Google’s media-review profile gathers a user’s public reviews of movies, TV shows and other media on one page. Where the feature is available, Google says the profile is public by default. You can make the profile private, delete individual reviews or remove the profile—but making it private does not necessarily remove reviews or identifying details from Google Search.
What Google’s review profile does
This is a profile layer for Google’s existing audience-review feature, not a separate movie-review app. Google says a profile is created automatically after you post a media review. It can bring together reviews of movies, TV shows, books, video games, products and music albums. Availability varies by locale.
The profile may show your Google Account profile name and photo, along with your public posts. Google also describes post counts and engagement information; some metrics, such as votes or profile views, may be visible only to you. Changing the name or picture used for your profile may affect those details across other Google services, so check Google’s profile and audience-review guidance before changing them.
What changed in June 2024?
Google’s profile rollout was reported on June 21, 2024, with public visibility and searchability expected to begin globally on June 24. The important change was the collection of reviews in a more discoverable profile—not necessarily that every review became public for the first time. Google told TechCrunch that the reviews were already public; a profile made it easier to browse multiple reviews associated with one person. The rollout was described as covering media reviews, not Google Maps reviews. TechCrunch’s report on the rollout has that original context.

That distinction matters in practice. A review scattered beneath a title page is one thing; a single page that connects a person’s opinions across many titles is a more legible history. Profiles can be searchable, but that does not mean every profile will appear in every name search. Google says the feature is available only in certain locales.
Why a consolidated profile can matter
A collection of reviews can reveal more than a person’s opinion of one film. Taken together, media choices may suggest cultural, political, religious or family interests, and the name or photo attached to them may connect the activity to a real identity. That can matter to anyone who wants to keep entertainment preferences separate from their public or professional presence.

Searchability, scraping, advertising profiles or employer scrutiny are potential privacy concerns, not proof that Google’s feature is specifically used for hiring decisions or any particular form of targeting. The practical point is simpler: if you do not want a set of reviews readily browsable under your identity, review the profile and its individual posts rather than assuming the reviews are isolated.

Check whether you have a profile
- Sign in to the Google Account you used to write the review.
- Go to profile.google.com.
- Alternatively, open one of your media reviews and select the profile icon beside it.
If no profile or controls appear, check that you are using the correct account. The feature may not be available in your locale, or you may be looking at a Maps contribution rather than a media audience review. Google can also change its interface, so menu labels may differ by device or account.

Make the profile private
- Open profile.google.com.
- Select the profile icon in the top-right corner.
- Choose Profile options.
- Turn Profile privacy to private.
This limits the normal public view of your consolidated profile and its posts. It is useful if you want to reduce how easily people can browse your review history without deleting the reviews themselves.
Private is not the same as erased. Google warns that posts, names or profile images connected to public content may still appear in Search. A review may also remain on the relevant title page. If your aim is to remove a particular review from Google, delete that review rather than relying on the privacy toggle.

Delete one review
You can remove a review from either the profile or the media page:

- From your profile: Go to profile.google.com, find the review, open its More menu and choose Delete.
- From the title page: Search Google for the movie, show, book, game, product or album. Open Audience reviews, open the More menu beside your review and choose Delete.
Google says deleting a review this way removes it from Google. This is the appropriate option when you want that post removed, rather than merely making the profile less visible. See Google’s instructions for managing audience reviews if the controls are not where you expect.

Delete the whole profile
Depending on your locale, Google may require you to delete all audience reviews before it lets you delete the profile. If so, remove the reviews first using the steps above, then:
- Go to profile.google.com.
- Open the profile icon or Profile options.
- Select Delete profile and confirm.
Deleting this public profile does not delete your Google Account, Gmail or Drive. Google’s profile deletion clarification explains that distinction. If you post another audience review later, Google may create a new profile.
Media profiles are not Google Maps review profiles
The 2024 rollout report specifically excluded Google Maps reviews. Media audience reviews and Maps contributions are distinct review systems. Google’s broader public-contribution identity guidance does discuss how names and photos can appear across Search and Maps, so the identity displayed on one Google contribution may relate to details used elsewhere—but that does not mean Maps reviews are part of this media-review profile. If you are trying to remove a Maps review, use the Maps contribution controls rather than these audience-review steps.
