Yes—but only in the interface sense. Pornhub Shorties adopts the familiar mobile pattern of a full-screen vertical video feed, swipe-based discovery, recommendations, and low-friction engagement controls. That makes the TikTok comparison persuasive as a description of how the product feels to use. It does not prove that Pornhub copied TikTok’s code, recommendation algorithm, or proprietary technology.
The more interesting question is behavioral. Because Shorties turns explicit-video discovery into a continuous stream of clips, it may be compatible with what users call goonscrolling: prolonged, repetitive browsing for sexual novelty. That is a reasonable design inference, not evidence that Shorties causes addiction or that every person who uses it is engaging in problematic behavior.
What Pornhub Shorties actually is
Shorties is a short-form, vertical-video feed within the Pornhub ecosystem. Instead of beginning with a search result, category page, or deliberately selected full-length video, the user is presented with one vertically oriented clip and can move rapidly to the next through swiping or scrolling.

These details were reported by XBIZ, which quoted Pornhub representatives about the product’s vertical feed, recommendation and creator-discovery features. An earlier 2023 report from iXBT described a beta section with an endless vertical feed, likes, comments, and links to longer videos.
There is an important qualification: available reports are not consistent about whether Shorties has a fixed maximum video length. Some describe it primarily as short-form content, while another says creators do not face the same length restrictions found on mainstream short-video services. Unless the current interface is independently checked in a particular market, it is safer to describe Shorties as a vertical, scroll-based discovery feed rather than claim a precise duration limit.
Why the TikTok comparison works
Calling Shorties a TikTok copy is too broad if it implies literal technical copying. It is substantially fairer if it refers to the shared interface grammar and consumption pattern. Four similarities do most of the work.
1. One video fills the screen
Vertical, full-screen presentation is optimized for a phone held in one hand. The user is not choosing among a dense grid of thumbnails or reading a list of search results. The current clip occupies the viewing space, making the next swipe the main navigation action.
2. Discovery continues without a deliberate search
On a conventional video page, a viewer has several natural stopping points: the end of the video, the end of a search session, or the moment when another page must be selected. A continuous feed removes much of that friction. One swipe supplies another item, and another swipe supplies another after that.
3. Engagement signals help shape the feed
Likes, follows, favorites, skips, and viewing behavior can function as feedback about what the user wants to see. The available reporting supports the existence of these controls and recommendations, but it does not establish that Shorties uses TikTok’s algorithm, has equivalent ranking technology, or produces equivalent engagement levels.
4. The feed discovers creators as well as videos
Shorties is not merely a shorter version of Pornhub’s existing library. Features such as More of Me can move a viewer from an individual clip to a creator’s other pages or profiles. That makes the feed a performer-discovery and navigation layer, not just a playback screen.
In short, the “TikTok-like” label is supported by the product’s visible mechanics. The claim that Pornhub copied TikTok’s proprietary systems is not supported by the available evidence.

From beta experiment to reported rollout
Shorties appears to have developed through experimentation rather than arriving as an entirely new idea in 2025:
- August 2023: reporting described Shorties as a beta-stage section with an endless, vertically oriented feed, engagement controls, and links to longer content. iXBT’s report compared its format with the emerging short-video model used by services such as TikTok and YouTube.
- March 2024: a later cultural-research article quoted a Pornhub Help Center reference describing Shorties as an ad-free, scroll-based experience that was still in beta at that point. The Help Center page was not directly retrievable for this research, so that historical description should be attributed to the later source rather than treated as a currently verified help-page statement. - November 2025: XBIZ reported that Pornhub had introduced the scroll-based feed with recommendations and interactive controls.
- November 2025: Storyboard18 reported that the formerly beta feature was live on Pornhub and Pornhub Gay. That report also said a lesbian-focused feed was in development at the time.
By the latest evidence reviewed for this article, dated August 12, 2026, the defensible conclusion is that Shorties had been publicly reported as a live Pornhub product by November 2025. That does not establish that every user sees the same version, that every feature remains unchanged, or that the feed is available in every country.
What “goonscrolling” means—and what it does not mean
Goonscrolling is slang, not a recognized medical diagnosis. User-generated definitions generally use the term for repeatedly scrolling through multiple sites or apps in search of sexually stimulating images or videos, sometimes during prolonged masturbation or edging. A user-generated dictionary can document how slang is used, but it is not a clinical authority; Urban Dictionary’s entry is useful only in that limited sense.
A clearer editorial definition is:
Goonscrolling is prolonged, repetitive browsing through sexually stimulating content, usually driven by novelty, arousal, or continued searching rather than a single planned video.

The term overlaps with gooning, but the emphasis is different. Gooning usually describes a prolonged pornography-and-masturbation session, often involving edging and a zoned-out state. Goonscrolling focuses more specifically on the searching, switching, refreshing, and browsing that can keep such a session going.
A medically reviewed 2026 explainer makes the key distinction: gooning is slang and is not itself a diagnosis. The clinically relevant questions are whether a person feels unable to control the behavior and whether it is causing meaningful problems in everyday life. Duration alone does not establish a disorder, and neither does the use of an adult platform.
Why Shorties may be a good fit for goonscrolling
The strongest case is not that Pornhub invented goonscrolling. People could already search, switch between tabs, browse categories, and move between sites. The case is that Shorties packages those existing behaviors into a particularly efficient interface.
The product combines:
- sexual novelty: each swipe can present a different performer, scene, or style;
- continuous selection: the next clip is available without a new search;
- personalization: likes, follows, favorites, skips, and recommendations can narrow the feed toward a user’s preferences;
- low-friction rejection: an unwanted clip can be dismissed immediately rather than requiring a return to a results page;
- creator pathways: a viewer can move from a clip to related profiles or additional pages; and
- phone-first use: vertical video and touch gestures are built around the device many people carry constantly.
Cultural researchers writing about Shorties argue that this kind of design formalizes an existing practice of searching through pornography and can intensify it through vertical, touch-based navigation. That interpretation is useful for understanding the product, but it is not controlled evidence that Shorties causes compulsive use. The research supports an affordance argument: the interface makes repeated browsing easy. It does not support a clinical or causal conclusion about what the product does to every user.

The creator and platform-economics angle
Shorties also changes how content can be discovered. Traditional pornography platforms are often organized around search terms, categories, studios, performers, and full-length uploads. A recommendation feed places the platform in the role of an active editor—or at least an active selector—of what appears next.
For creators, that may create an additional route from a short clip to a profile, a longer video, or other pages. The More of Me feature is significant for precisely this reason: it encourages creator-level discovery rather than treating every clip as an isolated item.
That does not prove that creators earn more, that Shorties increases subscriptions, or that the platform has achieved a particular engagement uplift. No such performance figures are established by the available sources. The supported conclusion is narrower: Shorties gives creators and the platform another mechanism for turning a brief recommendation into deeper browsing.

Trust, consent, and moderation are part of the story
A recommendation feed is not a neutral interface if the content entering it has not been reliably verified, moderated, and removable. The faster a platform can distribute one clip after another, the more important its systems for age checks, consent verification, reporting, takedown, re-upload prevention, and privacy become.
That concern is especially relevant because, in September 2025, the U.S. Federal Trade Commission and Utah announced action against Aylo, Pornhub’s parent company. The complaint and stipulated order alleged deceptive representations and failures relating to child sexual-abuse material, nonconsensual sexual content, performer age and consent verification, and privacy and information-security practices.
The proposed order included a $15 million penalty, suspended after a $5 million payment to Utah, along with requirements concerning content prevention, adult and consent verification, notice, and information security. The government release also makes clear that the allegations were presented through a complaint and stipulated order and that final-order force depended on court approval. They should therefore be described as allegations and regulatory action, not as a blanket finding that every piece of content on Shorties is illegal or nonconsensual.
Nor does that action specifically establish that Shorties contains illegal material or that the Shorties interface caused the alleged conduct. The accurate connection is one of governance: adding a rapid, recommendation-driven distribution layer makes platform accountability more consequential.

Aylo announced restrictions affecting new users in the United Kingdom beginning February 2, 2026, in the context of age-assurance requirements. The responsible current wording is therefore: Shorties was reported as live on Pornhub and Pornhub Gay, subject to geography, age assurance, product changes, and account or device conditions.

There is no need to label ordinary adult-content use as a disorder simply because it involves a feed. A more useful self-check is whether the behavior is voluntary, controllable, and compatible with the rest of your life.
- Do you open the feed with a defined intention and stop when you choose?
- Do repeated sessions interfere with sleep, work, school, relationships, finances, or responsibilities?
- Have you tried to cut back and repeatedly felt unable to do so?
- Are you spending substantially longer than intended because the next clip is always available?
- Does the behavior continue despite consequences that matter to you?
These questions are not a diagnostic test. They simply move the conversation away from moral panic and toward control and impairment. If use feels out of control or is causing significant distress, a licensed mental-health professional familiar with compulsive sexual behavior can help assess the situation without relying on slang labels.
For people who want to create more stopping points, simple voluntary measures can help: decide on an end time before opening a feed, use built-in device screen-time limits, avoid taking the phone into bed, and stop treating every recommendation as a prompt that requires a response. Those steps are practical boundaries, not proof that Shorties is inherently harmful.
The bottom line on the TikTok and goonscrolling claims
Shorties clearly borrows the dominant short-video interface pattern: vertical full-screen clips, swipe navigation, recommendation loops, engagement signals, and creator discovery. That is enough to justify calling it TikTok-like. It is not enough to claim that Pornhub copied TikTok’s code or algorithm.

The goonscrolling hypothesis is also plausible in a limited sense. A sexually stimulating, personalized, near-continuous feed can make repetitive browsing easier and can reduce the deliberate choices that traditionally ended a viewing session.
