Paramount announced on August 13, 2024 that Paramount Television Studios would cease operations by the end of that week, with active series and development projects moving to CBS Studios. However, official Paramount materials reviewed in 2026 identify Paramount Television Studios as an operating unit. So this is not an accurate unqualified description of a current company-wide television shutdown.
What actually happened to Paramount Television Studios?
Paramount Television Studios did announce a shutdown—but that announcement was made on August 13, 2024, not as an unqualified current shutdown of all Paramount television operations. Paramount said the studio would cease operations by the end of that week, while its active series and projects in development would move to CBS Studios.
There is an important update to that story: official Paramount materials reviewed for this article in 2026 identify Paramount Television Studios as an operating content unit, list an active programming slate, and name Dana Goldberg as its chair. In other words, the phrase “Paramount TV is shutting down” is now potentially misleading. It describes a major 2024 organizational decision, but it does not establish that Paramount’s television production business is currently disappearing altogether.
The three different things people may mean by “Paramount TV”
“Paramount TV” is not a precise name for one current product. It may refer to any of these separate businesses:

| Name | What it is | What the 2024 news meant |
|---|---|---|
| Paramount Television Studios | A television production and development studio associated with programming made for Paramount and outside platforms. | A studio unit was announced closed in August 2024, with active projects moving to CBS Studios. Current Paramount materials reviewed in 2026 again identify a Paramount Television Studios operating unit. |
| Paramount Network | A linear cable television network. | It is not the same entity as Paramount Television Studios. A studio shutdown headline should not automatically be interpreted as the closure of the cable channel. |
| Paramount+ | Paramount’s streaming service. | It remains an active destination for shows, films, originals, live television, sports, and selected Showtime programming, depending on the plan and market. |
That distinction is the key to understanding the headline. A production studio, a cable network, and a streaming service can share the Paramount name without being interchangeable businesses.
What Paramount announced on August 13, 2024
On August 13, 2024, Paramount announced internally that Paramount Television Studios would cease operations at the end of that week. The decision was presented as part of a broader effort to streamline the company during a period of major change in television and streaming.
The reported rationale focused on the changing television marketplace and the need to restructure—not on a claim that the studio had simply failed or that all of its programming had been canceled. Contemporaneous reporting estimated that roughly 20 to 30 people could be affected by the studio closure, in addition to much broader workforce reductions planned across the company.
Most importantly, the announcement said that existing series and projects in development—including projects made for outside platforms—would transition to CBS Studios. That was an organizational transfer of responsibility. It was not a blanket cancellation order.
Did Paramount cancel all of the studio’s shows?
No. Closing or reorganizing the studio that developed or produced a show does not automatically cancel the show.
Rank #2
Some active series could continue under CBS Studios, while projects in development could be evaluated separately. A show’s future still depends on factors such as:
- whether it had been formally ordered;
- where it was intended to air or stream;
- its production schedule and financing;
- licensing and distribution agreements;
- whether the receiving studio or platform chose to proceed; and
- the terms of any deal with an outside service.
Therefore, the 2024 studio announcement cannot be used by itself to confirm that a particular series was canceled, renewed, delayed, moved, or released. Those questions must be checked title by title.
Why current Paramount pages make the story confusing
Official Paramount materials reviewed in 2026 describe Paramount Television Studios as an active content studio operating across multiple platforms. The listed programming includes titles associated with Paramount and shows made for or distributed through services such as Paramount+, CBS, Prime Video, Apple TV, and Netflix. The same materials identify Dana Goldberg as chair of Paramount Television Studios.

1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsThis does not erase the 2024 announcement. It means readers should be careful about treating the 2024 studio entity and the current use of the Paramount Television Studios name as though the corporate history were simple. The company may have closed one operating iteration, reorganized its responsibilities, and later used the name for an active unit within a changed corporate structure. The available materials establish the dates and current designation, but they do not, by themselves, provide every legal or operational detail of how that transition occurred.
How the Paramount-Skydance merger changed the context
Paramount Global and Skydance completed their merger on August 7, 2025, creating Paramount Skydance Corporation. That merger occurred almost a year after the 2024 Paramount Television Studios shutdown announcement.
Rank #3
Current corporate references therefore come from a post-merger organization. Paramount’s businesses are grouped into areas including Studios, direct-to-consumer operations, and TV Media. Paramount’s first-quarter 2026 materials refer to Paramount Television Studios within the Studios segment and discuss licensing revenue in the combined structure.
This timeline matters. A story written in August 2024 was describing a pre-merger Paramount Global restructuring. A current story must account for the August 2025 merger and the post-merger company’s continued use of the Paramount Television Studios name. Saying simply that “Paramount recently shut down its TV division” removes both the date and the corporate context.

Where can viewers watch Paramount programming?
Paramount+ is one current destination, but it is not the universal home for every Paramount Television Studios title. Paramount+ offers thousands of episodes, films, originals, live television, sports, and selected Showtime content, with availability depending on the plan and market. The pricing information reviewed for this article listed plans starting at $8.99 per month, but subscription prices, plan features, and catalog listings can change and should be checked before signing up.
Paramount-related programming can also appear on CBS and on outside services. Paramount’s current studio information lists programming associated with Prime Video, Apple TV, and Netflix, among others. A show’s connection to Paramount Television Studios therefore does not prove that it is available on Paramount+.
How to check a specific show
- Search for the exact series title rather than “Paramount TV.”
- Check the official listing for the service or network currently carrying it.
- Confirm your country or region, since licensing rights differ by location.
- Check whether the title is available through a subscription, a live-TV plan, a rental, or a purchase.
- Look for its current release status if it was still in development during the 2024 restructuring.
Do not assume that a show transferred to CBS Studios will necessarily premiere on CBS, and do not assume that a Paramount-produced show will stream on Paramount+. Production, ownership, and distribution are related but separate questions.

What the shutdown says about the television business
The 2024 decision reflected a broader industry problem: major media companies were reorganizing how television is financed, produced, licensed, and distributed as streaming growth slowed and profitability became more important. A studio can have active projects and recognizable programming while its parent company still decides that its structure should be consolidated.
That is why the reported explanation matters. Paramount framed the move around marketplace changes and streamlining rather than describing it as a simple verdict on the studio’s creative output. Moving projects to CBS Studios allowed the company to reduce organizational layers while keeping individual projects available for further decisions.
The change also illustrates why “a studio closed” and “the shows disappeared” are not equivalent statements. Television projects are often developed through one corporate label, produced under another, and distributed by a network or streaming service that may be owned by a different part of the same group—or by an outside company altogether.

Paramount did announce the shutdown of a Paramount Television Studios unit on August 13, 2024. The announcement said existing series and development projects would move to CBS Studios, and it did not mean that every associated show was canceled.
But current official Paramount materials reviewed in 2026 identify Paramount Television Studios as an operating unit within the post-merger Paramount Skydance organization. That makes “Paramount TV is shutting down” an incomplete description of the situation—not a reliable current statement that Paramount’s entire television business is ending.

Frequently Asked Questions
Did Paramount cancel all Paramount Television Studios shows?
No. The August 13, 2024 announcement concerned the studio’s operations and said existing series and development projects would move to CBS Studios. Each show’s cancellation, renewal, release, and platform status must be verified separately.
Is Paramount Television Studios the same as Paramount Network or Paramount+?
Paramount Television Studios is a production studio. Paramount Network is a cable channel, and Paramount+ is a streaming service. They are separate businesses, even though they share the Paramount name.
Where can I watch Paramount Television Studios shows?
Paramount+ is one destination, but Paramount programming may also appear on CBS, Prime Video, Apple TV, Netflix, and other platforms. Availability varies by title, licensing agreement, and country.
What did the Paramount-Skydance merger have to do with the studio shutdown?
Paramount Global and Skydance completed their merger on August 7, 2025, creating Paramount Skydance Corporation. Current references to Paramount Television Studios should be understood in that post-merger context.
The Bottom Line
Paramount Television Studios was announced closed on August 13, 2024, with its active projects moving to CBS Studios. That did not cancel every show. After Paramount’s August 7, 2025 merger with Skydance, official 2026 materials again identify Paramount Television Studios as an operating unit. The headline is therefore a dated and potentially confusing shorthand—not proof of a current company-wide television shutdown.
