The Prime Video sci-fi comic series in the headline is Invincible, but “officially returns next week” is outdated: Season 4 premiered March 18, 2026, its eight-episode run ended April 22, 2026, and all four seasons are streaming now on Prime Video as of August 12, 2026.
The headline’s “near-perfect” description refers to Season 4’s exceptionally strong Rotten Tomatoes reception. The current story is not an imminent Season 4 launch: it is an identification and status update for a series whose latest season has already finished, with Seasons 5 and 6 confirmed for the future.
Key takeaways
- Invincible is the Prime Video adult-animated sci-fi superhero series identified by the headline.
- Season 4 premiered on March 18, 2026, released three episodes at once, and concluded with its eighth episode on April 22, 2026.
- Prime Video’s official explainer says all four seasons are streaming now as of July 1, 2026.
- Rotten Tomatoes lists Season 4 at 100% from 26 critic reviews and 87% from more than 500 audience ratings at the time of research.
- Seasons 5 and 6 are confirmed, with Season 5 planned for 2027 but no specific premiere date announced in the reviewed sources.
What series is the headline talking about?
The series is Invincible, Prime Video’s adult-animated adaptation of the comic-book property associated with Robert Kirkman, Cory Walker, Ryan Ottley, Image Comics, and Skybound.
The story follows Mark Grayson, a teenager whose father, Nolan Grayson—better known as Omni-Man—is the most powerful superhero on Earth. Mark’s attempt to become a hero develops into a violent, serialized science-fiction drama about Viltrumites, interplanetary politics, family loyalty, and the consequences of extraordinary power.

Although Invincible uses familiar superhero ideas, the series combines them with action-adventure, science fiction, and family drama. The adult animation is central to the show’s identity: the series treats superhuman battles as events with severe physical, political, and emotional consequences rather than as isolated episodes that reset afterward.
Did Invincible really return next week?
No. The phrase “officially returns next week” is stale as of August 12, 2026. Season 4 already premiered on March 18, 2026, and the finale arrived on April 22, 2026. Prime Video’s official update, published July 1, 2026, says all episodes of Season 4 are streaming now.
The original wording belongs to the publication context of the entertainment headline, not to the current release schedule. Readers looking for the season’s present status should use the official Prime Video Season 4 explainer and the Prime Video catalog listing, rather than interpreting “next week” as a new August 2026 release.
What was the Invincible Season 4 release schedule?
Season 4 began with three episodes released together on March 18, 2026, followed by weekly episodes. The eighth and final episode, “Don’t Leave Me Hanging Here,” was dated April 22, 2026, on Prime Video.

Why is Season 4 described as “near-perfect”?
“Near-perfect” is a description of critical reception, not an objective guarantee that every viewer will enjoy the season. According to Rotten Tomatoes’ 2026 Season 4 page, the season had a 100% Tomatometer score from 26 critic reviews and an 87% audience score from more than 500 ratings at the time of research.
The critics’ consensus praises the season’s action, story, characters, and sense of adventure, while arguing that Invincible continues to refresh the superhero format. A 100% Tomatometer result means the counted reviews were marked positive by Rotten Tomatoes; it does not mean that every critic gave the season a perfect score or that the season has universal approval.
Audience reactions include criticism of animation quality, pacing, and individual story decisions. The most accurate summary is therefore that Season 4 received exceptionally strong aggregated critical notices while still producing disagreement among viewers.
What happens in Season 4?
Season 4 places Mark in conflict with new and escalating threats after a worldwide catastrophe. The official synopsis centers on Mark’s guilt, his responsibility to protect Earth, and the strain those responsibilities place on the people he loves.
Prime Video identifies several notable new voice additions: Lee Pace voices Thragg, Matthew Rhys voices Dinosaurus, and Danai Gurira voices Universa. Those characters signal the season’s expanding scope, but the basic premise remains personal as well as cosmic: Mark must decide what protecting his world requires while confronting the consequences of his family’s history.

Viewers who are avoiding spoilers can approach Season 4 as the next stage of the series’ continuing conflict between Mark’s human ideals and the larger Viltrumite power structure. The story remains serialized, so watching earlier seasons first is important for understanding the political and family stakes.
What is coming after Invincible Season 4?
Seasons 5 and 6 are confirmed. Prime Video’s official explainer says both seasons are coming, and Jack Quaid is set to join Season 5 as Gravitator/Chris. The reviewed sources do not give a specific Season 5 premiere day or month.

Skybound’s June 25, 2026 announcement confirms the sixth-season renewal ahead of Season 5’s planned 2027 debut. Skybound also describes the series as on track to become Prime Video’s longest-running animated original series, which is a company statement about the franchise’s position rather than an independent industry ranking.

|---|---|---|
| Season 5 | Confirmed; planned for 2027 | Jack Quaid will join the cast as Gravitator/Chris; no exact premiere date verified |
| Season 6 | Confirmed | Renewed ahead of Season 5’s planned debut |
That outlook means the headline should not be read as announcing a new season arriving immediately after August 12, 2026. Season 4’s return is already complete, while Season 5 remains a future release with a year but no confirmed day or month.
