Why January 13 mattered to Hanako-kun fans
Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun adapts the manga by AidaIro, a supernatural school story centered on Nene Yashiro and Hanako-kun, the ghost associated with one of Kamome Academy’s most famous rumors.

Nene begins by investigating the “Seventh Wonder” said to inhabit the girls’ bathroom. Her encounter with Hanako-kun draws her into a larger world of school mysteries, spirits, curses, friendships, comedy, romance, and darker supernatural drama. That blend is why the series can appeal both to viewers looking for an occult mystery and to fans of character-focused fantasy anime.
Season 2 represented the long-awaited animated continuation for viewers who had discovered the first season and wanted more of Kamome Academy’s supernatural mysteries. The January 13 Hulu date therefore mattered less as a global launch moment than as a practical U.S. catch-up opportunity: Hulu subscribers could look for the subtitled continuation there after the earlier Crunchyroll premiere timing.

Should you start with the anime or the manga?
The official English manga is the clearest starting point for newcomers who want the source material rather than another streaming subscription. Yen Press publishes the English-language edition in paperback and digital formats, and its catalog places the series across comedy, drama, fantasy, horror, romance, and anime-tie-in categories.

If you have never read the manga, Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun manga Volume 1 is the sensible entry point. It introduces Nene, Hanako-kun, and the rules of Kamome Academy’s supernatural world from the beginning. It should be treated as a starting point, not as a volume that picks up immediately after the anime; the exact relationship between an adaptation and particular manga chapters or volumes should not be assumed without a separately verified guide.
Read the source story
Newcomers can start the Hanako-kun manga with Yen Press’s official English Volume 1, available in paperback and digital editions through listed retailers. Starting at Volume 1 is the safest way to experience the story’s introductions and progression without guessing where an anime season leaves off.
A collector-friendly catch-up option
Readers who already know they want the opening run in physical form can look at Toilet-bound Hanako-kun: First Stall. Yen Press describes this box set as collecting the first ten volumes. It is a more substantial purchase than Volume 1, so it makes more sense for collectors or committed fans than for someone still deciding whether the series is for them.

What is happening with the manga?
Readers looking beyond the anime should also know about a later status update. Square Enix’s Monthly GFantasy editorial office announced on October 18, 2025, that the manga would enter a hiatus while AidaIro underwent medical treatment. The notice said a resumption would be announced once a return had been decided.
The official material reviewed for this article does not establish a definitive restart date. Accordingly, it would be inaccurate to describe the manga as definitely publishing on a regular schedule or to promise a specific return date. This update does not change what January 13, 2025 meant for anime viewers, but it matters to anyone treating this as a present-day franchise guide.
