The weekend’s two biggest at-home movie choices go in opposite directions: Disney’s family adventure Moana 2 arrives for digital rental and purchase after a billion-dollar theatrical run, while Prime Video premieres the adult wedding comedy You’re Cordially Invited, starring Will Ferrell and Reese Witherspoon. The January 31–February 2, 2025 lineup also includes Here, Goodrich, Babygirl, and Den of Thieves 2: Pantera.
One important clarification: the “Wedding Wars” shorthand refers to You’re Cordially Invited, not the unrelated 2006 television movie Wedding Wars starring John Stamos and Eric Dane.
Moana 2 is the weekend’s family home-viewing event
Moana 2 is the clearest choice for families looking for a new movie night. Disney’s PG animated action-adventure runs approximately 100 minutes and combines fantasy, musical, and seafaring elements. Auli‘i Cravalho returns as the voice of Moana, with Dwayne Johnson again voicing Maui.
The sequel takes place three years after the original film. After receiving a call from her wayfinding ancestors, Moana sets out into dangerous, long-lost waters with a new crew. Maui joins the voyage, which expands the world of the first film while keeping the story centered on exploration, family, and cultural connection.

Directed by David Derrick Jr., Jason Hand, and Dana Ledoux Miller, Moana 2 opened theatrically on November 27, 2024. By this weekend, it was moving into the next stage of its release: digital rental and purchase through Prime Video and other video-on-demand storefronts. That is different from subscription streaming. Disney did not bring the sequel to Disney+ until March 12, 2025, so Disney+ was not the relevant home-viewing option for the January 31–February 2 weekend.
The movie’s theatrical performance explains why its digital arrival was such a notable release. Box Office Mojo records approximately $1.059 billion worldwide, including about $460.4 million in North America and $598.8 million internationally. Those figures support calling Moana 2 a billion-dollar theatrical hit, while the exact totals should be attributed to Box Office Mojo rather than treated as an independent estimate.
How to watch Moana 2 this weekend
- Format: Digital rental or purchase.
- Rating: PG.
- Runtime: Approximately 100 minutes.
- Best for: Families, younger viewers, Disney fans, and anyone who wants a musical adventure without waiting for a subscription release.
Digital prices and storefront availability change by country and over time, so check the U.S. service listing before renting or buying. The historical weekend release was a transactional video-on-demand launch, not a free inclusion with a regular Disney+ subscription.
For viewers who prefer a permanent copy or expect repeated family viewings, Disney advertised a March 18, 2025 physical release. A Moana 2 Blu-ray is therefore a more durable option than a one-time digital rental, particularly for collectors or households that do not want to depend on changing streaming rights.

Animation enthusiasts may also be interested in The Art of Moana 2. Disney Books describes the 160-page book as a behind-the-scenes look at the production, including development art, storyboards, color scripts, interviews, and other visual material. It is a companion for collectors and animation fans, not a way to watch the film.
You’re Cordially Invited brings the wedding conflict to Prime Video
For adults who want a broad studio comedy rather than a family musical, You’re Cordially Invited is the weekend’s main alternative. The film premiered in the United States on Prime Video on January 30, 2025, putting it directly into the weekend’s streaming conversation.

The setup is an accidental double booking: two weddings are scheduled for the same day at the same venue. Will Ferrell plays the father of one bride, while Reese Witherspoon plays the sister of the other. Instead of calmly solving the logistical problem, the two relatives escalate their rivalry as each tries to protect their family’s celebration.
Directed by Nicholas Stoller and produced by Amazon Studios, the English-language comedy also stars Geraldine Viswanathan, Meredith Hagner, Jimmy Tatro, Leanne Morgan, and Rory Scovel. Prime Video lists the runtime at approximately 1 hour 51 minutes; Rotten Tomatoes lists it at 1 hour 49 minutes, reflecting the small differences that can appear between platform and database listings.

What critics thought
The reception was mixed. At the time of the cited Rotten Tomatoes snapshot, the film had a 49% Tomatometer score from 103 reviews and a 33% audience score from more than 1,000 ratings. Those numbers are time-sensitive and can change as additional reviews and audience ratings are added, but they indicate that the film was not a consensus critical recommendation.

The practical takeaway is straightforward: choose it for the cast, the wedding-disaster premise, and an easy Prime Video comedy night—not because it was receiving uniformly strong reviews. It is rated R, so it is not the family counterpart to Moana 2.

Here
Robert Zemeckis’s Here, starring Tom Hanks and Robin Wright, was identified in the weekend coverage as streaming on Netflix. The drama focuses on one location across a vast span of time, making it a more reflective choice than either Moana 2 or You’re Cordially Invited.
Goodrich
Michael Keaton and Mila Kunis lead Goodrich, a family drama-comedy about a father and adult daughter reconnecting when family responsibilities abruptly change. It was included among the new home-viewing titles reported for the weekend, but the supplied evidence does not establish one definitive U.S. subscription platform or current rental storefront, so it is better treated as a title to search in local listings than assigned a service without verification.

Babygirl
Nicole Kidman stars in Babygirl, an erotic thriller written and directed by Halina Reijn. This is an adult-oriented recommendation and should be kept separate from the family-friendly Moana 2 entry. The film was described in the cited weekend coverage as a home-release title, but its exact U.S. service and rental terms should be checked for the relevant publication date.
Den of Thieves 2: Pantera
For viewers who prefer action and crime, Den of Thieves 2: Pantera was available to rent or buy on Prime Video and other digital video-on-demand services. Gerard Butler returns as Big Nick in the sequel, which shifts the series toward an international heist setup. Because this is a transactional release, availability and pricing may differ from the terms of a Prime Video subscription.

Sing Sing also appeared in broader late-January streaming roundups, but the available evidence does not identify one definitive U.S. service and exact weekend availability strongly enough to make a precise platform claim. Release-status note
This is a historical guide to the weekend of January 31–February 2, 2025. It should not be read as an August 2026 release calendar. In particular, Disney+ availability for Moana 2 began later, on March 12, 2025. Streaming catalogs, digital prices, ratings, and regional rights can all change, so any updated version should add a fresh date stamp and verify each service before publication.
