Most failed three-month Apple TV+ redemptions are eligibility or account-association problems—not faults with video playback. Before reinstalling the Apple TV app or changing account settings, check these five things in order:
- You have the correct Apple promotion, not the separate seven-day introductory trial.
- Your device is new, eligible, purchased from Apple or an Apple Authorized Reseller, and still within the redemption period.
- The offer has not already been used by you or someone in your Family Sharing group.
- The eligible device is updated and signed in with the correct Apple Account.
- Your Apple Account has a valid payment method and no unpaid balance blocking subscriptions.
If the offer still does not appear after those checks, contact Apple Support with proof of purchase and the device’s setup date. If the promotion came from a carrier, retailer, or another company rather than Apple, contact that company instead.
First, confirm which Apple TV offer you have
Apple lists more than one way to try its streaming service. Its current U.S. Apple TV sales page separately describes a seven-day trial for a new subscriber and a three-month offer connected to the purchase of an eligible Apple device. The offers have different eligibility rules.

Do not start the seven-day trial expecting it to turn into the three-month hardware promotion. Open the Apple TV app on the device connected to the offer and rely on the exact offer displayed there. You can also review Apple’s current Apple TV offer information and the terms for the specific promotion.
1. Check whether the device qualifies
Under Apple’s current U.S. promotional terms, the hardware-linked offer applies to a new iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, or Mac that can run the latest applicable operating system and was purchased from Apple or an Apple Authorized Reseller. The offer is not automatically valid for every device that can install the Apple TV app.
A used, refurbished, previously activated, or non-authorized-reseller device may not satisfy those terms. That is a qualification issue, not something an app reinstall can fix. Check:
- the exact device model;
- whether it was sold as new;
- where it was purchased;
- the purchase date; and
- when the device was first set up or activated.
Apple’s U.S. Apple TV promotional terms are the controlling source for the offer’s hardware and seller requirements. Terms can differ by country, promotion, and date.
2. Make sure the 90-day redemption window has not expired
Apple’s consumer wording summarizes the deadline as 90 days. The U.S. terms describe the requirement as claiming the offer within three months after first setting up the new eligible device.
Use the device’s first setup date—not the date you happened to open the Apple TV app—to work out the deadline. If more than three months have passed, repeatedly deleting the app, signing out, or trying another device is unlikely to restore the promotion.
If the dates show that you are still within the window, or if the device was set up much later than the purchase date and Apple’s system appears to have calculated the deadline incorrectly, save your proof of purchase and ask Apple Support to investigate.

3. Check your Apple TV and Family Sharing history
Apple’s terms generally exclude current Apple TV subscribers and restrict the offer when you or your Family Sharing group has previously accepted a qualifying three-month or one-year Apple TV free offer. Apple also warns that participation in an Apple service through Family Sharing can affect eligibility.
This can be confusing: the person who bought the new device may never have redeemed the promotion personally, while another family member may already have used the single family-level offer. Ask each member of the Family Sharing group whether they have accepted an Apple TV promotional trial.
Also check whether the account is:
- currently subscribed to Apple TV;
- covered by Apple One;
- already attached to another Apple TV free trial or promotion; or
- using a different Apple Account for Media & Purchases than the one you expected.
The three-month offer cannot be combined with Apple One or another Apple TV free trial or offer under the cited U.S. terms. Do not cancel an existing subscription merely to chase the promotion: cancellation can change your access and does not guarantee that the three-month offer will then appear.
4. Update the qualifying Apple device
Apple instructs users who cannot redeem a promotion to install the latest available operating-system update for the device. The hardware terms likewise require the eligible device to be capable of running the latest applicable operating system.
Update the device, restart it, and then open the Apple TV app again:
- iPhone or iPad: Settings → General → Software Update.
- Mac: Apple menu → System Settings → General → Software Update.
- Apple TV: Settings → System → Software Updates → Update Software.
The exact menu can vary with the operating-system version. If the device cannot install the latest version supported for its model, confirm with Apple Support whether it meets the promotion’s current requirement.
5. Sign in on the eligible device with the right Apple Account
The promotion is associated with the Apple Account used on the qualifying device. Sign in on that new device before looking for the offer in the Apple TV app. If more than one account is present, pay particular attention to the account shown for Media & Purchases; it may not be the same account used for iCloud.

Then:
- Open the Apple TV app on the qualifying iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Apple TV.
- Confirm that the intended Apple Account is signed in.
- Look for the three-month promotional card or banner.
- Read the displayed renewal terms before selecting the button to accept.
On a newly configured Mac, Apple says the offer may take at least four hours to appear. If setup was recent, wait that period before making disruptive account changes.
6. Redeem from the qualifying Apple device first
The hardware offer must be claimed in the Apple TV app. Opening a program, visiting the Apple TV website, or starting a different trial does not necessarily trigger the device-linked promotion.

After the promotion has been accepted on the eligible Apple hardware, you can usually watch through the Apple TV app on other supported devices where the service is available.
7. Fix payment-method and unpaid-balance errors
A free trial can still require an Apple Account that is ready for subscriptions and future billing. Apple requires a valid payment method for subscriptions, and a failed or outdated payment method can prevent the offer from being accepted.
Open the payment settings for the Apple Account and check that the billing name, address, country or region, and card details match the financial institution’s records. If the payment method was declined, Apple recommends adding a different valid payment method and removing the old one; your bank or card issuer can explain the specific decline.

- “Billing problem with a previous purchase”
- “Verification required”
- an unpaid balance or payment-method warning
These messages can mean that an earlier Apple purchase remains unpaid. Apple says an unpaid balance may block subscriptions and other account activity. Its unpaid-balance instructions include retrying the current payment method, adding another one, or using an Apple Gift Card or App Store Card to cover the amount owed.
An Apple Gift Card or App Store Card is only a possible way to settle an existing balance. It does not create eligibility for an expired, previously used, or otherwise unavailable Apple TV promotion. Verify the amount owed before buying or redeeming anything.

8. Check the Apple Account country or region
Apple says media-service availability and features vary by country or region. A promotion available in one market may not appear for an Apple Account registered elsewhere, and the Apple TV app may offer different features when you are traveling internationally.
Check both your current location and the country or region assigned to the Apple Account. Do not change the account country merely to obtain a trial. Changing regions can affect payment methods, active subscriptions, purchased content, and other account services. A VPN is not an official eligibility solution either.

If the offer came from a carrier, retailer, app developer, or another third party, the third party’s regional terms control the redemption process. Apple’s promotion troubleshooting guidance distinguishes Apple promotions from offers issued by other companies.
If you still need an eligible device
Buying hardware does not guarantee the three-month offer. The device must satisfy the current promotion’s requirements for model, condition, seller, operating system, Apple Account, and redemption timing.
An Apple TV 4K may be relevant if you genuinely need a new Apple streaming device, but check the current terms and seller status before buying. An online marketplace listing is not automatically an Apple Authorized Reseller, and a used or refurbished listing may not qualify even if the product model is eligible. Do not purchase a device solely to obtain the trial unless you also want the hardware and can verify those conditions.

- creating a new Apple Account;
- changing the Apple Account country or region;
- using a VPN;
- buying a used or refurbished device;
- reinstalling the Apple TV app repeatedly; or
- canceling Apple One or another subscription without first checking with Apple.
These actions can create new problems—lost access, changed billing arrangements, affected purchases, or additional account confusion—without correcting the underlying eligibility record.
Contact Apple Support with evidence
Escalate when the offer should be valid but is missing, the deadline appears to be calculated incorrectly, or an error does not match your account history. Have these details ready:

- device model and serial number, if requested;
- purchase date and retailer;
- proof that the device was purchased as new;
- the date the device was first set up or activated;
- the Apple Account email address or phone number, without posting it publicly;
- a screenshot of the missing offer or error message; and
- details of any Apple One subscription, current Apple TV subscription, Family Sharing membership, or previous promotion.
Use Apple’s official support route rather than a third-party “trial activation” service. If a carrier, retailer, or app supplied the promotion, contact that issuer as well; Apple may not be able to correct a third party’s redemption code or eligibility system.
Before accepting: check the automatic renewal
Do not confirm the trial without reading the renewal screen. Apple’s current U.S. terms state that the offer becomes a paid Apple TV subscription at $12.99 per month immediately after the free period and renews automatically until canceled. The price and terms can vary by country or change over time, so use the amount shown in your account at redemption as the authoritative figure.

However, canceling during the free period immediately ends access for you and your family members and forfeits the remaining trial; the trial cannot be reactivated. In other words, do not cancel prematurely if you still want to watch during the free period.

- No offer card at all: check the qualifying device, Apple Account, setup date, region, and prior family use.
- Offer appeared but will not activate: check the payment method, unpaid balance, Apple One, and other active Apple TV offers.
- Device was recently set up: update it, sign in correctly, and allow a newly configured Mac at least four hours for the offer to appear.
- More than 90 days have passed: the promotion may have expired; contact Apple only if your dates or purchase record indicate an error.
- Promotion came from another company: ask that company for redemption help.
