If you want one clear pick for August 14–16, start with Reacher Season 4 on Prime Video. It is not a Friday premiere—the season launched on Wednesday, August 12—but its three-episode opening makes it the weekend’s strongest new action binge. For a new Friday movie, choose Netflix’s Don’t Say Good Luck. For something warmer and more familiar, Ted Lasso Season 4 continues its weekly Apple TV+ rollout.
Documentary viewers have a more serious Netflix option in A Child of My Own, which arrived August 13. Hulu’s schedule is the broadest sampler, adding Busboys, Violent Ends, and The Wizard of the Kremlin on August 14, followed by several complete reality and documentary-adjacent seasons on August 15.

Reacher Season 4 is the easiest recommendation for viewers who want substantial new action television rather than a single-episode sampler. Prime Video released three episodes before the weekend, giving returning fans and newcomers enough material to settle into the season immediately. The remaining episodes are scheduled weekly, so this is a partial-season binge—not a complete-season drop.
The season adapts Lee Child’s Gone Tomorrow, the 13th novel in the Jack Reacher book series. The story begins when Jack Reacher encounters a distressed stranger on a subway, an apparently brief incident that draws him into a dangerous conspiracy. That setup makes the season a particularly natural choice for viewers who like investigations that expand from an ordinary encounter into a larger threat.
Prime Video lists the series as available in more than 240 countries and territories, but the exact catalog and episode timing still depend on location. In the United States, Prime Video is included as a benefit of Amazon Prime; no current membership price is included here because pricing can change.
Choose it if: you want the weekend’s biggest action-forward option, already follow the franchise, or prefer several episodes to watch at once. Skip it for now if: you only want a completed season or do not want to begin a weekly release.

2. Don’t Say Good Luck is Netflix’s main new Friday movie
Where to watch: Netflix
Release date: Friday, August 14, 2026.
Don’t Say Good Luck is the weekend’s clearest new movie premiere. Julia Hart directs this coming-of-age dramatic comedy, which stars Sunny Sandler as Sophie Birenbaum, a high-school student preparing to lead her school musical while escalating problems at home complicate the performance and everything around it.
The cast also includes Melanie Lynskey, Max Greenfield, Jack Champion, Stephanie Beatriz, Scarlett Estevez, Jon Lovitz, Bebe Neuwirth, and Steve Buscemi. The combination of school-performance pressure and family conflict makes the film better described as a coming-of-age dramedy than as a broad comedy or a guaranteed all-ages family film.
Netflix’s rating and maturity information should be checked in the app before planning it as family viewing. The available release information establishes the premise and cast, but it does not justify promising a particular tone beyond the announced dramatic-comedy and coming-of-age framing.

Choose it if: you want a single new movie, a youth-focused story, or a lighter alternative to the weekend’s thrillers. It is the most direct choice for a Friday-night premiere.
3. Ted Lasso Season 4 is the best ongoing weekly series
Where to watch: Apple TV+
Release status: The 10-episode season premiered August 5, 2026, and releases weekly on Wednesdays through October 7.
Ted Lasso Season 4 is not a new August 14 premiere, but it is a strong weekend continuation for viewers who want a warm ensemble comedy-drama. The new season returns Ted to Richmond, where he takes on the challenge of coaching a second-division women’s football team.
Because Apple TV+ is releasing the season weekly, the full 10 episodes will not be available during this weekend. The latest installment from the Wednesday rollout should be available in the August 14–16 window, subject to local release timing and the episode listing shown in your Apple TV interface.

Other Apple TV+ viewing: Women in Blue Season 2
Apple TV+ also lists Women in Blue Season 2, presented in the service listing as Las Azules, as an August 12 release. That makes it directly relevant to this weekend, but the available release information does not establish whether Apple dropped the entire season or only an initial episode.
Check the episode count and cadence in the Apple TV app before treating it as a binge. The safest description is a new Season 2 release, not a full-season premiere. Apple’s later August schedule also lists The Dynasty: UConn Huskies for August 21 and Dark Matter Season 2 for August 28; neither is part of the August 14–16 watch window.
Hulu’s August 14 film additions are worth sampling carefully
Hulu’s official August schedule lists four relevant film additions for Friday, August 14: Busboys (2026), Violent Ends, The Wizard of the Kremlin, and The X-Files: I Want to Believe.

Busboys
Busboys is the best Hulu suggestion if your priority is simply a fresh film addition. Hulu confirms the August 14 date, but the available schedule does not provide a full synopsis, genre classification, cast list, or critical context. Treat it as a discovery pick rather than a quality verdict, and open Hulu’s current title page for the synopsis and availability before deciding.
Violent Ends and The Wizard of the Kremlin
These are additional August 14 film options that may appeal to viewers looking for something more adult-oriented than a family-adjacent coming-of-age movie. However, the available official schedule does not supply enough plot detail to characterize either film responsibly. They belong on a “browse Hulu’s new arrivals” list, not in a confident recommendation based on story or reviews.
The X-Files: I Want to Believe
The X-Files: I Want to Believe is also listed among Hulu’s August 14 additions. It gives science-fiction and paranormal fans another feature-length option, although its inclusion on the schedule should not be confused with a new 2026 premiere.
Hulu’s August 15 complete-season additions
If you would rather start a longer reality or unscripted run than watch a new scripted movie, Hulu lists these complete-season additions for Saturday, August 15:
- Bakers vs. Fakers: Complete Season 2
- Evil Lives Here: Complete Seasons 10 and 19
- Expedition X: Complete Seasons 8–9
- Say Yes to the Dress: Complete Season 18
These releases serve different viewing moods. Evil Lives Here is the clearest true-crime choice, Expedition X suits paranormal and unexplained-mystery viewers, and Say Yes to the Dress is the lifestyle option. Bakers vs. Fakers is the competition-food pick. They are useful if you want complete-season availability, but they are not substitutes for a new prestige scripted series.
The best documentary and nonfiction choices
A Child of My Own on Netflix
Netflix’s A Child of My Own arrived Thursday, August 13, and is the strongest documentary recommendation in this weekend’s lineup. Directed by Maite Alberdi, it follows a woman whose fabricated pregnancy develops into a prolonged and consequential deception.
This is a serious documentary-drama option rather than light weekend viewing. Its subject matter makes it a better fit for viewers seeking a challenging real-world story than for households looking for an easy background watch. It also gives DocumentaryTube readers a nonfiction choice amid a weekend dominated by scripted series and feature films.
MLB Field of Dreams 2026
Netflix also streamed MLB Field of Dreams 2026 live on Thursday, August 13. The event featured the Minnesota Twins and Philadelphia Phillies at the Field of Dreams site in Dyersville, Iowa. It is technically outside the Friday–Sunday premiere window, but sports viewers planning a catch-up weekend may still want to look for the event or any available replay in Netflix’s current interface.

- Want comfort television? Continue Ted Lasso Season 4, keeping in mind that Apple TV+ is releasing it one episode at a time.

A simple setup for a multi-service streaming weekend
If you plan to move between Netflix, Hulu, Prime Video, and Apple TV+ on a television, a streaming device can consolidate those apps when your television’s built-in software is outdated or missing one of the services. Before buying anything, check whether your TV already supports the apps, whether the device has an available HDMI connection, and whether it supports the picture and sound formats you use.
A streaming device does not include every subscription, remove regional restrictions, or fix an internet-provider outage. It is a convenience and compatibility solution, not a guarantee against buffering. For most viewers, checking the TV’s app support and home Wi-Fi position should come before replacing hardware.
What is actually new this weekend?
The dates matter because several of the strongest choices arrived before Friday:

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Reacher Season 4 a Friday, August 14 premiere?
No. Prime Video premiered the first three episodes on Wednesday, August 12, 2026. New episodes then continue weekly through September 16, so it is the weekend’s strongest new binge but not a Friday launch.
Which weekend pick is a documentary?
A Child of My Own on Netflix is the main documentary choice. Directed by Maite Alberdi, it examines a fabricated pregnancy that develops into a prolonged and consequential deception.
Is the full Ted Lasso Season 4 available?
No. Apple TV+ is releasing the 10-episode season weekly. It premiered August 5 and continues on Wednesdays through October 7, so only the episodes released so far should be available during August 14–16.
Can I assume Hulu’s August 14 films are highly recommended?
No. Hulu’s schedule confirms the additions, but the available information does not provide enough synopsis, review, cast, or audience data to make reliable quality claims about Busboys, Violent Ends, or The Wizard of the Kremlin. Check Hulu’s current title pages before choosing.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Watch Reacher Season 4 for the weekend’s best action binge, choose Don’t Say Good Luck for the clearest new Friday movie, and continue Ted Lasso Season 4 if you want a warm weekly series. Documentary viewers should make A Child of My Own the priority, while Hulu is best approached as a broad sampler of new films and complete unscripted seasons. All dates and availability are U.S.-focused and should be checked in each service’s current app.
