Jay Kay’s garage is not a fixed, publicly inventoried museum. It is a changing collection built around rare Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Porsches, McLarens, BMWs, American muscle cars, luxury vehicles and motorcycles. Published counts range from 37 vehicles, including motorcycles, to approximately 68 cars at a different point in time; other reporting says Jay Kay has owned more than 100 vehicles over the course of his collecting life.
That changing history matters. Many of the most famous cars associated with the Jamiroquai singer—including a signal-green Ferrari LaFerrari, a one-off Ferrari 330 GT Vignale Shooting Brake and a Porsche 911 Carrera RS Lightweight—were subsequently offered for sale. The most accurate way to describe the collection is therefore through documented ownership and provenance, not a definitive claim about what remains in the garage today.
Who is Jay Kay?
Jay Kay is the stage name of Jason Luís Cheetham, the lead singer of the British acid-jazz and funk band Jamiroquai. His interest in cars became part of his public identity through repeated appearances on British motoring television and through auction houses offering vehicles from his personal collection.
For Jay Kay, cars have also been part of Jamiroquai’s visual language. The band’s music videos placed unusual performance cars in front of a worldwide audience, while the Ferrari Enzo became linked to the song Black Devil Car. His garage is consequently interesting for two reasons: it contains genuinely significant collector cars, and several of those cars became part of popular music culture.

How many cars has Jay Kay owned?
There is no reliable public figure for the number of cars Jay Kay owns now. The collection has been bought, driven, displayed and sold over many years, and different published counts appear to use different dates and definitions.
| Published figure | What it appears to represent | Why it should not be treated as a current total |
|---|---|---|
| Approximately 68 cars | A figure Jay Kay gave in a Top Gear interview connected with the Ferrari 330 GT Vignale Shooting Brake | It describes the collection at that point, not an always-current inventory |
| 37 vehicles, including motorcycles | A later account of a 2010 Top Gear statement | It uses a different date and counting method |
| More than 100 cars over the years | A cumulative ownership figure reported in automotive coverage | It refers to vehicles owned during a collecting career, including cars later sold |
The figures are not necessarily contradictory. A collector can have 37 vehicles at one time, approximately 68 at another and still have owned more than 100 in total. Some counts may also include motorcycles or so-called staff cars. The defensible summary is that Jay Kay has owned dozens of vehicles and, by some published accounts, more than 100 over the years.
The Ferrari centerpiece
Ferrari provides the clearest view of Jay Kay’s taste: extremely valuable cars, but often in colors or specifications that make them more distinctive than a standard example.
1965 Ferrari 330 GT Vignale Shooting Brake
The 1965 Ferrari 330 GT Vignale Shooting Brake is arguably the most revealing car in the collection. It is a one-off Ferrari estate designed by Vignale, and Jay Kay reportedly bought it after seeing the car at Goodwood. He valued its rarity and unusual shape rather than treating it simply as another high-value Ferrari.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteIn the Top Gear interview associated with the car, Jay Kay described it as the final car designed by Vignale and said he had driven it regularly. He added approximately 600 miles during his first year of ownership—an important detail because it shows that at least some of his collection was used rather than merely stored.
The car later went to auction with a reported estimate of approximately £200,000–£260,000. That sale establishes that the Shooting Brake was formerly part of Jay Kay’s collection. It does not support saying that he still owns it.
Ferrari Enzo: the Black Devil Car
Jay Kay’s black Ferrari Enzo is one of the cars most closely tied to his musical identity. Coverage describes it as ordered in black with an unusual green interior, a combination that gave the car a visual character beyond its already extraordinary specification.
The Enzo became associated with Jamiroquai’s song Black Devil Car. That connection turned a very rare Ferrari into a piece of band mythology: the car was not just an expensive possession but part of the imagery surrounding the music.

A 2025 report said the Enzo had been sold for approximately £3.5 million, after Jay Kay reportedly bought it for around £400,000 in 2003. That reported sale price is not supported here by a directly accessible official auction result or catalog, so it should be treated as reported rather than independently verified. It is also not evidence of a guaranteed investment return; ownership costs, timing, condition and sale terms are not established by the available material.

Signal-green Ferrari LaFerrari
Jay Kay’s signal-green LaFerrari was displayed at the 2014 Goodwood Festival of Speed. Reports described it as the only LaFerrari in that color at the event; some coverage used broader wording about it being the only example finished in that shade. The safe claim is tied to the event and the reported color description. It should not be expanded into a claim that the car was the only green LaFerrari in the world.
The LaFerrari was sold after Jay Kay parted with it in April 2019. Later RM Sotheby’s catalog material recorded that he had used it sparingly and that the service history showed just over 3,000 kilometers by the time he sold it. The combination of unusual factory color, public visibility, limited use and eventual sale makes it a textbook example of the Jay Kay collection’s pattern: highly special cars could be driven, but not necessarily driven heavily.

The music video for Jamiroquai’s Cosmic Girl remains one of the best-known automotive appearances connected with Jay Kay. In the chase sequence, Jay Kay drives a purple Lamborghini Diablo SE30 while a Ferrari F40 and Ferrari F355 also appear.
Automotive coverage identifies these cars as associated with Jay Kay’s collection, but the ownership history of every vehicle used in the filming should not be stated as an absolute. What is clear is the cultural effect: the video presented rare supercars as active characters in the band’s world rather than as background status symbols.
The Lamborghini that became a music-video icon
Purple Lamborghini Diablo SE30
The purple Lamborghini Diablo SE30, with its blue suede interior, is among the most recognizable cars linked to Jay Kay. Its appearance in Cosmic Girl gave it a much larger audience than a conventional collector-car feature could have provided.
The SE30 was not merely a brightly colored Diablo. It was a limited-production, performance-focused derivative created to celebrate Lamborghini’s 30th anniversary, with a more competition-minded character than an ordinary Diablo. That distinction is important: the car’s historical significance comes from its model and specification as well as its celebrity association.
There is no primary vehicle record in the available material establishing a precise purchase date or confirming that Jay Kay still owns the car. It is best described as a notable Lamborghini that appeared in his collection and in the Cosmic Girl video.
The unusual cars that say more than the headline supercars
Jay Kay’s first car: the 1972 BMW 1602
The most personal car in the story may be the least exotic. The 1972 BMW 1602 was reportedly Jay Kay’s first car and the vehicle in which he learned to drive. It was offered for sale in 2020.
Contemporary coverage emphasized that the BMW mattered because of its connection to the beginning of his driving life, not because it was presented as a flawless concours restoration. Compared with the immaculate Ferraris and limited-production supercars associated with his name, the older BMW showed a more sentimental and human side of the collection.

Its reported sale also reinforces the central ownership caveat. Even a car with strong personal meaning could eventually leave the garage.

The Shooting Brake deserves a second mention because it represents the kind of choice that separates Jay Kay’s collection from a simple list of the most expensive cars. A standard Ferrari grand tourer would already be significant; a one-off estate-bodied Ferrari is a story, a design artifact and a usable oddity at the same time.
Jay Kay’s reported mileage during his first year also complicates the stereotype of the celebrity collector who buys cars only to display them. The evidence suggests a mixture of use patterns: some vehicles were exercised, while others accumulated very little mileage.
Beyond Ferrari and Lamborghini: the wider garage
A seven-vehicle collection sale announced by Silverstone Auctions for the 2018 NEC Classic Motor Show illustrated the breadth of Jay Kay’s interests. The offering included modern supercar engineering, a rare 1990s grand tourer, a contemporary Porsche and an American V8 rather than a lineup made entirely of Italian exotics.
| Vehicle | Documented detail | What it reveals about the collection |
|---|---|---|
| 2016 McLaren 675LT | One of 500 built; more than £50,000 in McLaren Special Operations options; estimated at £230,000–£280,000 for the 2018 sale | Interest in modern, limited-production engineering and bespoke specification |
| 1996 BMW 850 CSi | Manual gearbox, 12,777 recorded miles and described as one of 138 UK-supplied cars; estimated at £80,000–£100,000 | Appreciation for technically distinctive grand tourers, not only supercars |
| 2015 Porsche 911 Targa 4S | 991-generation car with approximately 11,600 miles, finished in Night Blue Metallic with a black interior | A modern car that could be used regularly alongside much rarer classics |
| Ford Mustang 390GT | Associated with the Bullitt tradition | American muscle broadened the collection beyond European performance cars |
The BMW 850 CSi is particularly telling. It is a sophisticated, low-volume grand tourer with a manual transmission—exactly the type of car that appeals to someone interested in how a car feels and functions, rather than only in its badge value.

Bonhams’ 2019 catalog listed a 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7-Litre Lightweight Coupé as offered from Jay Kay’s collection. The lightweight version is one of the most collectible road-going Porsches of its era, with production limited to approximately 200 examples.
Its importance rests on the car itself: low weight, motorsport influence and scarcity. Jay Kay’s provenance adds a compelling ownership chapter, but provenance from a celebrity collection is not the same as proof that the celebrity retains the vehicle. The documented event here is its offering from the collection.
Porsche Carrera GT and Ferrari F12tdf
Other reporting from the same period named a 2004 Porsche Carrera GT and a 2016 Ferrari F12tdf among the cars put up for auction. Both fit the broader pattern of the garage: one is a famously demanding analog-era V10 supercar, while the other is a front-engined Ferrari built around extreme performance and track-focused intent.
As with the Carrera RS, the available evidence establishes their association with Jay Kay’s sales activity. It does not establish present ownership.

Range Rover and motorcycles
The collection was not limited to low-slung sports cars. Coverage identifies a Range Rover 4.5 SE modified by Kingsley, along with motorcycles including a 2003 Suzuki GSX-R600 and a 1989 Kawasaki Z1000 replica.
These vehicles help explain why published totals can vary. Some accounts count motorcycles alongside cars, while others may focus only on four-wheeled vehicles or separate practical and so-called staff cars from the main collection.
Auction chronology: why the garage keeps changing
The public record is easier to follow as a sequence of sales than as a current inventory.
- 2018: Silverstone Auctions announced seven vehicles from Jay Kay’s collection for the NEC Classic Motor Show. The named cars included the McLaren 675LT, BMW 850 CSi, Porsche 911 Targa 4S and Ford Mustang.
- 2018: The one-off Ferrari 330 GT Vignale Shooting Brake was reported as heading to auction with an estimated value of approximately £200,000–£260,000.
- 2019: Jay Kay parted with the signal-green Ferrari LaFerrari in April. Later catalog material recorded just over 3,000 kilometers.
- 2019: Bonhams listed the Porsche 911 Carrera RS Lightweight as offered from Jay Kay’s collection. Related reporting also named a Porsche Carrera GT and Ferrari F12tdf among vehicles sold or offered.
- 2020: The 1972 BMW 1602, described as Jay Kay’s first car, was offered for sale.
This turnover does not make the collection less serious. In fact, it suggests an active collector who changes direction, sells cars and makes room for different interests. It does mean that old articles and auction announcements cannot be combined into a list of cars currently sitting in his garage.
Readers researching provenance or comparable sales can also follow collector car auctions and archived catalogs from houses such as Bonhams, RM Sotheby’s, Silverstone Auctions and Iconic Auctioneers. Those records are useful for establishing when a vehicle was offered, its stated mileage and its auction estimate or result. They should not be read as proof of a present-day Jay Kay inventory unless a dated source says so.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What makes Jay Kay’s collection distinctive?
1. Specification matters as much as price
The signal-green LaFerrari, black-and-green Ferrari Enzo and one-off Vignale Shooting Brake show a preference for cars with a visual or historical point of difference. The appeal is not simply that these cars are expensive. Their colors, bodywork, provenance or configuration make them memorable.
2. The garage crosses generations
The documented vehicles span 1970s classics, 1980s and 1990s performance cars, modern supercars and hypercars, American muscle, luxury vehicles and motorcycles. The 2018 Silverstone offering alone brought together a McLaren 675LT, BMW 850 CSi, Porsche 911 Targa 4S and Mustang.
3. Some cars became cultural objects
The Diablo SE30’s role in Cosmic Girl and the Enzo’s connection to Black Devil Car gave the cars a life outside collector circles. For Jamiroquai fans, they are part of the band’s visual and lyrical mythology. For car enthusiasts, they are still judged by the significance of the underlying models.
4. The evidence points to a driver as well as a collector
Jay Kay’s reported 600 miles in the Vignale Shooting Brake during its first year and the LaFerrari’s later low-mileage record show contrasting approaches to use. Some cars appear to have been driven and enjoyed; others were preserved or used sparingly. That is more nuanced than the idea of a single collecting philosophy applied to every vehicle.

What can be said about the value?
The collection is reasonably described as multi-million-dollar in the broad sense that individual documented cars have carried seven-figure valuations or reported sale figures, while other cars have had six-figure auction estimates. But there is no sound basis for adding old estimates, asking prices and reported sales into a current total.
The Ferrari Enzo’s reported £3.5 million sale, the LaFerrari’s market significance, the Vignale Shooting Brake’s £200,000–£260,000 estimate and the McLaren’s £230,000–£280,000 estimate all belong to specific cars, dates and currencies. They are not an audited appraisal of Jay Kay’s net worth or of the present value of his garage.
Auction estimates are not guaranteed sale prices. Reported prices may not include every fee or may not be supported by a primary result. Market values also change with condition, mileage, originality, documentation and broader collector demand.

Does Jay Kay still own these cars?
For many of the best-known vehicles, the answer cannot be confirmed from the available public record—and for several, the documented answer is that they were later offered for sale. The LaFerrari, Vignale Shooting Brake, BMW 1602 and several cars from the Porsche, McLaren and BMW sales should therefore be described in the past tense.
A late-2026 social-media claim that Jay Kay was collecting a Ferrari F80 has not been treated as verified ownership because it lacks a primary Ferrari, dealer, auction or independently authenticated vehicle record. Social-media photographs and enthusiast claims can be useful leads, but they do not replace a dated sale document or a direct statement.
The responsible wording is has owned, was part of his collection, appeared in his garage or was offered from Jay Kay’s collection. Saying that every car listed here is currently in his garage would overstate the evidence.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many cars does Jay Kay own?
There is no authoritative, continuously updated public inventory. Published figures refer to different moments and counting methods: approximately 68 cars in one Top Gear interview, 37 vehicles including motorcycles in an account of a 2010 statement, and more than 100 vehicles owned over the course of his collecting career. The safest answer is that he has owned dozens of vehicles and possibly more than 100 in total, but his current number is unknown.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesDoes Jay Kay still own the green Ferrari LaFerrari?
No, the documented record says Jay Kay parted with the signal-green LaFerrari in April 2019. Later RM Sotheby’s catalog material recorded just over 3,000 kilometers when he sold it.
Which cars appeared in Jamiroquai’s Cosmic Girl video?
Jay Kay is shown driving a purple Lamborghini Diablo SE30, while a Ferrari F40 and Ferrari F355 appear in the chase sequence. The video’s association with Jay Kay’s collection is well documented, but the precise ownership history of every car used in filming should not be overstated.
What Ferrari was associated with the song Black Devil Car?
The song became associated with Jay Kay’s black Ferrari Enzo, which coverage described as having an unusual green interior. A later reported sale price of approximately £3.5 million has not been independently verified here through a directly accessible official auction result.
Was the BMW 1602 Jay Kay’s first car?
Contemporary coverage reported that the 1972 BMW 1602 was Jay Kay’s first car and the vehicle in which he learned to drive. It was offered for sale in 2020.
The Bottom Line
Jay Kay’s garage is best understood as a rolling collection rather than a fixed list. Its defining features are unusual specifications, genuine automotive rarity, breadth across eras and a rare connection to music culture. The Ferrari Enzo, green LaFerrari, Vignale Shooting Brake, Lamborghini Diablo SE30, Porsche Carrera RS and BMW 1602 each tell a different story—but several were later sold. The cars are documented chapters in Jay Kay’s collecting career, not proof of a definitive present-day garage or a precisely calculable total value.
