Pip Close is Glenn Close’s Havanese, known online as Sir Pippin of Beanfield. The Instagram account associated with him, @sirpippinofbeanfield, became a small but memorable piece of celebrity-pet culture by presenting Pip as Glenn Close’s “only son,” an international traveler, and a comically self-important observer of human behavior.
The account’s current public status and posting activity could not be independently verified. However, Pip remains publicly associated with Close: the latest reliable evidence located, from May 1, 2026, showed him beside her at the TCM Classic Film Festival hand-and-footprint ceremony at Hollywood’s TCL Chinese Theatre—where reports said his paw was also impressed in cement.
Who is Pip Close?
Pip Close is a Havanese dog whose formal name is Sir Pippin of Beanfield. His dedicated Instagram identity used the handle @sirpippinofbeanfield, and historical coverage described the account as a fictionalized first-person world narrated by Pip himself.
Rather than functioning like a conventional product-focused pet-influencer account, Pip’s profile treated the dog as a comic character. He was portrayed as a worldly, literary, slightly grandiose personality with opinions about travel, family life, art, awards ceremonies, and the people around him.

That framing was especially amusing because Pip’s owner is one of Hollywood’s most serious and accomplished actors. Glenn Close’s public image is associated with demanding dramatic roles, while Pip’s online persona supplied mock-philosophical commentary, elaborate self-importance, and photographs of a small dog sleeping, traveling, posing, and appearing to supervise major events.
The Instagram account associated with @sirpippinofbeanfield
Historical references place the account’s creation in October 2015. It was reportedly inactive for a period before becoming active again in December 2018, around the time Glenn Close launched or began actively using her own public Instagram presence.
Some contemporary coverage inferred that Close herself probably operated Pip’s account, but that has not been confirmed. The careful formulation is that the account was associated with Glenn Close and presented her dog through a first-person character voice—not that Close was definitively its sole operator.
The profile’s appeal came from its unusual tone. Pip’s captions reportedly combined:
- literary, artistic, and cultural references;
- mock-serious observations about human behavior;
- travel updates written as though Pip were a sophisticated international correspondent;
- photographs of sleeping or lounging;
- family and backstage appearances;
- recurring “Pip Quiz” posts; and
- anthropomorphic reactions to domestic events.
In other words, the joke was not simply that a famous actor had a cute dog. It was that the dog had apparently developed an elaborate artistic and intellectual identity of his own.
Why Pip became famous during the 2019 awards season
Pip’s most visible period came during the 2019 awards season, when he moved from social-media curiosity to a recognizable red-carpet companion.
The Santa Barbara International Film Festival
At the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, Pip reportedly ran onto the stage while Glenn Close was accepting the Maltin Modern Master Award and jumped into her lap. The moment neatly captured the contrast at the heart of his celebrity: Close was receiving a major professional honor, while Pip behaved as though the ceremony required his personal intervention.

Close had also shared a video of Pip traveling on her daughter Annie Starke’s lap before the event. His presence therefore extended beyond a single posed photograph: he was part of the public journey surrounding the awards appearance, from travel to the ceremony itself.
Earlier public appearances
Pip had already appeared with Close at other high-profile events. Reported examples include a 2017 Sunset Boulevard curtain call and a 2018 Lincoln Center gala. These appearances helped establish him as a recurring companion rather than a one-time viral novelty.
Pip, Glenn Close, and Cruella de Vil
Pip’s story also gained an amusing extra layer from Glenn Close’s role as Cruella de Vil in the live-action 101 Dalmatians.
One contemporary report quoted Close saying that Pip had watched the film and was “absolutely glued to the screen.” The image of a real-life dog belonging to the actress who played one of cinema’s best-known dog antagonists made an irresistible contrast: Close’s fictional Cruella is famously hostile to Dalmatians, while her real-life public identity includes an affectionate and highly visible Havanese companion.

It is important not to overstate what that image proves. The available reporting supports describing it as a fashion-related shoot or post connected to Stella McCartney. It does not establish that Pip had a formal endorsement contract, that he was a paid brand ambassador, or that the photographs became an official Stella McCartney advertising campaign.
The picture is best understood as another example of Pip’s established comic persona: an elaborately styled small dog appearing to participate in a glamorous celebrity fashion moment.
The 2026 TCL Chinese Theatre appearance
The latest reliable public evidence located during research is dated May 1, 2026. During the 2026 TCM Classic Film Festival in Hollywood, Glenn Close took part in a hand-and-footprint ceremony at the TCL Chinese Theatre.
Multiple reports and image records showed Pip present at the ceremony. Coverage stated that his right paw was also impressed in the cement, giving the celebrity dog a miniature version of the Hollywood honor associated with his owner.
A May 2026 report described Pip as an 11-year-old Havanese and as a regular presence at Close’s red-carpet and public appearances. His exact birth date was not located, so the age is best treated as a reported description rather than an independently calculated figure.
Another report put the Instagram account at approximately 17,000 followers. That is a secondary-source estimate, not a confirmed live Instagram metric. It should not be presented as Pip’s current follower count without checking the profile directly.
Is Pip’s Instagram account still active?
The handle @sirpippinofbeanfield is strongly supported by historical references and by 2026 reporting, but the profile could not be directly opened during the research process. As a result, the following points remain unverified:

The safest current description is therefore: Pip Close became an Instagram personality under the name Sir Pippin of Beanfield, through the account associated with @sirpippinofbeanfield. It is more precise than claiming that the account is definitely active or that Glenn Close definitely runs it today.
What made Pip different from a typical celebrity pet
Pip’s appeal rested on character and writing as much as on his appearance. Many famous pets are presented through simple snapshots or promotional partnerships. Pip’s historical feed instead built a continuing fictional voice around him.
That voice allowed ordinary material—sleeping photographs, family trips, travel on a lap, festive clothing, collars, and appearances at public events—to become part of a larger joke. Pip was not merely present at an awards ceremony; he was a participant with an implied point of view. He was not merely wearing an accessory; he appeared to be making a statement about culture, status, or human folly.
The account also benefited from a productive mismatch between scale and seriousness. A small Havanese could be photographed at an international event, wearing novelty eyewear, sitting with family, or appearing beside a major film star, while the caption treated the occasion as though it belonged in a literary memoir.

Several stronger claims are not supported by the available evidence:
- That Glenn Close definitely operates the account. Historical coverage inferred this, but it was not confirmed.
- That Pip is a paid influencer. The account’s celebrity-pet character is documented, but no formal influencer or sponsorship arrangement was verified.
- That Stella McCartney formally hired or endorsed Pip. The evidence supports a fashion-related photo shoot or post, not a confirmed advertising contract.
- That the account is currently active. The handle is documented, but live profile status was not independently accessible.
- That approximately 17,000 followers is a current confirmed count. That figure came from secondary reporting.
- That Pip has official merchandise, a store, or a published business contact. No reliable evidence of those items was found.
Why Pip Close remains memorable
Pip’s internet fame was never primarily about commercial influence. It came from a carefully sustained comic premise: Glenn Close’s Havanese was presented as Sir Pippin of Beanfield, a worldly canine commentator whose self-image was far grander than his size.

His awards-season appearances made the joke visible in the real world. His connection to Cruella de Vil added a memorable film-history contrast. The Stella McCartney-related photograph supplied a fashion moment without proving a formal brand partnership. And the 2026 TCL Chinese Theatre ceremony showed that Pip continued to appear publicly beside Close, including in the unusual detail of his paw being recorded in cement.
Whether or not the Instagram profile remains active, the character it created is unusually distinctive: part celebrity companion, part fictional social-media narrator, and part tiny Hollywood co-star.
