The best choice depends on the channels and number of simultaneous viewers you need—not simply the number of channels advertised. This U.S. pricing snapshot was checked August 12, 2026; Sling’s offers and “from” prices can change, so verify the live checkout price before subscribing.
As of August 12, 2026, Sling TV’s advertised base-plan prices range from $19.99 per month for its compact Essentials or Select packages to $60.99 per month for Orange & Blue. The right plan depends less on the number of channels than on which channels you need: Essentials and Orange emphasize ESPN and family programming, Select and Blue are stronger for news and entertainment, and Orange & Blue combines the two major lineups.
These are Sling’s advertised prices for U.S. service. Sling changes promotions, introductory offers, and package pricing, so check the official plan comparison immediately before subscribing.

Three prices that should not be confused
1. Regular monthly billing
A monthly plan renews until you cancel. The prices above should be read as advertised starting prices, especially where the table says “from.” Taxes, optional Extras, and upgrades can increase the amount charged.
2. Three-month prepayment
Sling’s comparison page also displays these three-month prepay offers:
| Plan | Displayed three-month prepay price |
|---|---|
| Essentials | $54.99 |
| Select | From $49.99 |
| Essentials & Select | From $94.99 |
| Orange | $114.99 |
| Blue | From $114.99 |
| Orange & Blue | From $159.99 |
These are displayed prepayment offers, not ordinary month-to-month totals. Eligibility, renewal treatment, and the exact package included should be confirmed at checkout. Do not assume a promotional or prepaid rate will remain the permanent renewal price.
3. Short-term Orange passes
Sling offers short-term access to Sling Orange: a 1-day, 3-day, or 7-day pass. The help information describes these as 24-, 72-, and 168-hour periods beginning immediately after checkout. The comparison page displays the 1-day Orange option at $4.99 per day.

They end automatically, cannot be paused or cancelled, and do not require a cancellation request. Sling lists Extras at $1 for a 1-day pass, $2 for a 3-day pass, and $3 for a 7-day pass. A pass can be upgraded to a monthly subscription, with unused value prorated according to Sling’s terms. See Sling’s current comparison page for the offer shown when you buy.
Which Sling plan should you choose?
Choose Essentials for the lowest-cost ESPN and family option
Essentials is the compact option to examine first if your priority is ESPN and family programming and you only need one simultaneous stream. It shows 10-plus paid channels and one stream at $19.99 per month.
The trade-off is limited breadth. Essentials is not the natural choice for a household that wants multiple people watching different channels, or for someone whose main requirement is a broad news and entertainment lineup.
Choose Select for budget news viewing
Select is the other compact package advertised from $19.99 per month. Sling positions it around FOX News and budget-oriented news viewing. It shows 10-plus paid channels and up to three simultaneous streams, making its stream allowance more flexible than Essentials.

Check the current channel list rather than relying on the plan name. If you also need ESPN, Disney programming, or a larger entertainment selection, Select alone may not be enough.
Choose Essentials & Select for a cheaper two-package combination
Essentials & Select is advertised from $34.99 per month and shows 15-plus paid channels with up to four streams. It combines the two smaller packages for viewers who want both their core ESPN/family and budget news selections without moving immediately to Orange & Blue.
Compare its actual channel list and current price with the larger plans before subscribing. A lower channel count can be good value when it contains exactly what you watch, but it may not replace a full sports or entertainment package.
Choose Orange for ESPN, sports, and family programming
Orange is Sling’s sports-and-family package. Sling highlights ESPN and Disney programming, and the plan shows 30-plus paid channels. It is advertised from $45.99 per month after the displayed prepay offer, and the comparison page also shows a $4.99 one-day option.
Orange permits only one simultaneous stream. That limitation applies even when the household subscription is being used by more than one person, and some Orange-exclusive channels cannot be watched simultaneously by multiple viewers.
Important: Sling Orange does not include local channels. If local broadcast stations matter to you, check your alternatives before choosing it.
Choose Blue for news, reality television, and drama
Blue is advertised from $45.99 per month and shows 40-plus paid channels with up to three simultaneous streams. Sling positions it around news, reality TV, and drama, including CNN, FOX News, and Bravo programming.
Blue is the more logical starting point for viewers who want a broader entertainment and news mix rather than ESPN-centered sports and family programming. Local-channel availability varies by location, so enter your ZIP code instead of assuming that a particular station is included.

Choose Orange & Blue for the broadest lineup
Orange & Blue is advertised from $60.99 per month and shows 50-plus paid channels with up to four simultaneous streams. It combines the sports and family emphasis of Orange with Blue’s news and entertainment programming.
This is the plan to compare first when different people in the household need different Sling lineups. It is not identical to having four unrestricted Orange streams: Sling says one Orange-exclusive channel can be watched alongside up to three other channels. Confirm the specific channel and stream rules if simultaneous sports viewing is the reason you are upgrading.
Local channels: check your ZIP code before subscribing
Local-channel access is one of the most important variables in Sling’s pricing decision. Sling says Blue, Select, Essentials & Select, and Orange & Blue may include some local channels, but availability depends on the viewer’s location. Sling Orange does not include local channels.
Sling’s local-channel page advertises FOX, NBC, and ABC in designated markets starting at $24.99 per month. That wording does not mean every customer receives all three networks. Enter your ZIP code and review the result for your market at Sling’s channel FAQ and local-channel information before treating local coverage as part of the package.
An over-the-air antenna may be a better solution for free broadcast stations. Sling says an AirTV Anywhere or AirTV 2 paired with an OTA antenna can integrate free local channels such as ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, PBS, and Univision into the Sling guide, where available. An antenna receives broadcast television; it does not provide Sling’s paid national sports, news, or entertainment channels.
If you are missing local stations, an indoor TV antenna for local channels may be worth considering. Check reception at your address, the antenna’s return policy, and compatibility before buying; indoor reception varies with distance, terrain, building materials, and broadcaster location.
Streams and DVR: the costs beyond the base price
Simultaneous streams
- Essentials: 1 stream.
- Select: 3 streams.
- Essentials & Select: up to 4 streams.
- Orange: 1 stream.
- Blue: 3 streams.
- Orange & Blue: up to 4 streams, subject to Orange-channel limitations.
“Up to four” does not mean every channel can be watched by four people at once. The Orange restrictions are especially relevant to households that expect multiple viewers to watch different Orange-exclusive channels.
Cloud DVR
Paid Sling base packages include 50 hours of cloud DVR storage. Sling advertises Unlimited DVR as an optional $5-per-month upgrade. Freestream viewers with a Sling account receive 10 hours of DVR storage.

- Compact without compromises: Our sleek design won’t block neighboring HDMI ports, so you can switch from streaming to gaming with ease. Plus, it’s designed to stay hidden behind your TV, keeping wires neatly out of sight
Some channels cannot be recorded, and Sling says local channels received through an over-the-air antenna cannot be recorded. If recording one particular network is essential, verify that network’s DVR eligibility rather than assuming the upgrade removes every restriction.
What you need to use Sling TV
Sling requires a compatible streaming device or smart TV and a reliable internet connection. Sling lists 3 Mbps as the minimum connection requirement and recommends 25 Mbps for a good experience when watching on multiple devices. Those are Sling’s stated requirements, not an independent performance test.
Supported platforms listed by Sling include:
- Amazon Fire TV devices and Fire TV Stick
- Roku
- Apple TV
- Android TV and Google TV
- Chromecast
- LG, Samsung, and Vizio smart TVs
- TiVo Stream 4K
- Xbox
- Amazon Fire tablets, iPhone and iPad, and Android devices
- Computers using Chrome or Safari
A TV without a supported built-in app may need a streaming player. Sling specifically supports the Amazon Fire TV Stick for Sling TV, but check the current model, Sling compatibility, price, and Amazon listing before purchasing. A streaming stick enables access to Sling; it does not include a Sling subscription.
Sling also describes the AirTV Mini as an HDMI-connected device that can combine Sling with other streaming services. AirTV hardware is optional, not a prerequisite for Sling. If you are considering an AirTV setup, verify the current device model, availability, antenna requirements, and local-channel support first.

Cancellation, passes, and gift cards
Monthly subscriptions
Sling says monthly subscribers can cancel at any time and continue watching through the period already paid for. You are not charged again unless you resubscribe. Cancelling does not generally create an immediate refund for unused time, so check the account’s renewal date before cancelling.
Day passes
One-, three-, and seven-day passes expire automatically after their stated 24-, 72-, or 168-hour period. They are non-recurring and cannot be paused or cancelled. This makes a pass suitable for a short event or brief trial, but the clock begins immediately after checkout rather than when you first start watching later.
Gift cards
Sling gift cards do not expire and can be applied toward monthly Sling plans. They cannot be used for 1-, 3-, or 7-day passes, promotional offers, devices, or certain accounts billed through third parties. The gift-card terms state that the offers apply to Sling TV services in the United States. Read the gift-card terms before purchasing one for someone else.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.A practical way to calculate your real Sling cost
- List the must-have channels. Start with networks, not the plan’s channel count. Identify whether ESPN, FOX News, CNN, Bravo, Disney programming, or local broadcast stations is essential.
- Enter your ZIP code. Confirm local-channel availability and do not count on Orange for local stations.
- Count viewers. One stream may be enough for a solo viewer; a family may need Blue, Select, or Orange & Blue, while remembering the Orange-exclusive restrictions.
- Add DVR needs. Include the advertised $5-per-month Unlimited DVR upgrade only if 50 hours is insufficient and the programs you want can be recorded.
- Compare Extras. A cheaper base plan plus targeted Extras may cost less than a larger package, but calculate the recurring total rather than comparing only headline prices.
- Separate one-time and recurring charges. A prepay offer or day pass should not be compared with a normal monthly renewal price without labeling the difference.
- Check the offer at checkout. Promotions and eligibility can change, and displayed “from” prices may depend on the selected offer or package configuration.
Bottom line: which Sling plan is the best value?
Essentials is the lowest advertised entry point for ESPN and family programming; Select is the budget news option; Orange is the sports-and-family choice; Blue is the stronger news-and-entertainment choice; and Orange & Blue is the broadest option for households that need both. Essentials & Select can be a sensible middle ground when its smaller lineup covers your priorities.

For documentary viewers who mainly want occasional live news, sports, or broadcast programming alongside on-demand documentaries, a compact plan or short-term Orange pass may be more economical than paying for the broadest package every month.
