Manage updates → See available updates, then select Crunchyroll.
Crunchyroll lists Android TV/Google TV support with a minimum Android version of 5.1 on its supported devices page. That minimum is not a guarantee that every older television will offer the app or run it well. Google TV is an interface used on different televisions and streaming devices; manufacturers, software versions, country settings, and app-store availability can differ.

Sign in and activate the app
- Open Crunchyroll on the TV and choose the sign-in or Activate with Code option.
- Note the six-character code shown on screen.
- On a phone or computer, go to Crunchyroll’s activation page, enter the code, and sign in.
- Check that you have selected the Crunchyroll account you intend to use before completing activation.
If you sign in with a different account, its profiles, viewing history, and subscription access may not match what you expect. Installing the app does not move an existing subscription or change where it is billed. Billing depends on how the membership was purchased; check that provider’s account settings for subscription changes.

- Multiple profiles.
- Audio-language selection during playback and closed captions where available.
- Caption styling and audio or subtitle language preferences.
- Casting from a mobile device on the same network.
- Mature-content controls.
- Options to clear watch and search history.
These are features of using Crunchyroll on the device. They should not be mistaken for proof that Google TV and Crunchyroll share every profile, list, recommendation, or playback state. Audio and subtitle options vary by title and language; check the episode’s playback menu rather than assuming every show has a particular dub or subtitle track.
Is the Crunchyroll library free on Google TV?
No—installing the app does not unlock the full on-demand Crunchyroll library for free. Access to the full Premium experience requires a Crunchyroll Premium membership. The price and billing route can vary by country, plan, promotion, and where you subscribe; check Crunchyroll’s current membership options for your location.

It is not the same as unrestricted access to the on-demand app library. Crunchyroll’s Channel support page lists selected destinations, including LG and Vizio smart TVs, Amazon Freevee, and Roku; it does not list Google TV as a Crunchyroll Channel destination.
Availability also varies by territory and licensing agreement. A title shown in the Crunchyroll app may not be available in every country, and Google TV search results should not be treated as a complete inventory of Crunchyroll’s regional catalog. Crunchyroll’s device guide, updated February 4, 2025, cited more than 50,000 episodes and 25,000 hours across anime series, music, and movies; those are dated figures, not a verified current catalog count. Check what Google TV can find on your device
Google TV’s search and discovery features can behave differently across devices and accounts. To check whether a particular title is surfaced through Crunchyroll on your setup:

- Install Crunchyroll and sign in to the correct account.
- If Google TV offers streaming-service selections in its settings, select Crunchyroll. Select only services you actually use.
- Search Google TV for a title you have confirmed is available in the Crunchyroll app in your country.
- Check what the result does: does it open Crunchyroll, show a provider or “Ways to watch” option, or merely display title information?
- Where the interface allows it, try adding the title to Google TV’s Watchlist. Then play part of an episode in Crunchyroll and check whether it appears in Continue watching.
- Repeat with several kinds of titles—an older series, a current simulcast, a movie, and, where relevant, a dubbed or subtitled version.
This is a consumer check, not a guarantee of behavior across all Google TV devices. A result for one title does not show that the whole catalog is indexed; a missing Watchlist or Continue watching entry may reflect service limitations rather than a broken installation. Troubleshooting common problems
Crunchyroll does not appear in the app search
First confirm that the television or device actually runs Google TV or Android TV, rather than another manufacturer’s smart-TV system. Then check your internet connection, device software, Play Store components, and region. Google says Basic Mode does not allow users to search for or install apps; check whether the device is in that mode. If the manufacturer no longer supports the device, app availability may also be affected.
The app opens, but the library looks incomplete
Confirm you are signed in to the intended account and have the subscription needed for the content you want. Check whether the title is licensed in your region and whether the specific dub or subtitle version is available. Also make sure you are using the on-demand Crunchyroll app, not confusing it with a separate curated channel. Google TV search may not expose every title the app carries.
Google TV finds a title, but it will not play
A search result identifies content; it does not guarantee that the title is available in your country, included with your account, or playable from that particular Google TV screen. Open the Crunchyroll app directly and search there to check availability and available audio or subtitle versions.
Watchlist or Continue watching does not update
Check the active Google TV profile and Crunchyroll account, and make sure Crunchyroll is selected in Google TV’s streaming-service settings if that option is available. Play part of an episode directly in Crunchyroll, then check again. Update the app and restart the device. If the features still do not sync, use Crunchyroll’s own history and lists; Google notes that participation in cross-service features is not universal.

The app is installed but misbehaving
Update Crunchyroll, restart the television or streaming device, and reopen the app. If the problem persists, remove and reinstall it, then activate it again with the correct account. Menu labels and reset options can vary by manufacturer and Google TV software version.
Is Google TV a good way to watch Crunchyroll?
It is a convenient choice if you already own a supported Google TV device and want to launch anime alongside other streaming apps from one television interface. Crunchyroll’s app provides the viewing experience; Google TV can add cross-service discovery where supported.
Do not buy a Google TV television or streamer on the assumption that hardware will unlock Premium access or guarantee complete catalog indexing and list synchronization. A new device can add the Google TV interface to a compatible television, but it cannot change Crunchyroll’s subscription requirements, regional licensing, or feature support. Likewise, a bundle is useful only if you want the other service it includes. For example, Amazon announced a U.S.-only STARZ and Crunchyroll bundle through Prime Video at $16.99 per month for new customers on July 29, 2026; see Amazon’s announcement for its terms. Anime-only viewers should compare the bundle with the appropriate direct Crunchyroll plan before subscribing.
For the most reliable browsing and playback, treat the Crunchyroll app as the source of truth for its available catalog. Google TV is a useful front door—not confirmed evidence that Crunchyroll’s entire library has become native to the platform.
