Prehistoric Planet premieres five new Ice Age episodes, here’s how to watch on Apple TV: all five episodes of Prehistoric Planet: Ice Age are available on Apple TV after their November 26, 2025 premiere. A subscription and a compatible Apple TV app platform are required, but an Apple TV 4K device is optional because supported smart TVs, streaming devices, consoles, phones, tablets, and computers can also provide access.

The series moves from dinosaurs to Pleistocene megafauna, with Tom Hiddleston narrating a five-part production from the BBC Studios Natural History Unit. Here is the practical access information, followed by the episode-by-episode story guide.

Key takeaways

  • Prehistoric Planet: Ice Age is a five-part Apple TV docuseries set in the Pleistocene era, millions of years after the dinosaurs disappeared.
  • All five episodes premiered on November 26, 2025, rather than arriving weekly, according to Apple’s release information and an independent release-day guide.
  • Viewers need an Apple TV subscription and a supported Apple TV app platform, but they do not need an Apple-made television or streaming box.
  • Apple’s U.S. episode page displays seven days free followed by $12.99 per month; subscription prices and promotions can change.
  • Tom Hiddleston narrates the Ice Age chapter, with Jon Favreau and Mike Gunton serving as executive producers.

The series is the next chapter in Apple’s natural-history franchise, produced by the BBC Studios Natural History Unit. Instead of returning to the dinosaur world of the earlier seasons, the five-part documentary moves into the Pleistocene and follows Ice Age megafauna through habitats reshaped by extreme cold, warming, migration, and melting permafrost. Apple’s official series page identifies the season as a five-part docuseries.

To watch Prehistoric Planet: Ice Age, open the Apple TV app on a supported device or visit tv.apple.com, sign in with an Apple Account, subscribe if necessary, and search for the series.

  1. Open Apple TV. Use the Apple TV app on a compatible smart TV, Roku or other supported streaming device, game console, Apple device, phone, tablet, or computer. You can also use the web player at tv.apple.com.

  3. Subscribe if your account does not already have access. Apple’s U.S. page for “The Big Melt” displays a seven-day free trial followed by $12.99 per month. That is a displayed U.S. offer, not a guaranteed worldwide price or permanent promotion, so check the subscription screen before paying.
  4. Search for the series. Select Prehistoric Planet: Ice Age, then choose the season or an episode.

Apple Support explains that the Apple TV app can be installed through the app store on compatible televisions and streaming devices. App availability, subscription methods, and features vary by country and device; Apple’s current device-support instructions are the best place to confirm compatibility for a particular region.

Did all five Ice Age episodes release at once?

Yes. All five episodes were released on November 26, 2025, rather than following a weekly schedule. Apple’s official announcement gave November 26, 2025 as the premiere date, and Live Science’s November 26, 2025 viewing guide reported that the complete five-episode season landed on the same day.

Do you need Apple-made hardware? No; a supported third-party platform can work

Do you need an Apple TV device to watch the series?

No. “Apple TV” can mean Apple’s streaming service and app, or Apple’s dedicated Apple TV hardware. The dedicated box is not a prerequisite for Prehistoric Planet: Ice Age. A viewer who already owns a compatible television, streaming device, game console, phone, tablet, or computer may be able to watch without buying another device.

Which viewing option is right for you?

The simplest and least expensive hardware choice is usually the device you already own if that device supports the Apple TV app. A new streaming box makes sense only when the existing television lacks the app, performs poorly, or needs a more consistent living-room interface.

Option Existing-device requirement Setup Picture and sound considerations Separate hardware cost
Compatible smart TV Television must support the Apple TV app in the viewer’s region Install or open the app, sign in, and subscribe Depends on the television and its supported formats None if the television is already owned
Roku, Fire TV, Google TV, or another supported streaming device Device must support the Apple TV app; availability varies by model and country Install the app, sign in, and subscribe Depends on the device, television, connection, and available formats Purchase required only if the viewer does not already own one
Game console Console must support the Apple TV app Download or open the app, sign in, and subscribe Depends on console, television, and audio setup None if the console is already owned
Computer, phone, or tablet Compatible Apple TV app or web access Sign in through the app or tv.apple.com Screen and speakers are usually smaller than a living-room setup None if the device is already owned
Apple TV 4K Television with an HDMI input Connect the box, sign in, and subscribe Supports 4K and HDR when paired with compatible equipment; the television and program must also support the format Dedicated hardware purchase, plus the Apple TV subscription

Is Apple TV 4K required, and what does it add?

Apple TV 4K is optional hardware for viewers who want a dedicated living-room streaming box or whose television does not support the Apple TV app. Apple’s technical specifications list HDMI 2.1, Wi‐Fi 6, an A15 Bionic chip, and compatibility with HD and UHD televisions with HDMI. The device does not include the Apple TV subscription, so buying the box alone does not unlock the series.

Apple lists a 64GB Wi‐Fi model and a 128GB Wi‐Fi + Ethernet model on its technical-specifications page. Apple TV 4K can support 4K and HDR playback with compatible equipment, but the television, connection, settings, and individual program must also support the relevant format. Apple’s Apple TV 4K specifications provide the hardware details.

What is the Ice Age season about?

Prehistoric Planet: Ice Age leaves the dinosaur-focused setting of the earlier seasons and examines the Pleistocene, an era shaped by repeated periods of intense cold and warming. Apple says the season combines current science with cinematic reconstruction to depict the intelligence and complex social behavior of Pleistocene animals. Apple’s November 6, 2025 launch announcement describes the season’s scientific and visual approach.

Tom Hiddleston narrates the series. Jon Favreau and Mike Gunton are executive producers, and the BBC Studios Natural History Unit produces the documentary. The central story is not simply “animals in snow”: the episodes move through tundra, deserts, expanding grasslands, frozen ground, and warming landscapes as environmental change alters migration routes, food supplies, and survival strategies.
