Prime Video’s U.S. July 2025 highlights are Heads of State (July 2), Ballard (July 9), The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 (July 16), and Wicked (July 25). The advertised 84-movie, seven-TV-show count is specific to the guide’s scope; Prime Video catalogs, release dates, and access terms vary by country and by whether sports, episodes, add-on channels, and rent-or-buy titles are counted.
Amazon’s July 2025 Prime Video lineup is U.S.-focused and includes four especially notable arrivals: Heads of State on July 2, Ballard on July 9, The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 on July 16, and Wicked on July 25. The headline count—84 movies and seven TV shows—is the scoped count used for this guide, not a universal worldwide total. Prime Video’s catalog varies by country, and totals change depending on whether licensed series, sports, individual episodes, add-on channels, and rent-or-buy titles are included.
The calendar below follows Amazon’s U.S. announcement wherever possible. Some titles may be included with a Prime subscription, while others may be offered through a channel, as a rental or purchase, or with different access terms in your account.
July’s four biggest Prime Video releases
Heads of State — July 2
Amazon’s clearest star-led original movie for July is Heads of State, an action comedy directed by Ilya Naishuller. Idris Elba plays Sam Clarke, the prime minister of the United Kingdom, while John Cena plays Will Derringer, the president of the United States. Their public rivalry becomes a liability when both men are targeted by a powerful foreign adversary, leaving them to work together.

The cast also includes Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Paddy Considine, Stephen Root, Carla Gugino, Jack Quaid, and Sarah Niles. It is the month’s most obvious choice for viewers looking for a new, accessible action title rather than a catalog discovery.
Ballard — July 9
Ballard expands the Bosch television universe with Maggie Q as Renée Ballard, an LAPD detective assigned to cold cases. Amazon describes Ballard as taking on long-forgotten crimes; the series centers on an underfunded, all-volunteer cold-case unit.
The ten-episode season is listed as a full-season premiere by Tom’s Guide, rather than a weekly rollout. That makes Ballard the strongest binge-oriented television addition in this month’s lineup and the most direct draw for Bosch viewers. Michael Connelly’s connection to the broader franchise also makes his books a natural companion for readers, although this guide does not treat any particular novel as a confirmed one-to-one adaptation.
The Summer I Turned Pretty, season 3 — July 16
The third season of The Summer I Turned Pretty is also its final season. Amazon’s schedule begins with a two-episode premiere, followed by weekly episodes through the stated finale on September 17.
The story returns to Belly and Jeremiah as they spend another summer at Cousins Beach after Belly’s junior year of college. Viewers who want to follow the story beyond the screen can also look for Jenny Han’s The Summer I Turned Pretty novels, but book editions and regional availability should be checked separately from the streaming listing.

Wicked (2024) — July 25
The 2024 film version of Wicked arrives on the July 25 calendar. It is the month’s major event-film catalog addition and likely to be one of the most searched titles on the service.
Prime Video availability does not automatically mean that a movie is included at no additional cost with every Prime membership. Depending on the account, location, and current offer, a title may appear as part of the subscription catalog, through an add-on channel, or as a rental or purchase. Check the title page before assuming which access option applies.

Prime Video series and documentaries arriving in July
Amazon’s highlighted original and exclusive programming includes the following titles:
- Simple Plan: The Kids in the Crowd — a documentary centered on the band and its place in music culture.
- Ballard — the Bosch-universe cold-case drama starring Maggie Q, arriving July 9.
- Menem — a new Amazon title included in the July Originals announcement.
- One Night in Idaho: The College Murders — a true-crime documentary addition.
- The Summer I Turned Pretty, season 3 — the final season, beginning July 16 with two episodes before its weekly schedule.
- Surf Girls: International, season 2 — the second season of the surfing-focused series.
- Follow — an Amazon title also listed among the month’s new programming.
- Justice on Trial — a new title in the July announcement.
- Shiny Happy People: A Teenage Holy War, season 2 — the second season of the documentary series.
The exact “seven TV shows” figure should be read as an editorially defined count, not as a complete description of every episodic program available through Prime Video in every country. Tom’s Guide’s broader U.S. list also includes Sherlock season 1 and Shooter seasons 1–3 on July 1, which illustrates why different entertainment guides can report different totals.
Live sports, music, and new weekly episodes
Live sports
Amazon’s U.S. announcement includes several live events in addition to movies and series:
- New York Yankees: Toronto Blue Jays on July 2 and July 23, Seattle Mariners on July 9, and Tampa Bay Rays on July 30.
- ONE Championship: live programming on July 11.
- Premier Boxing Champions: Manny Pacquiao versus Mario “El Azteca” Barrios on July 19.
- WNBA: five games during the month.
Sports availability is particularly dependent on U.S. broadcast rights, location, blackout rules, and the current Prime Video interface. A game listed in Amazon’s announcement may not be available in the same way outside the United States.
Music programming
Fuji Rock Festival is scheduled for July 25–27. Amazon identifies Fred Again, Vulfpeck, and Vampire Weekend among the 2025 headliners. This is a live or event-based offering rather than a conventional movie or season release, so the viewing schedule may differ from an on-demand catalog title.

How to interpret “new on Prime Video”
Prime Video combines several types of programming in one service interface:
- Amazon Originals and exclusives: programming commissioned or presented by Amazon.
- Licensed catalog titles: movies and series available for a limited licensing period.
- Live sports and events: programming governed by rights, location, and event schedules.
- Add-on subscriptions: titles accessible through a separate channel subscription.
- Rent-or-buy listings: movies that appear in Prime Video’s storefront without necessarily being included in the standard subscription.
- Regional catalogs: different countries receive different titles, dates, and access conditions.
For that reason, “arriving on Prime Video,” “listed by Amazon,” and “available through Prime Video” are safer descriptions than saying every item is included with a standard Prime membership. The U.S. lineup used here should not be presented as a worldwide July catalog.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to watch the July lineup
- Open the Prime Video app or website and search for the exact title.
- Check the release date and the access label shown on the title page.
- Confirm whether the title is included, requires an add-on channel, or is offered to rent or buy.
- For live sports and Fuji Rock, check the event page for the current start time and any location restrictions.
- For weekly series, return to the title page after the scheduled episode date rather than expecting the entire season at once.
What to watch first
For a new action-comedy movie, start with Heads of State on July 2. Ballard is the clearest choice for a crime-series binge and a continuation of the Bosch universe. Fans of Jenny Han’s adaptation should mark July 16 for The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3, while Wicked is the month’s biggest event-film arrival on July 25.

The July 1 catalog drop also offers a substantial collection of established films for viewers who prefer a familiar feature over a new original.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are there really 84 movies and seven TV shows on Prime Video in July 2025?
The headline count refers to the U.S.-oriented July 2025 lineup and uses a particular editorial counting method. Catalog series, sports, individual episodes, add-on channels, and rent-or-buy titles may be counted differently by other guides. It is not a universal worldwide Prime Video total.
What are the biggest Prime Video releases in July 2025?
The main dates are Heads of State on July 2, Ballard on July 9, The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 on July 16, and Wicked on July 25. The large catalog drop begins July 1.
Are all of these titles included with Amazon Prime?
No. Prime Video’s catalog and access terms vary by country. A title can also be included with a subscription, offered through an add-on channel, or listed as a rental or purchase. Check the title page in your account.
Do The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 and Ballard release weekly?
The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 begins with two episodes on July 16, then continues weekly until the stated September 17 finale. Ballard is listed by Tom’s Guide as a ten-episode season released all at once.
The Bottom Line
For the U.S. Prime Video calendar, the essential July 2025 dates are Heads of State on July 2, Ballard on July 9, The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 on July 16, and Wicked on July 25. The advertised “84 movies and 7 TV shows” count is a defined editorial scope, not a guaranteed global total or proof that every title is included with a standard Prime membership.
