To sign up for Netflix, visit netflix.com/signup, choose a plan, create an account with an email address and password, and enter a payment method. Then open Netflix on your computer, phone, tablet, smart TV, streaming stick, game console, or cable box and select Sign In. This guide explains the device-specific steps and what to do when signup, login, recovery, or TV activation goes wrong.
The quickest way to create a Netflix account is to open netflix.com/signup, choose a plan, enter an email address and password, add a payment method, and then sign in on your device. You can create the account on a computer, phone, or tablet before watching on a television. Many newer smart TVs and streaming devices also start signup inside the Netflix app, but older hardware may require you to finish at Netflix.com.

Before you sign up
- Have an email address or mobile number that you can access.
- Choose a password you do not reuse elsewhere. Netflix passwords are case-sensitive.
- Have an accepted payment method ready. The exact plans, prices, currencies, taxes, and available features depend on your country and can change, so check the plan information shown during signup rather than relying on an old price list.
- If you plan to watch on a TV, confirm that the television or connected device supports Netflix.
How to create a Netflix account on a computer
- Go to netflix.com/signup.
- Review the plans available in your country and select one.
- Enter your email address and create a password.
- Enter your payment information and complete the signup prompts.
- Open Netflix on your computer or another supported device and select Sign In.
- Enter the email address or phone number and password used for the account.
Netflix normally charges monthly on the date you joined. The displayed date can be a day earlier or later because of time-zone differences. If your usual billing date is the 31st, Netflix may charge on the last day of a shorter month. Accounts billed through a third-party provider can follow that provider’s billing schedule instead.
How to sign up on an Android phone or tablet
On Android, Netflix directs most new customers to complete signup in a mobile browser:

- Open a browser on the Android phone or tablet.
- Visit netflix.com/signup.
- Choose a plan, enter your email address and password, and add a payment method.
- Open the Netflix app and sign in after the account has been created.
If you start in the Google Play version of the Netflix app, it may send you to a phone or computer browser to finish signup. The Samsung Galaxy Store version can have a different supported signup flow and may allow the process inside the app.
How to sign up on an iPhone or iPad
New Netflix accounts are generally created in a browser rather than inside the Netflix iPhone or iPad app:
- Open Safari or another mobile browser.
- Go to netflix.com/signup.
- Select a plan and enter your email address and password.
- Add a payment method and finish the account setup.
- Open or download Netflix and select Sign In.
Netflix’s current help information says the latest app requires iOS or iPadOS 18 or later. A previously downloaded version may remain available on some older devices, but app availability and support can change. If the app cannot be installed, use the device’s software-update screen and check Netflix’s current device requirements.
How to sign up on a smart TV or streaming device
- Open the Netflix app from the TV or device’s home screen.
- Choose the option to sign up or start a membership.
- Enter an email address or phone number when prompted.
- Check that inbox or phone for Netflix’s activation link.
- Open the link, choose a plan, create the account password, and add a payment method.
- Return to the Netflix app and sign in if it does not sign you in automatically.
The exact screens vary by manufacturer. Some devices show a QR code or activation instruction rather than a clickable link. Follow the on-screen instructions and make sure the email address or phone number is entered correctly.
If you want to add Netflix to a television that does not have the app, an optional Netflix-compatible streaming device can provide the app through an HDMI input. The device and the Netflix subscription are separate purchases. Check the current model’s Netflix support, HDMI requirements, operating-system support, and regional availability before buying.
Cable boxes
Open Netflix from the cable box’s app menu and follow the prompts. Some older cable boxes cannot complete signup directly. If the screen tells you to use another device, create the account at Netflix.com on a computer or mobile browser, then return to the cable box and choose Sign In.
How to log in to an existing Netflix account
Creating an account and signing in are separate steps. If you already have a Netflix membership, do not start a second signup simply because a TV displays a welcome screen.
- Open Netflix on the supported device.
- Select Sign In.
- Enter the account owner’s email address or phone number.
- Enter the password and choose Continue or the equivalent button.
On some TVs and other devices, Netflix offers a sign-in link or one-time code. Carefully check the email address or phone number shown on the screen before requesting the code. The code must be sent to contact information linked to the account. Use the newest code or link you receive.

If your TV shows signup even though you already have Netflix
- Open the Netflix app’s help or settings menu.
- Choose Sign Out, Deactivate, or Reset, depending on the device’s wording.
- Return to the welcome screen and select Sign In, not Sign Up.
- Try the email address or phone number belonging to the Netflix account owner.
If there was a recent Netflix charge but the account cannot be found, you may be trying a different email address from the one used for billing. Check other inboxes and payment records. A TV that says it is not part of the Netflix Household may also require the account’s on-screen verification process. Temporary codes do not replace account ownership or the account holder’s approval.
How to reset a forgotten Netflix password
Go to netflix.com/loginhelp and request a password-reset link by email or SMS.
- Email reset links expire after 24 hours.
- SMS recovery is available only if a mobile number has been added to the account.
- An SMS verification code expires after 20 minutes.
- When changing the password, leave the option to sign out all devices selected whenever it is offered. This is especially important if you suspect that someone else knows the old password.
After resetting the password, update any saved password in your browser or password manager. If the password is rejected before you reset it, check capitalization, spaces, keyboard layout, and autofill data first.

Do not send payment information to an unsolicited person claiming to provide Netflix support. Use Netflix’s own website or the support route supplied by your billing provider.
When a Netflix sign-in code or link does not arrive
- Check the spelling of the email address or phone number displayed on the device.
- Look in spam, junk, promotions, and filtered-message folders.
- Wait briefly, then request another code or link.
- Use only the most recent message. Earlier links and codes may no longer work.
- If the message has expired, request a replacement.
- Choose password sign-in instead if that option is available.
Netflix’s code-and-link troubleshooting guidance says these links and codes expire 15 minutes after they are requested. That expiry window is separate from the longer expiry periods for password-reset email links and SMS password-recovery codes.

- Payment error: Recheck the billing details, card number, expiration date, security code, and billing address. If everything is correct but the error continues, contact the financial institution or Netflix support.
- Wrong country or currency: Plan and billing information are determined by the country selected or detected during signup. Check the displayed country before submitting payment.
- Duplicate account concern: Stop and search your email accounts for Netflix messages or check payment records before creating another membership.
- Activation link does not work: Request a new link and open the newest message. Avoid using an old browser tab or previously sent link.
- App opens to the wrong screen: Sign out or reset the app from its Get Help or settings menu, then select Sign In.
What to do when the Netflix app is missing
- Search the TV, streaming player, game console, or cable box’s app store for Netflix.
- Install available system and app updates.
- Restart the device and search again.
- Check the manufacturer’s compatibility information.
Netflix supports many current smart TVs, phones, tablets, computers, game consoles, and streaming players, including families such as Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Chromecast, and Apple TV. However, some televisions and TV-connected devices made before 2015 may no longer support Netflix. If the app is still unavailable after updates, use a different supported device or connect a compatible streaming player to an HDMI port.

Choosing a device for an older television
A streaming stick or box is optional: it does not replace the Netflix membership and does not create a subscription by itself. It can be useful when the TV lacks the Netflix app, has an unsupported operating system, or is too slow to run the app reliably.
Before buying, check:
- That the exact model—not merely the brand—supports Netflix.
- That the television has the required HDMI input and that the device includes the necessary power cable or adapter.
- Wi-Fi requirements and whether the device supports the TV’s resolution.
- Availability in your country and compatibility with your television’s electrical setup.
Common supported categories include Roku players, Amazon Fire TV devices, Chromecast or Google TV devices, Apple TV, and current smart TVs. Compatibility and product availability change, so verify the listing and Netflix support before purchase.
Can you connect an iPhone or iPad to a TV?
A compatible iPhone or iPad can sometimes play Netflix on an HDMI display through a wired connection. Netflix documents wired playback and recommends Apple’s USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter for compatible USB-C devices. This is not universal: the phone or tablet must support video output, the adapter and cable must match the device’s port, and Netflix compatibility can vary. Check the specific device and adapter requirements before buying a USB-C-to-HDMI adapter.
Manage the account after signing in
From the Netflix Account page in a browser, the account owner can review or manage information such as:
