The band had played Phoenix and were due to continue to a show in Santa Ana. Reporting identified Engelbrektson as the tour manager and the person driving the band’s van; the available evidence does not support saying that Fitzpatrick or Laading was driving. The wrong-way-driving finding should also be distinguished from speculation about the pickup driver’s condition or intent: the authorities’ reported finding concerns the vehicle’s direction of travel.
Who were Stephen Fitzpatrick and Audun Laading?
Stephen Fitzpatrick and Audun Laading were the two members of Her’s. Fitzpatrick was 24 and Laading was 25 when they died; Engelbrektson was 37. Contemporary music reporting identified the musicians and their ages after the crash.

The label’s descriptions are best understood as the perspective of Her’s record label rather than an objective genre definition. The music drew on a broad set of references, including rock, bossa nova, surf, garage, 1950s balladry, and indie pop. Those contrasts help explain why the duo’s recordings could sound playful and unusual without reducing Her’s to a single genre.
