Apple’s first major trailer is built around three ideas: cockpit-level speed, Sonny Hayes’s comeback, and the friction between an experienced driver and a younger generation of racers. It presents the film as a large-scale Formula 1 drama from director Joseph Kosinski, the filmmaker associated with Top Gun: Maverick.

Brad Pitt plays Hayes, a former racing phenom whose career was nearly destroyed by a crash. Years later, he is pulled back toward Formula 1 and asked to help a struggling team. Damson Idris plays the younger driver whose rise creates the film’s central professional and personal tension, while Kerry Condon is also part of the principal cast.
The trailer emphasizes the physical sensation of racing: rapid changes of direction, close competition, team pressure, and the narrow margin between control and disaster. Those sequences establish the movie’s tone, but they should not be treated as evidence of real Formula 1 results or as footage from an actual championship season. Sonny Hayes is a fictional character, and F1 The Movie is a scripted feature rather than a documentary or biography of a real driver.
What is F1 The Movie about?
The story follows Sonny Hayes, a once-promising driver whose career was interrupted by a serious crash. His return to the Formula 1 world places him alongside a younger driver, creating a partnership that is also a rivalry. The setup gives the film two parallel sources of drama: whether Hayes can compete at the highest level again, and whether he can work with a teammate who represents the future of the sport.
Apple describes Hayes as a former racing phenom returning to Formula 1 after his career was nearly ended. Official Formula 1 material has positioned the production as an unusually authentic racing film because of its access to the sport and real racing environments. That production access helps explain why the trailer focuses so heavily on the cars, circuits, garages, and cockpit perspective rather than treating racing as background decoration.

Want to own it? Physical editions of F1 The Movie
The most relevant physical release for home-theater viewers and collectors is F1 The Movie 4K UHD. The film is also available in Blu-ray and DVD formats according to the official movie and home-entertainment materials.
A 4K UHD disc is the sensible choice for viewers with a compatible 4K player and display who want the strongest home presentation. Blu-ray is a more broadly compatible high-definition option, while DVD remains useful for older players but does not offer the same picture detail. Before ordering, check the exact retailer listing for region compatibility, included discs, digital-copy details, packaging, price, and stock. Those details can differ between territories and editions.
The soundtrack: F1 The Album and Hans Zimmer’s score
The film has a separate soundtrack ecosystem for music-focused and collector-oriented fans. The official F1 The Album store lists physical vinyl products, including gold vinyl and a limited-edition red-flag vinyl associated with Hans Zimmer’s original score. Warner Music also lists an official CD edition.

Is F1 The Movie a documentary?
No. It is a fictional, scripted Formula 1 feature centered on Brad Pitt’s character Sonny Hayes. Its use of real racing environments and its effort to capture the sport’s physical detail give it an unusually realistic presentation, but the story is not a documentary and Sonny Hayes is not a real driver whose biography the movie adapts.

Why the trailer mattered
The March 13, 2025 trailer served as the first substantial public introduction to the film’s central promise: a star-led drama filmed at the scale and speed of Formula 1. It presented Brad Pitt not as a real-world competitor but as a fictional veteran trying to reclaim a place in a sport that has moved on without him.
That distinction matters when reading the trailer. Its racing scenes are designed to communicate character, danger, and momentum. They do not predict championship standings, document a real comeback, or establish that the fictional team’s results occurred in Formula 1 competition.
