Honda’s Koraidon is real, rideable and remarkably close to the creature seen in Pokémon Scarlet—but it is not a motorcycle you can buy. Honda built the near-life-size machine as a future-mobility prototype, combining a two-wheel self-balancing system with moving legs, neck, head, eyes and eyelids.

The project is designed to reproduce Koraidon’s “Sprinting Build” while adding something the game never quite provides: the ability to carry a rider in the physical world.

Honda unveiled the Honda Koraidon Project on February 27, 2025, with cooperation from The Pokémon Company. Its first public display, at Honda Welcome Plaza Aoyama in Tokyo from March 7–9, 2025, was stationary because of venue restrictions. Later demonstrations showed that the project had progressed beyond a static sculpture.

What Honda actually built

The machine is best described as a rideable mobility prototype, concept machine or promotional engineering project. “Pokémon Koraidon motorcycle” is understandable shorthand because it rides on two wheels and draws heavily on Honda motorcycle technology, but Honda’s own framing is broader: this is an experiment in future mobility.

  • Streamlined Aerodynamic Design Reduces Wind Noise and Drag
  • Advanced and Lightweight Durable ABS Shell
  • Quick Release Clasp and Strap and Removable Inner Lining Pads
  • Meets or Exceeds FMVSS-218 and DOT Safety Standards

Honda’s stated development requirements included:

  • Approximating Koraidon’s size and weight;
  • Reproducing the Pokémon’s appearance in detail;
  • Moving the limbs, head and neck;
  • Allowing the machine to stand by itself; and
  • Making it rideable.

The result is not simply a conventional motorcycle covered in Pokémon bodywork. Honda says the hands, legs, neck, face, eyes and eyelids are intended to move in relation to speed or motion. Those animated elements are central to the concept: the machine is meant to look like a living, moving creature rather than a themed vehicle.

Why Koraidon—and what “Sprinting Build” means

Koraidon is the form-shifting Legendary Pokémon that players ride in Pokémon Scarlet. In Pokémon Violet, the equivalent ride Pokémon is Miraidon. Honda selected Koraidon’s Sprinting Build, the game’s fast, two-wheeled form, as the design target.

Honda’s February 2025 announcement cites the game character as approximately 2.5 meters tall and 303 kilograms, with Fighting/Dragon typing. Those are Koraidon’s in-game reference figures—not confirmed specifications for Honda’s prototype. They should not be treated as the machine’s certified height, mass or engineering data.

Want to meet Koraidon in its original world?

The closest way to experience the character outside Honda’s prototype is Pokémon Scarlet for Nintendo Switch, the game in which Koraidon serves as the player’s ride Pokémon. Buying the game does not provide access to Honda’s machine or to any Honda ride experience; it is the original fictional source for the creature represented here.

The engineering challenge: balancing like a motorcycle, moving like a Pokémon

The most interesting part of the Honda Koraidon is the combination of two very different engineering problems.

First, Honda says the prototype uses proprietary self-balancing technology so it can remain upright on two wheels. Second, the machine has to communicate Koraidon’s four-limbed identity through moving body parts while accommodating a human rider.

Honda connects the balance system to its Honda Riding Assist research. The company introduced Riding Assist at CES 2017 as technology intended to reduce a rider’s concern about a motorcycle falling over. Honda has also linked the work to self-balancing research developed through its ASIMO humanoid-robot program.

That history matters because Koraidon is not only a styling exercise. The project brings together motorcycle design, simulation, attitude control and robotic movement. The machine must coordinate its balance with rider operation while also controlling visible motion in the legs, neck, face and other components. Honda has not published a complete control architecture, so it is not possible to say precisely how the prototype divides responsibility between sensors, actuators, software and rider input.

From a stationary exhibit to a moving prototype

Honda’s public appearances show an evolving project rather than one single configuration photographed in every setting.

Date Location or event What was shown
March 7–9, 2025 Honda Welcome Plaza Aoyama, Tokyo Initial public exhibit; stationary because of venue restrictions.
August 3, 2025 Suzuka Circuit, during the pre-finale ceremony for the Suzuka 8 Hours Honda identified this as the first public movement of the “Running Build.”
September 26–28, 2025 Honda Collection Hall at Mobility Resort Motegi, during MotoGP weekend Live riding demonstration and a riding experience for eligible participants.
March 27–29, 2026 Tokyo Big Sight, Tokyo Motorcycle Show Display of the project, development-team presentations and a lottery-based ride experience, according to Honda’s project information.

For the Motegi experience, Honda published requirements stating that riders had to be over 100 centimeters tall and able to board and disembark independently. Participation also depended on the event’s ticketing and distribution arrangements. For the Tokyo Motorcycle Show appearance, Honda listed children taller than 100 centimeters as eligible for the ride experience and stated that booking was required; the booking period had already closed on the project page when researched.

These were selected Japanese event appearances, not an open test-ride program. Availability at one event should not be interpreted as a standing invitation to visit a Honda dealer or as evidence that the prototype can be rented or ordered.

Honda Koraidon alongside Toyota Miraidon

The Honda project was inspired in part by Toyota Engineering Society’s Miraidon project. Honda employees from Motorcycle and Power Products Operations and Innovative Research Excellence volunteered to develop a distinctly Honda interpretation after seeing Toyota’s work.

Honda later displayed Koraidon alongside Miraidon at Japan Mobility Show 2025 as part of the Tokyo Future Tour 2035 program. The pairing is more than a Pokémon novelty. It places both machines within a wider Japanese mobility-concept and engineering-storytelling effort, in which familiar fictional vehicles become ways to discuss robotics, balance control, design and future transportation.

Is Honda Koraidon a production motorcycle?

No—not on the evidence currently published by Honda. Honda has not announced a retail model, production schedule, price, dealer network, consumer ordering process or road-homologation status for Koraidon.

It is therefore inaccurate to describe the machine as:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • A production Honda motorcycle;
  • A street-legal Pokémon bike;
  • A vehicle currently available to purchase; or
  • A motorcycle with published range, top speed or battery specifications.

Honda’s public material also does not provide a full bill of materials, powertrain specification, battery capacity, top speed, range or detailed mechanical layout. The prototype may be rideable in a controlled demonstration while still being unsuitable—or uncertified—for public roads. Those are separate standards.

What the photos should—and should not—suggest

Images of Honda Koraidon can make the project look like a finished vehicle, especially when it is photographed carrying a rider. The safer interpretation is that each image records a particular stage or operating configuration of an evolving prototype.

Captions should identify the machine as Honda’s rideable Koraidon mobility prototype, modeled on the Legendary Pokémon from Pokémon Scarlet. When verified, location-specific captions can identify Honda Welcome Plaza Aoyama for the March 2025 stationary exhibit, Suzuka Circuit for the August 3 Running Build debut, Honda Collection Hall at Mobility Resort Motegi for the September 2025 demonstration, or Tokyo Big Sight for the March 2026 Tokyo Motorcycle Show appearance.

Do not assume that every photograph shows the same build, the same moving configuration or the same level of operation. Honda distinguishes the early stationary exhibit, the Running Build, subsequent riding demonstrations and the later ride experience.

What this prototype says about future mobility

Honda Koraidon is valuable less as a possible product preview than as a demonstration of how Honda can combine existing research areas in a memorable form. Self-balancing motorcycles address a practical concern—staying upright. ASIMO-related robotics research contributes a history of dynamic control and human-shaped machine movement. The Koraidon project adds expressive motion and a rider-facing creature design.

That combination creates a difficult design compromise. A machine built to resemble a large Pokémon has to preserve visibility, stability, rider access, mechanical reliability and safe operation. Moving limbs and facial components are visually effective, but they also add actuators, control requirements, weight and potential failure points. Honda has not published enough technical detail to judge how those trade-offs were solved, but the public demonstrations establish that the concept progressed from static display to controlled riding.

Bottom line

Honda really did build a rideable, near-life-size Koraidon-inspired machine. It can balance on two wheels, has been demonstrated in motion and incorporates animated body components intended to echo the Pokémon’s movement. But it remains a Honda future-mobility prototype and event demonstration—not a production motorcycle, not a confirmed road-legal vehicle and not something currently offered for sale.

For fans, the project turns one of Pokémon Scarlet’s most recognizable ideas into a physical engineering experiment. For motorcycle and robotics watchers, its significance lies in the attempt to make self-balancing technology, rider operation and creature-like motion work together in one machine.
