The 2025 Emmys have already aired. The 77th Primetime Emmy Awards took place on September 14, 2025, on CBS. The original cable-free options were Paramount+ Premium with local live CBS, an antenna capable of receiving a local CBS affiliate, and live-TV streaming services that carried CBS in the viewer’s market.
The 2025 Emmys have already aired. The 77th Primetime Emmy Awards took place on Sunday, September 14, 2025, from 8:00–11:00 p.m. ET (5:00–8:00 p.m. PT). The ceremony was broadcast on CBS and made available for live and on-demand streaming through Paramount+.
If you were looking for the original cable-free viewing options, the legitimate choices were Paramount+ Premium with the local live CBS station, an antenna that could receive your local CBS affiliate, or a live-TV streaming service that carried CBS in your market. Availability, prices, trials, and replay access may have changed since the broadcast.
The official streaming option: Paramount+ Premium
Paramount+ was the official streaming destination for the 2025 ceremony. The important detail was the plan level: Paramount+ documentation stated that Premium included the viewer’s local live CBS station, while Essential did not.
#1 Best Overall
- HD streaming made simple: With America’s number 1 TV streaming platform,* exploring popular apps—plus tons of free movies, shows, and live TV—is as easy as it is fun. *Based on hours streamed—Hypothesis Group
- Compact without compromises: The sleek design of Roku Streaming Stick won’t block neighboring HDMI ports, and it even powers from your TV alone, plugging into the back and staying out of sight. No wall outlet, no extra cords, no clutter.
- No more juggling remotes: Power up your TV, adjust the volume, and control your Roku device with one remote. Use your voice to quickly search, play entertainment, and more.
- Shows on the go: Take your TV to-go when traveling—without needing to log into someone else’s device.
- TV, simplified: With setup that only takes minutes, a simple-to-navigate Home Screen, and an uncluttered remote control that does all you need—Roku makes it easier to watch the TV you love.
That meant a viewer who wanted to watch the Emmys live through Paramount+ needed to confirm all of the following:
- They were signing up for the plan that included local live CBS, identified in the 2025 documentation as Premium.
- Paramount+ offered their local CBS station in their market.
- Their device supported the Paramount+ app or website.
- Their internet connection was adequate for live video.
Do not assume that any Paramount+ subscription includes a live CBS feed. The Essential tier was not the equivalent of the local live-TV option. Plan names, prices, features, and local-channel rules can change, so anyone researching a future CBS event should check Paramount+’s current plan details rather than relying on the 2025 terms.
Watch CBS free with an indoor HDTV antenna
Because the Emmys aired on CBS, viewers within range of a local CBS affiliate could potentially watch the broadcast over the air with an antenna. An indoor HDTV antenna can be a useful one-time hardware option if you want local broadcast television without adding a monthly streaming subscription.
Reception is not guaranteed. It depends on your address, distance from the transmitter, terrain, nearby buildings, construction materials, and antenna placement. Check which stations are available at your location before buying. An antenna cannot receive a CBS affiliate that does not reach your home with a usable signal.

- Compact without compromises: Our sleek design won’t block neighboring HDMI ports, so you can switch from streaming to gaming with ease. Plus, it’s designed to stay hidden behind your TV, keeping wires neatly out of sight
For the 2025 broadcast, the practical process was:
- Check local station availability for your address.
- Connect the antenna to the television’s coaxial antenna input.
- Open the TV’s channel settings and run an automatic channel scan.
- Locate the local CBS affiliate in the scanned channel list.
- Place or reposition the antenna if the signal is weak or channels are missing.
This route did not require Paramount+ or a cable subscription, but it also did not provide a universal nationwide solution. Apartment construction, hills, distance, and the location of the CBS transmitter can make a substantial difference.
Use a live-TV streaming service with local CBS
Another cable-free route was a live-TV streaming service carrying the viewer’s local CBS affiliate. This was more like a cable replacement than a single-event subscription and could be useful for viewers who also wanted news, sports, and other live channels.
The key phrase is your local CBS affiliate. A service’s national channel list does not guarantee that it carried CBS in every ZIP code. Before subscribing, use the provider’s local-channel lookup and enter the address or ZIP code where you planned to watch.
For the September 14, 2025 broadcast, viewers also needed to consider that:

- Ultra-speedy streaming: Roku Ultra is 30% faster than any other Roku player, delivering a lightning-fast interface and apps that launch in a snap.
- Cinematic streaming: This TV streaming device brings the movie theater to your living room with spectacular 4K, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision picture alongside immersive Dolby Atmos audio.
- The ultimate Roku remote: The rechargeable Roku Voice Remote Pro offers backlit buttons, hands-free voice controls, and a lost remote finder.
- No more fumbling in the dark: See what you’re pressing with backlit buttons.
- Say goodbye to batteries: Keep your remote powered for months on a single charge.
- Local CBS carriage varied by market and provider.
- Prices and promotional trials were temporary and time-sensitive.
- DVR rules and replay availability differed between services.
- A service might carry CBS in one city but not another.
- Cancellation terms could affect the cost of subscribing for only one event.
Because those details change, it would be misleading to present a 2025 price, free trial, or provider lineup as current. For a future awards ceremony, verify the service’s CBS availability and terms immediately before signing up.
What you may need for the television setup
If your television already has a supported Paramount+ app, you may not need additional hardware. If it does not, a dedicated streaming device can provide access to compatible streaming apps. For example, an Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K is an optional setup device for a compatible television.
The streaming stick is not the broadcast or subscription itself. It does not independently provide the Emmys, CBS, or Paramount+ access. You would still need an eligible Paramount+ plan, a qualifying live-TV service, or an antenna-based local CBS signal. Treat it as a way to run the relevant app on a television, not as a replacement for the service or reception path.
Which cable-free option made the most sense?
| Option | Best for | Main limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Paramount+ Premium | Viewers who wanted the official streaming route and had local live CBS access | The required plan and local CBS availability had to be confirmed |
| Indoor HDTV antenna | Viewers within range of a local CBS affiliate who wanted to avoid a monthly streaming bill | Reception varies by address and antenna placement |
| Live-TV streaming service | Viewers wanting a broader cable replacement | Local CBS carriage, pricing, trials, and DVR policies vary |
| Streaming device | Viewers whose television lacked a convenient supported app | The device does not include CBS or a Paramount+ subscription |
Can you still watch a replay?
The Television Academy announced live and on-demand streaming through Paramount+, but a replay is not necessarily available indefinitely. If you are trying to watch the ceremony after September 14, 2025, check the official Paramount+ or CBS event page for current availability. Do not assume that an on-demand archive remains accessible, and be cautious with unofficial restreams or download sites.
What not to rely on
- A basic Paramount+ plan: The 2025 documentation distinguished Premium, which included local live CBS, from Essential, which did not.
- A free stream promise: Free trials and promotional offers require verification for the specific service, date, and market.
- An antenna guarantee: An antenna works only where a usable local broadcast signal reaches the address.
- A national channel list alone: Confirm local CBS carriage by ZIP code.
- Unofficial restreams or VPN workarounds: Use official broadcast, streaming, or over-the-air options instead.
Quick decision guide
- Want the official online route? Check Paramount+ Premium and confirm that it includes your local live CBS station.
- Want to avoid a monthly subscription? Check whether an antenna can receive your local CBS affiliate.
- Want a general cable replacement? Compare live-TV streaming services, but verify local CBS carriage in your ZIP code.
- Have an older or unsupported TV? Consider a compatible streaming device, remembering that it supplies hardware—not the content entitlement.
- Looking for the ceremony now? Check the official CBS or Paramount+ page for replay availability; it may no longer be hosted.

Possibly. An indoor antenna can receive a local CBS broadcast where a usable signal reaches your address. Reception depends on distance, terrain, buildings, construction, and antenna placement, so check local station availability first.
Can I still watch a replay of the 2025 Emmys?
A replay may or may not remain available. Check the official CBS or Paramount+ event page rather than assuming that the 2025 archive is still online.
