What is Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank about?
The story follows Hank, a dog who ends up in a town populated by cats. When the villainous Ika Chu threatens to destroy the village, Hank is recruited to help defend it and begins training to become a samurai.

The central joke—and the source of much of the film’s conflict—is that Hank is supposed to protect a community whose residents are deeply suspicious of dogs. He must win over the cats, learn from an unwilling mentor, and prove that courage and responsibility matter more than appearances.
Paramount characterizes the movie as a family adventure combining animation, comedy, and action. Its story draws on the broad idea of a lone warrior defending a vulnerable community while giving that premise a canine-and-feline comic twist.

Michael Cera voices Hank. The principal cast includes:

Is the movie suitable for children?
Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank is rated PG and is positioned as a family animated comedy. Its samurai setting includes cartoon action, peril, threats against the village, and repeated comic conflict, so parents may want to consider whether those elements suit younger children. The film’s approximately 97-to-98-minute runtime makes it a relatively manageable choice for a family movie night.
How the Hulu release fits into the movie’s release history
| Window | Timing | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Theatrical release | July 2022 | The film received its North American theatrical run in summer 2022. Published date references differ between July 15 and July 22, likely because they reflect different release-date conventions or schedule references. |
| Paramount+ | August 29, 2022 | Paramount announced U.S. and Canadian streaming availability on Paramount+. |
| DVD and Blu-ray | October 18, 2022 | Separate physical editions were released for viewers who prefer to keep a copy. |
| Hulu | September 29, 2024 | The film was added to Hulu’s U.S. catalog, separate from its earlier Paramount+ streaming window. |
Because the theatrical references do not agree on a single date, “July 2022” is the clearest general description. The discrepancy does not change the important point for Hulu viewers: the film predates its Hulu availability by about two years.
Streaming versus owning the movie
Hulu access is different from owning a copy. A streaming title can leave a service when licensing terms change, and availability may differ by country, subscription plan, or date. Hulu’s own listing is the best source for checking current U.S. access before watching.
For viewers who want a copy beyond the Hulu license window, the Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank Blu-ray is the most straightforward physical-media alternative. A separate DVD edition is also available for households that use a standard DVD player rather than Blu-ray hardware. Retail inventory, format availability, and prices can change, so check the listing carefully before buying. Digital rental and purchase options have also been presented through services including Amazon Video, Apple TV, and Fandango At Home, but those listings should be treated as a current snapshot rather than a permanent availability promise.
Where can you watch Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank?
- Hulu: Hulu currently lists the movie in the U.S. catalog. Plan requirements and catalog access can vary by location.
- Paramount+: Paramount previously announced the film for Paramount+ in the United States and Canada. Current availability should be checked directly before subscribing or searching for the title there.
- Digital stores: Rental or purchase listings have been observed through Amazon Video, Apple TV, and Fandango At Home.
- Physical media: DVD and Blu-ray editions were released in the United States on October 18, 2022.
These options are not interchangeable in every territory. The safest way to confirm access is to search Hulu or the relevant retailer from the country where you intend to watch.
