Yes—selected NFL games are free to watch on Channel 5 in the UK. The deal does not put every NFL game on free-to-air television, but 5 carries two selected Sunday games in many weeks: an earlier game on the main 5 service and a later game on 5Action, which is branded 5NFL on game nights.
You can watch through a television service or stream via 5’s website and app. Check the current weekly listings before kickoff, because the teams and fixtures shown on 5 vary and NFL start times can change.
What NFL games does Channel 5 show?
Channel 5 and Paramount UK announced a multi-year partnership with the NFL and CBS Sports on 28 August 2025. The arrangement provides UK viewers with free-to-air NFL coverage, including weekly regular-season coverage and Super Bowl LX.
The regular-season pattern described by the broadcaster is:

- A second selected Sunday game later in the evening on 5Action. On NFL nights, this service is branded 5NFL.
This is the important qualification: 5 shows selected games, not every NFL game. The two fixtures can change from week to week, so do not rely on a season-long list unless it comes directly from the current 5 schedule.
How to watch NFL on 5 for free
Option 1: Watch on television
- Check the current 5 TV guide or NFL listing for the game you want to watch.
- Use the main 5 channel for the earlier listed game.

The channel number depends on your television platform and location. The relevant service may be available through Freeview, Freesat, NOW TV, YouView or another supported television provider. If you cannot find the game, check the platform’s electronic programme guide and the current 5 listing rather than assuming that the fixture has been cancelled.
Option 2: Stream through the 5 website or app

Watching on a smart TV or streaming device
The 5 service is listed as available on a range of supported devices, including Android TV, Apple TV, Roku boxes and sticks, Amazon Fire TV sticks, YouView and compatible smart televisions. Availability can depend on the device model, software version and UK location.
If your television does not have a supported 5 app, an Amazon Fire TV Stick is one practical way to add access to a compatible TV. It is not necessary if you already have Freeview, a supported smart TV, Roku, Apple TV or another platform that runs 5.
- Install or open the 5 app on the compatible device.
- Sign in to your free 5 account.
- Find the live 5 or 5Action/5NFL listing.
- Start the programme and check that the stream is playing before kickoff.
Check the UK kickoff time before the game
NFL fixtures are played across several US time zones, so the UK start time is not always the same from week to week. The NFL schedule can also be affected by flexible scheduling, particularly later in the season. A game that appears in a provisional slot may subsequently move.
The NFL’s 2026 schedule has been published, but some later details can remain subject to scheduling decisions. For that reason, use the current 5 listing and the NFL’s official UK viewing information as the final check before each game.

Quick answer
- Is NFL on Channel 5 free? Yes, selected NFL games are free to watch in the UK.
- Does 5 show every NFL game? No. It generally carries two selected Sunday games in the described regular-season arrangement.
- Where is the second game? It is shown on 5Action, branded 5NFL during NFL coverage.
- Do I need an account? Online viewing may require a free 5 account; television viewing requirements depend on your platform.
- Can viewers outside the UK use 5? The arrangement and access instructions are for UK viewers. 5 is not a worldwide free NFL service.
What other NFL events may be on 5?
The 5 and Paramount UK announcement also associated the partnership with additional NFL coverage, including international games, Thanksgiving games, three playoff games and Super Bowl LX.
That does not mean every event in those categories should automatically be assumed to be on 5. Broadcast selections and programme details can change. Check the current 5 listings close to the event, especially for playoff and international coverage.
Is 5 enough for an NFL fan?
For a casual viewer, 5 can be all that is needed to watch selected Sunday-night football without paying for a sports subscription. It is particularly useful if you want a convenient free-to-air game rather than the entire NFL season.
It is not a complete replacement for a broader NFL package. Games carried by 5 are selected by the broadcaster, so you cannot choose any team or watch every Sunday, Monday or Thursday game through the free service.

NFL Game Pass on DAZN
NFL Game Pass on DAZN is the broadest UK live-and-on-demand option identified by NFL UK, with more than 170 live games during the season, including playoffs and the Super Bowl, plus replays and additional NFL programming.
There is an important UK limitation. DAZN’s UK guidance says two Sunday regular-season games are subject to live blackouts in the UK and Republic of Ireland: one in the 18:00 BST window and one in the 21:00 BST window. Blacked-out games become available on demand 24 hours after the game, while the stated blackout does not affect playoff games or the Super Bowl.
So DAZN is the stronger choice for breadth, replays and on-demand access, but it should not be described as a guaranteed live replacement for every game available through UK broadcasters.
Sky Sports NFL
Sky Sports NFL is another paid UK option. NFL UK identifies it as carrying selected Sunday, Monday and Thursday night games, as well as other NFL programming. Its exact live schedule, packages and pricing should be checked with Sky before subscribing.

Why a game may not appear on 5
- You are looking at the wrong service: the later game may be on 5Action/5NFL rather than the main 5 channel.
- The listing has changed: NFL fixtures can be moved under flexible scheduling.
- The programme is not one of 5’s selections: many NFL games remain exclusive to other broadcasters or services.
- Your location is outside the UK: the 5 arrangement is intended for UK viewers and may not be available elsewhere.
- Your app or device is unsupported: check whether your television, streaming box or mobile device is compatible with 5.
- You have not completed account registration: online viewing can require a free 5 account and sign-in.
Do not use a VPN to try to bypass territorial rights or live-game blackouts. Availability is governed by broadcast rights, and circumventing those restrictions can breach a service’s terms.
Best way to find this week’s free NFL game
- Open the current 5 programme guide or NFL listing.
- Look for the main 5 listing for the early Sunday game.
- Look for the 5Action or 5NFL listing for the later Sunday game.
- Confirm the kickoff time in UK local time.
- Check the listing again on game day in case flexible scheduling or a programme change has affected the broadcast.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I watch NFL on Channel 5 without paying?
Yes. Selected NFL games are available free in the UK on 5, subject to the broadcaster’s schedule. Online viewing may require a free 5 account, while television access depends on your TV platform.
Does Channel 5 show the Super Bowl?
The 5 and Paramount UK partnership announcement includes Super Bowl LX among the associated coverage. Confirm the current 5 listing and broadcast details before the event.
Which Channel 5 service shows the second NFL game?
The later selected Sunday game is described as being on 5Action, which is branded 5NFL during NFL coverage.
Can I watch every NFL game free on 5?
No. 5 carries selected games and events, not the complete NFL schedule. The teams and fixtures vary, so check the weekly listings.
Is NFL Game Pass on DAZN completely live in the UK?
Not for every regular-season game. DAZN’s UK guidance describes live blackouts for two Sunday-window games—the 18:00 BST and 21:00 BST windows—with those games becoming available on demand 24 hours later. Playoff games and the Super Bowl are not affected by those stated blackouts.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: UK viewers can watch selected NFL games free on 5, with one game on the main channel and another on 5Action/5NFL in the described Sunday arrangement. Use the current 5 listings to confirm the teams, service and kickoff time. If you want broader coverage, compare Sky Sports NFL with NFL Game Pass on DAZN—but remember DAZN’s stated UK live-blackout rules for two Sunday regular-season windows.
