Rogers Xfinity App TV is a Canadian, app-only television bundle for Rogers Internet customers. It combines live and on-demand television, free ad-supported streaming television (FAST) channels and Netflix Standard with ads. Rogers currently advertises the base tier at $25 per month when added to a Rogers Internet plan, or $40 per month with StreamSaver, although price, eligibility and channel availability can vary by address and promotion.

The key trade-off is straightforward: App TV is simpler and does not require Rogers equipment, but it does not provide some traditional-TV features such as Cloud PVR or Download & Go.

What Rogers App TV is

Rogers launched App TV on January 29, 2025, presenting it as an app-only bundle that brought live television and streaming subscriptions together in one plan. The launch description listed more than 40 live and on-demand channels, 20 FAST channels and Netflix Standard with ads.

Rogers now markets the standalone App TV tier with 70+ channels, live and on-demand programming, FAST channels and Netflix Standard with ads. The difference between the original launch description and the current advertised channel count is a reminder that the lineup is not fixed. Channels and providers can change, and Rogers says channels may be removed or become unavailable after content-provider updates.

#1 Best Overall
TotalMount Cinema Grade – Gold-Plated HDMI Cable for Apple TV (10 Feet)
  • UNLEASH THE FULL POTENTIAL OF YOUR APPLE TV – New Apple TV models have amazing capabilities including true-to-life picture and sound, High Frame Rate HDR for smooth fast-action sports, and Apple Arcade. However, a cheap HDMI cable will prevent the fast dataflow needed from your Apple TV to your television, resulting in a subpar viewing experience.
  • IMPORTANCE OF DATAFLOW – Connecting a cheap HDMI cable to your Apple TV is like connecting a regular garden hose to a high-performance fire engine. Some water would exit the garden hose, but the capabilities of the high-performance fire engine would be severely limited. On the other hand, using a high-performance fire hose would enable the fire engine to spray far more water (just like a high-performance HDMI cable enables Apple TV to send far more data to your television).
  • UP TO 2.6 TIMES FASTER – Apple TV is capable of sending huge dataflow to your television for a powerful viewing experience, but a cheap HDMI cable restricts the dataflow. In contrast, the TotalMount Cinema Grade HDMI cable enables up to 2.6 times faster dataflow than HDMI 2.0 cables.
  • COMPATIBILITY – Compatible with all Apple TV generations. (This Cinema Grade cable meets or exceeds all HDMI 2.1 standards.)
  • PERFORMANCE NOTE – Unlocking the full potential of your Apple TV requires not only a premium HDMI cable but also a strong internet connection and a high-resolution media source.

In practical terms, App TV is Rogers’ attempt to make live television work more like a streaming service: sign in to an app, choose a channel or on-demand program, and watch without a required cable-style set-top box.

Current App TV pricing and tiers

Plan Advertised price What it includes
App TV $25 per month 70+ channels, live and on-demand programming, FAST channels and Netflix Standard with ads
App TV with StreamSaver $40 per month App TV contents plus Netflix Standard with ads, Disney+ Standard with ads and Apple TV

These are Rogers’ current advertised prices for customers adding the service to Rogers Internet. They should not be treated as universal or permanent rates. Your address, Rogers Internet package, taxes, promotions, account status and the offer shown during ordering may affect the final cost.

The $40 StreamSaver option should also be read carefully. In this bundle, “Apple TV” refers to the Apple TV subscription, while an Apple TV streaming device is separate hardware. Netflix and Apple TV accounts can be linked to retain account information. Disney+ billing treatment can depend on the customer’s existing Disney+ plan.

What channels and programming are included?

Rogers’ examples of current or featured channels include:

The launch materials also named Magnolia Network, Investigation Discovery, Super Channel and other specialty channels. The precise lineup is more important than any promotional example, so check the channel list available for your address before subscribing.

FAST channels are not the same as every App TV channel

App TV uses two different kinds of “ad-supported” content:

  • Netflix Standard with ads is a paid Netflix subscription tier included in the bundle. It is not the ad-free Netflix plan.
  • FAST channels are free ad-supported streaming television channels. Rogers’ launch examples included Xumo Free Movies, Unsolved Mysteries, Property Brothers and Forensic Files.

That means it would be inaccurate to describe every App TV channel as a FAST channel or to imply that the included Netflix subscription is ad-free. App TV combines conventional linear television, on-demand programming, FAST channels and an ad-supported Netflix tier.

Who can subscribe?

App TV is a Canadian Rogers service, not a general streaming subscription available in the United States or to Canadian households using another internet provider. Rogers Internet is required. It is added to an eligible Rogers Internet plan rather than purchased as a completely independent subscription.

Availability is also not necessarily identical for every Rogers customer. Rogers’ ordering flow may apply address-specific eligibility, account requirements, taxes and promotional conditions. Confirm the offer shown for your service address before relying on the advertised monthly price or channel count.

How to watch Rogers App TV

  1. Subscribe to an eligible App TV offer through Rogers.
  2. Download the Rogers Xfinity Stream app on a supported device, or open the supported web experience.
  3. Sign in with your MyRogers username and password.
  4. Choose a live channel or available on-demand program.

Rogers says no equipment is required. Supported viewing methods include mobile devices, compatible web browsers, casting with Chromecast or AirPlay, and supported Amazon Fire TV devices. The Stream app can also let a mobile device function as a remote when streaming or casting to a compatible television.

Rogers’ documentation specifies Fire OS 6 or later for Fire TV access. It lists Apple TV support beginning with tvOS 15, including Apple TV HD and Apple TV 4K models that meet the software requirements. Device and operating-system support can change, so check Rogers’ current compatibility information before buying hardware.

Optional hardware for a television without a suitable built-in app

If your television does not support the Rogers Xfinity Stream app, an external streaming device may be useful. An Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K is one possible route because Rogers documents Fire TV support, provided the device meets the required Fire OS version. It is optional hardware—not part of the App TV subscription—and buying it does not expand the channel lineup or add Rogers features.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Apple TV is another supported platform when the Apple TV device meets Rogers’ stated tvOS requirements. Do not confuse that device with the Apple TV subscription included in the StreamSaver bundle. App TV itself does not require either device.

How many people can watch at once?

Rogers states that App TV supports:

  • Up to two simultaneous in-home streams through the Rogers Xfinity Stream app.
  • Up to two simultaneous out-of-home streams.
  • A combined in-home and out-of-home maximum of five streams.

These limits apply to App TV viewing through the app. Rogers notes that the limits do not apply in the same way to a Rogers Xfinity Entertainment Box, but an entertainment box is not required for the current app-only offer.

Is the Rogers Xfinity Stream Box included?

No. The Rogers Xfinity Stream Box is an optional enhancement, not a requirement for App TV.

Rogers’ original launch announcement described an optional Stream Box with a voice remote. The box is designed to bring live television and movies together in a more conventional television interface, reducing the need to move between apps. The current App TV offer, however, emphasizes “no equipment required.”

Therefore, customers should distinguish between:

  • App TV: the app-only subscription that can be watched on supported devices without a Rogers box.
  • Rogers Xfinity Stream Box: optional hardware intended to provide an enhanced living-room experience.

App TV versus traditional Rogers Xfinity TV

Feature Rogers Xfinity App TV Traditional Rogers Xfinity TV
Primary experience App-based live and on-demand viewing Fuller television service, commonly centered on a set-top-box experience as well as app access
Required equipment No equipment required May include or support Rogers television equipment, depending on the plan
Cloud PVR Not included Available as part of the broader Xfinity TV feature set
Download & Go Not available for App TV Supported by the Rogers Xfinity TV app
Best fit People who prefer streaming-style access and do not need recording features Households that want recording, broader set-top-box functionality or a more traditional TV experience

This is a feature comparison rather than a claim that one service is universally better. App TV is the more focused option if your priority is live television without mandatory equipment. Traditional Rogers Xfinity TV is the stronger fit if Cloud PVR, recording and related television features matter.

There is another important limitation: Netflix, YouTube and other external apps are not available inside the Rogers Xfinity Stream app itself. You may access those services through the relevant app on a compatible platform or device, but App TV does not turn the Rogers app into a universal container for every streaming service.

App TV versus Rogers Streaming

Rogers also describes a separate product called Rogers Streaming. It should not be treated as another name for App TV.

Rogers Streaming is primarily a platform for integrating third-party streaming apps and has been described as an add-on for most Rogers Xfinity Internet packages. Rogers’ support information indicated that it was being offered to a limited group of customers at the time of the relevant page update.

App TV, by contrast, is a defined television bundle: Rogers channels, on-demand programming, FAST channels and Netflix Standard with ads. The two services may sit within the same broader Rogers ecosystem, but their purpose and availability are different.

Advantages and limitations

Why App TV may make sense

  • No required set-top box: You can begin with the Rogers Xfinity Stream app and supported devices.
  • Live TV and streaming in one subscription: The bundle combines conventional channels with on-demand and FAST programming.
  • Netflix is integrated into the bill: The base offer includes Netflix Standard with ads, rather than requiring a separate Netflix purchase.
  • Flexible viewing: Mobile, browser, casting and supported living-room devices are available options.
  • Potentially simpler for streaming-first households: You do not need a PVR or traditional television box if those features are not important to you.

What to check before subscribing

  • Rogers Internet is mandatory. App TV is not an independent service for customers using another ISP.
  • The Netflix plan includes ads. Upgrading to a higher Netflix tier costs the difference and remains subject to Netflix’s applicable terms.
  • No Cloud PVR or Download & Go. App TV is not a substitute for every feature in traditional Rogers Xfinity TV.
  • The channel lineup can change. Provider agreements and other updates can remove channels.
  • Device compatibility matters. Fire TV requires Fire OS 6 or later in Rogers’ documentation, and Apple TV support begins at tvOS 15 in the cited documentation.
  • Streaming limits apply. Check the two-in-home, two-out-of-home and five-combined-stream limits when planning for a large household.
  • No independent performance claim is implied. Internet quality, Wi-Fi conditions, device performance and app updates can affect an individual viewing experience.

Bottom line: who should choose App TV?

Rogers Xfinity App TV is best understood as a streaming-first live-TV bundle, not as a complete replacement for every traditional cable feature. It is a reasonable fit for a Rogers Internet customer who wants live channels, on-demand programming, FAST content and Netflix in one bill, and who is comfortable watching through an app.
