Prime Video’s U.S. January 2025 schedule mixed a large January 1 library refresh with a smaller group of recognizable movies, returning series, and Amazon Originals. The Fall Guy was the month’s best broad-audience pick, while A Quiet Place: Day One, The Social Network, Do the Right Thing, The LEGO Movie, The Rig Season 2, On Call, and You’re Cordially Invited supplied strong alternatives across genres.
Prime Video’s January 2025 lineup in the U.S. was defined by a large January 1 catalog refresh followed by a smaller run of recognizable movies and Amazon Originals. The month’s strongest all-around recommendation was The Fall Guy, while A Quiet Place: Day One, The Social Network, Do the Right Thing, The LEGO Movie, The Rig Season 2, On Call, and You’re Cordially Invited covered horror, drama, family viewing, suspense, crime, and comedy.
This was a historical U.S. guide to titles listed for Prime Video during January 2025. Prime Video catalogs are territory-specific, and a title’s appearance on a January calendar did not guarantee that it remained included with Prime after that month.

New movies on Prime Video in January 2025
January 1: a wide-ranging catalog refresh
The January 1 wave was the month’s biggest single addition. It was not built around one franchise or one genre; instead, it mixed recent theatrical fare, acclaimed dramas, action films, comedies, family titles, and television seasons.

A Quiet Place: Day One — January 1
This franchise entry was the month’s clearest horror recommendation. It brought creature-feature tension and a recognizable theatrical property to the January 1 lineup, making it a good choice for viewers who wanted suspense rather than a conventional comedy or drama.
The Social Network — January 1
The Social Network was the smart, rewatchable drama in the January refresh. Its focus on technology-industry conflict, ambition, and competing versions of a modern business story made it a natural pick for viewers who prefer fast dialogue and contemporary historical drama.
Do the Right Thing — January 1
Spike Lee’s Do the Right Thing gave the lineup an essential-film selection with substantial cultural and dramatic weight. It was better approached as a landmark American film than as casual background viewing: the heat, tensions, and neighborhood conflicts demand attention.
The LEGO Movie — January 1
For family viewing, The LEGO Movie was the most obvious highlighted choice. It also suited animation fans and adults looking for a lighter film. Parents should still check the current Prime Video listing and rating for their children, since age suitability varies by viewer.

Other notable January 1 movie additions
The U.S. January 1 calendar also included a substantial collection of familiar titles. For action and spectacle, the list included Edge of Tomorrow, The Equalizer, The Last Samurai, and xXx, alongside A Quiet Place: Day One. Comedy options included Barbershop, Bridesmaids, Horrible Bosses, Liar Liar, and The LEGO Movie.
Rank #2
- Ultra-speedy streaming: Roku Ultra is 30% faster than any other Roku player, delivering a lightning-fast interface and apps that launch in a snap.
- Cinematic streaming: This TV streaming device brings the movie theater to your living room with spectacular 4K, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision picture alongside immersive Dolby Atmos audio.
- The ultimate Roku remote: The rechargeable Roku Voice Remote Pro offers backlit buttons, hands-free voice controls, and a lost remote finder.
- No more fumbling in the dark: See what you’re pressing with backlit buttons.
- Say goodbye to batteries: Keep your remote powered for months on a single charge.
Viewers looking for drama could choose from American Sniper, Bohemian Rhapsody, Boogie Nights, Captain Phillips, Hotel Rwanda, The Social Network, Unforgiven, and Yentl. The broader January 1 calendar also listed titles such as Autumn in New York and Blink Twice. These are editorial groupings of the listed additions, not claims about Prime Video’s current genre-page organization.
The Fall Guy — January 2
The Fall Guy was January’s most accessible all-around movie recommendation. Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt led this action-comedy, which combined stunt-driven spectacle with a lighter romantic and comic tone. It was a particularly easy choice for a group because it did not require viewers to be committed to horror, prestige drama, or a long-running television series.
If you preferred to own the movie rather than depend on changing streaming availability, the separately sold The Fall Guy 4K UHD was an option. Universal confirmed official 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD editions. That physical release was not included with a Prime Video subscription, and availability, pricing, and sellers could change.
Unstoppable — January 16
Unstoppable was one of two Amazon Original films arriving January 16. It was based on the true story of wrestler Anthony Robles, giving the month an inspirational sports-drama option. The most useful reason to choose it was its real-life underdog premise and focus on athletic determination, rather than its connection to the broader January catalog.
The Calendar Killer — January 16
Arriving on the same day, The Calendar Killer offered a very different kind of original film: an international, German thriller. It was the better January 16 choice for viewers seeking suspense and a change from the month’s American studio comedies and dramas.

- Compact without compromises: Our sleek design won’t block neighboring HDMI ports, so you can switch from streaming to gaming with ease. Plus, it’s designed to stay hidden behind your TV, keeping wires neatly out of sight
You’re Cordially Invited — January 30
The late-month Amazon Original comedy centered on a simple but reliable farce: two families accidentally booked the same wedding venue for the same day, creating a direct conflict between their celebrations. Will Ferrell and Reese Witherspoon starred. It was January’s lightest and most accessible closing pick, especially for viewers wanting a straightforward comedy rather than a thriller or serious drama.
New and returning shows on Prime Video
The Rig Season 2 — January 2
The Rig returned January 2 with the aftermath of a devastating tsunami and new threats affecting the Kinloch Bravo survivors. The series remained a good fit for viewers who liked contained, atmospheric mystery-thrillers and ensemble survival stories.
Recommended Free Tools
Because this was a second season, new viewers had a stronger reason to begin with Season 1 before starting the January episodes. Returning viewers, meanwhile, could continue directly from the earlier story rather than treating Season 2 as a standalone January premiere.
On Call — January 9
On Call premiered January 9 as an Amazon Original police drama. Its central setup followed a rookie and a veteran officer while they patrolled Long Beach, California. That pairing made it the month’s clearest new police-procedural option: the appeal was the contrast between an inexperienced officer learning the work and a more seasoned partner handling the realities of patrol.
The series was worth considering if you wanted a contemporary law-enforcement drama without committing to a returning franchise. This guide does not assume a particular episode count, later renewal status, or critical consensus.
Rank #4

Harlem Season 3 — January 23
Harlem Season 3 arrived January 23, bringing back the comedy-drama ensemble of Camille, Tye, Quinn, and Angie. It was primarily a recommendation for existing viewers. Anyone discovering the show through the January lineup would have been better served by starting with the earlier seasons rather than jumping into the third chapter.
How to Get Away with Murder Seasons 1–6 and Wild Cards Season 1 — January 1
The January 1 television additions included all six seasons of How to Get Away with Murder, making it the month’s most substantial highlighted binge option. The lineup also included Season 1 of Wild Cards. Together, they gave television viewers a choice between a complete six-season run and a newer first-season entry.
January 2025 arrivals by date
- January 1: A Quiet Place: Day One, The Social Network, Do the Right Thing, The LEGO Movie, and the larger catalog wave; How to Get Away with Murder Seasons 1–6 and Wild Cards Season 1 were among the television additions.
- January 2: The Fall Guy and The Rig Season 2.
- January 9: On Call.
- January 16: Unstoppable and The Calendar Killer.
- January 23: Harlem Season 3.
- January 30: You’re Cordially Invited.
What made January 2025 notable?
January was strongest as a mixed catalog-and-originals month, not as a single-franchise event. The January 1 refresh did most of the volume work, adding enough older and established films to support several different viewing moods. The later schedule then supplied a recognizable theatrical movie, two returning or new scripted series, two Amazon Original films, and a new original comedy.
That balance made the month more useful than a list of only new premieres. A viewer could choose an acclaimed older film such as Do the Right Thing, a family title such as The LEGO Movie, a theatrical genre movie such as A Quiet Place: Day One, or a new series such as On Call without leaving the same service.

This article covered the U.S. Prime Video schedule and used past-tense dates because January 2025 has ended. Prime Video licensing differs by territory. For example, a U.S. calendar that included The Fall Guy, Blink Twice, and The Social Network did not match Amazon’s Australian January announcement, which included titles such as Red One, Bad Boys: Ride or Die, and Elevation.

Availability can also change after a title’s original arrival. A film or season listed for January 2025 may later leave the subscription catalog, move to a rental or purchase option, or remain available only in some countries. Check the current Prime Video listing before planning a watch party, and do not treat a historical release calendar as proof that a title was still included with Prime at a later date.
