The released Yellowstone universe currently has five series: 1883, 1923, Yellowstone, Marshals, and Dutton Ranch. For the Dutton family timeline, watch them in this order: 1883 → 1923 → Yellowstone → Marshals → Dutton Ranch. Two other projects, 1944 and 6666, remain announced or in development and are not available to watch.

Scope note: This guide reflects the Dutton/Yellowstone screen universe as documented on August 13, 2026. It separates released series from projects that have only been announced or remain in development.

How many Yellowstone series are available?

There are five released series to watch: Yellowstone, 1883, 1923, Marshals, and Dutton Ranch. The first three establish the Dutton family across different generations. The last two continue separate characters’ stories after the events of Yellowstone.

Two more projects belong in a development category rather than a watch list: 1944, described as the next chapter of the anthology, and 6666, the proposed Four Sixes Ranch series. Neither should be treated as an available show based on the current evidence.

Every Yellowstone show in chronological order

  1. 1883
  2. 1923
  3. Yellowstone
  4. Marshals
  5. Dutton Ranch

This is the clearest order if you want to follow the Dutton family timeline. It begins with James and Margaret Dutton’s westward journey, moves to a later generation protecting the Montana ranch, and then reaches the modern family before following Kayce, Beth, and Rip into their post-Yellowstone stories.

The chronology is a useful viewing framework, not a claim that every post-Yellowstone event occurs in a precisely separated time period. Marshals and Dutton Ranch are both continuations of the modern storyline, but the official family guide places them in the order above.

1. 1883

1883 is the chronological beginning of the Dutton story. James and Margaret Dutton leave Texas with their children and join a wagon train led by Shea Brennan. The journey takes them west through a dangerous and unsettled frontier before the family reaches the future site of the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch in Montana.

The series works as both a Western journey and the origin story of the family’s connection to the land. Unlike the modern ranch drama, its central conflict is not primarily about preserving an established property. The Duttons are still trying to survive the journey and find somewhere they can build a permanent home.

Format: Completed 10-episode limited miniseries.

Where to watch: All 10 episodes are available on Paramount+.

Why watch it: Choose 1883 first if you want to see how the Dutton presence in Montana began. It is also a good entry point for viewers who prefer a self-contained story rather than a long-running modern series.

2. 1923

1923 jumps forward to the early twentieth century, when a later generation is running the established Montana ranch. Jacob and Cara Dutton manage the family operation while Spencer Dutton is away from home. The story places the Duttons in a period shaped by economic hardship, social change, violence, and pressure on landowners.

Its position between 1883 and Yellowstone makes it the bridge between the family’s arrival in Montana and the modern ranch dynasty. You do not need to watch 1883 first to understand 1923, but the earlier series gives more context to the family’s relationship with the ranch and the generations that follow.

Format: Two-season drama; both seasons are available.

Where to watch: Paramount+.

Main cast identified by Paramount: Harrison Ford, Helen Mirren, Brandon Sklenar, and other principal performers.

3. Yellowstone

The flagship series takes place in the twenty-first century and follows John Dutton III and the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch. The ranch is surrounded by competing interests and family pressures, making ownership and control of the land the central force in the modern story.

Yellowstone is the series that introduced the wider television universe. It ran for five seasons and provides the background for the later stories of Kayce Dutton, Beth Dutton, and Rip Wheeler.

Format: Five seasons, totaling 53 episodes.

Where to watch: Paramount Network scheduling and Peacock streaming. Paramount’s current guide specifically says that the original Yellowstone is not available on Paramount+.

That distinction is important. Paramount Network is a cable television network, so its availability depends on a television package or a live-TV service that carries the channel. Paramount+ is a separate streaming service. Having access to one does not automatically provide access to the other.

Home-media option for Yellowstone

Viewers who want offline access or a permanent copy of the flagship series can look for Yellowstone: The Complete Series DVD. The current retailer listing described in the research is a 24-disc set containing all five seasons, 53 episodes, and more than 19 hours of special features. It is a set for the original series only; do not assume that it includes 1883, 1923, Marshals, or Dutton Ranch unless the specific product listing says so.

4. Marshals

Marshals is a post-Yellowstone continuation centered on Kayce Dutton. Rather than returning to ranch life, Kayce joins an elite U.S. Marshals unit operating in Montana. The series shifts the franchise toward a procedural format, with law-enforcement cases providing the structure while Kayce’s family history remains part of the larger story.

Premiere: March 1, 2026.

Where to watch: CBS and Paramount+.

Current status: The series has been renewed for a second season. A renewal does not by itself establish a release date or episode count for that season, so those details should be checked separately when announced.

5. Dutton Ranch

Dutton Ranch follows Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler after the events of Yellowstone. They leave for South Texas with their ward, Carter, and attempt to build a new life in unfamiliar territory. Their plans are complicated by a rival ranch owner, the demands of running a new operation, and the family pressures that have followed them from Montana.

This is a continuation for Beth and Rip rather than another historical origin story. It therefore makes the most sense after Yellowstone, once you know their relationship, their history, and the circumstances that lead them away from the original ranch.

Season one premiere: May 15, 2026.

Where to watch: Paramount+ and Paramount Network.

Chronological order versus release order

Chronological order

  1. 1883
  2. 1923
  3. Yellowstone
  4. Marshals
  5. Dutton Ranch

Pick this order if your priority is the Dutton family timeline. It starts with the family’s arrival in the American West, shows a later generation maintaining the Montana property, and then moves into the modern ranch story and its two continuations.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Release order

  1. Yellowstone — 2018
  2. 1883 — 2021
  3. 1923 — 2022
  4. Marshals — 2026
  5. Dutton Ranch — 2026

Release order is better if you want to experience the franchise as its audience originally did. It begins with the modern flagship, then reveals the family’s earlier history through the prequels before returning to post-Yellowstone stories.

For a first-time viewer, there is no wrong choice, but the trade-off is clear: chronological order prioritizes continuity, while release order preserves the way the franchise’s history was originally introduced. If you already know the major premise of Yellowstone, chronological order is a straightforward binge. If you want the original cultural and narrative entry point, start with Yellowstone.

Where to watch every released series

Series Streaming or television home Availability and status
1883 Paramount+ All 10 episodes available; completed limited miniseries
1923 Paramount+ Both seasons available
Yellowstone Peacock; Paramount Network Five seasons; not on Paramount+
Marshals Paramount+; CBS Premieres March 1, 2026; renewed for season two
Dutton Ranch Paramount+; Paramount Network Season one premiered May 15, 2026

If your goal is to watch the prequels and the newer continuations in one streaming service, you can stream the Yellowstone spinoffs on Paramount+, subject to the current plan, territory, and catalog available where you live. That does not include the original Yellowstone according to Paramount’s current guide, so you may need Peacock or a Paramount Network television package for that series.

Streaming rights can change, especially across national catalogs. Before subscribing, confirm that the specific seasons you want are available in your country and that your chosen plan includes them. CBS and Paramount Network are linear outlets, not interchangeable names for Paramount+.

What is 1944?

1944 has been described by Paramount as the next chapter of the Yellowstone anthology after Dutton Ranch and Marshals. Its title indicates another historical period in the Dutton saga, but the available official announcement does not establish a final cast, episode count, exact premiere date, or completed-production status.

Status: Announced or in development.

It should not appear in a watch order or be described as available to stream. Until Paramount confirms the relevant production and release details, the responsible answer is simply that 1944 is a future project rather than a released spinoff.

What is 6666, and has it been released?

6666 was announced as a proposed spinoff focused on the Four Sixes Ranch in West Texas. The ranch was presented as a setting with its own cattle, horses, and cowboy culture, giving the project a distinct West Texas identity rather than making it another direct continuation of the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch.

Status: Announced or in development; not available as a released series.

The available announcement establishes the concept but does not provide a current release date or an available season. For that reason, 6666 belongs in a discussion of announced projects, not in the viewing order above.

Is The Madison a Yellowstone spinoff?

It should not automatically be counted as one. The current authoritative Dutton-family viewing guide identifies 1883, 1923, Yellowstone, Marshals, and Dutton Ranch as the principal stories, while the development information separately identifies 1944 and the earlier 6666 concept.

On that evidence, The Madison is best treated as a separate Taylor Sheridan and Paramount title unless a later official source explicitly places it inside the Yellowstone franchise. It should not be added to this watch order merely because it is associated with the same creator or distributor.

A simple viewing plan

  • Want the family history first? Watch 1883, then 1923, Yellowstone, Marshals, and Dutton Ranch.
  • Want the original audience experience? Watch Yellowstone, 1883, 1923, Marshals, and Dutton Ranch.
  • Want only the completed historical stories? Watch 1883 and 1923.
  • Want the modern ranch story and its continuations? Watch Yellowstone first, then choose Marshals for Kayce’s law-enforcement story or Dutton Ranch for Beth and Rip’s South Texas story.
  • Want every currently released entry? Use either of the two five-show orders above, but plan for more than one service because the original Yellowstone is separated from the Paramount+ titles.

Bottom line

The complete released Yellowstone universe currently consists of five shows: the historical origin stories 1883 and 1923, the flagship Yellowstone, and the post-series continuations Marshals and Dutton Ranch. Watch them in chronological order for the Dutton timeline, or in release order to follow the franchise’s original rollout. 1944 and 6666 are future or development-stage projects, not shows you can currently add to the binge.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many Yellowstone spinoffs are there?

The released Dutton/Yellowstone universe has five series: 1883, 1923, Yellowstone, Marshals, and Dutton Ranch. 1944 and 6666 are announced or development-stage projects, not currently available series.

What is the correct order to watch the Yellowstone shows?

The chronological order is 1883, 1923, Yellowstone, Marshals, and Dutton Ranch.

Is Yellowstone on Paramount+?

No. Paramount’s current guide says the original Yellowstone is available through Peacock and Paramount Network scheduling, but not on Paramount+.

Is 1883 a full series or a miniseries?

1883 is a completed 10-episode limited miniseries. It is not presented as an ongoing conventional multi-season show.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

When will 1944 be released?

1944 has been described as the next chapter of the anthology, but the available announcement does not confirm a release date, final cast, episode count, or completed-production status.

Is The Madison part of the Yellowstone universe?

It should not automatically be included. The current official Dutton-family guide does not enumerate The Madison as a Yellowstone entry, so it is best treated as a separate Taylor Sheridan and Paramount title unless Paramount later confirms otherwise.

The Bottom Line

Best chronological order: 1883 → 1923 → Yellowstone → Marshals → Dutton Ranch. The original Yellowstone is on Peacock and Paramount Network, not Paramount+, while the origin stories and newer continuations are available through Paramount+ subject to regional availability.
