As the world faces the ever-increasing dangers of climate change, one of the most visible signs of its devastating effects can be found in the Alpine glaciers. Melting at an alarming rate, these glaciers now cover only 70 square kilometers out of what was once a massive expanse of ice. It’s a distressing reality that threatens to change the environmental, social, and economic landscape of the region forever.
In a powerful new documentary, viewers are taken on a journey to witness the unprecedented transformations currently underway in the Alps. The film reveals the permafrost thawing from beneath, rendering steadfast slopes fragile and loose, and the impacts of climate change on the Alpine glaciers. Through inspiring footage and expert insights, the documentary explores the numerous effects of the vanishing glaciers: from water shortages for farmers to dwindling natural snow for winter tourism. But amidst the looming crisis, hope remains as innovative new models of alpine tourism for the future are developed. The third-person narration of the film takes us on a poignant exploration of this fragile ecosystem, serving as a stark reminder that the impacts of climate change are undeniable, indiscriminate, and in need of immediate attention.
