Jodi Hildebrandt is still in prison in Utah. As of August 12, 2026, she is serving a four-to-30-year sentence at the Utah State Correctional Facility in Salt Lake City after pleading guilty to four counts of aggravated child abuse in the case involving Ruby Franke’s children.
Her exact release date has not been set publicly. Utah uses an indeterminate-sentencing system, meaning the Utah Board of Pardons and Parole decides how long she serves within the applicable sentencing range. A first parole hearing has been reported for December 2026, but that hearing does not guarantee her release.
Where is Jodi Hildebrandt now?
Hildebrandt is incarcerated at the Utah State Correctional Facility in Salt Lake City. Netflix’s official explainer for its documentary about the case identifies the facility as the prison where she is serving her sentence, and recent reporting has likewise placed her there.

Some reports have described her as being in the facility’s women’s population, commonly referred to as Dell. A December 2025 report citing a Utah Department of Corrections public-information officer said Hildebrandt and Ruby Franke were in the same broad women’s facility but housed on separate sides or units. Housing assignments can change, however, so the safest current description is simply that Hildebrandt is incarcerated at the Utah State Correctional Facility.
Why is Jodi Hildebrandt in prison?
Hildebrandt was arrested on August 30, 2023, after one of Ruby Franke’s children escaped from Hildebrandt’s home in Ivins, Utah, and sought help from a neighbor. Hildebrandt and Franke were subsequently charged in connection with the abuse of two of Franke’s children.
On December 27, 2023, Hildebrandt pleaded guilty to four counts of aggravated child abuse. The Washington County Attorney’s Office said the four sentences would run consecutively. Franke also pleaded guilty to four aggravated-child-abuse counts in the same case.
The case attracted widespread attention because Franke had been known publicly for the family-oriented 8 Passengers YouTube channel, while Hildebrandt had operated a counseling and parenting business called ConneXions. Their criminal case concerned the abuse of Franke’s children, not merely controversial parenting advice or online content.
How long is Jodi Hildebrandt’s sentence?
On February 20, 2024, the Utah Fifth District Court sentenced Hildebrandt to four consecutive prison terms of one to 15 years each.
That sentence is commonly summarized as four to 30 years. It should not be described as a definite 60-year sentence simply by multiplying four counts by a 15-year maximum. Under the sentencing structure described by the Washington County Attorney’s Office and Utah authorities, the aggregate exposure is generally stated as four to 30 years.
| Question | Accurate answer |
|---|---|
| Minimum aggregate sentence commonly reported | Four years |
| Maximum aggregate sentence commonly reported | 30 years |
| Individual terms | Four consecutive terms of one to 15 years |
| Sentencing date | February 20, 2024 |
| Who determines actual time served? | The Utah Board of Pardons and Parole, within the applicable legal range |
When will Jodi Hildebrandt be released?
There is no confirmed public release date that can responsibly be stated at this time.
Utah is an indeterminate-sentencing state. The court imposes a range, but the Board of Pardons and Parole determines the period actually served within that range. As a result, neither the four-year minimum nor the 30-year maximum automatically tells readers the date Hildebrandt will leave prison.

Recent 2026 reporting says that Hildebrandt’s first parole hearing is scheduled for December 2026. That is a reported hearing date, not a release date. After a hearing, the board could keep her incarcerated, schedule a rehearing, or authorize release subject to conditions. The outcome cannot be known before the board makes its decision.
Readers should also be cautious with online posts claiming that Hildebrandt will definitely be released after four years or will necessarily serve the full 30 years. Neither claim follows automatically from her sentence.

What happens at a parole hearing?
A parole hearing gives the Utah Board of Pardons and Parole an opportunity to decide whether and when an incarcerated person may be released under Utah law. The board’s decision can involve continued incarceration, a later rehearing, or release with conditions.
The existence of a scheduled hearing does not mean parole has been granted. It also does not establish that the board has reached a conclusion about Hildebrandt’s case. The Utah Department of Corrections says public offender information may include legal status, housing information, board-hearing or rehearing dates, parole or termination dates, and sentence information. Its Offender Search system is the appropriate place to check for current custody and release information.
Did Jodi Hildebrandt appeal or try to change her sentence?
A 2026 report said Hildebrandt made a post-conviction effort in March 2025 to withdraw or challenge her guilty plea. The accessible reporting does not establish that the effort succeeded, changed her convictions, reduced her sentence, or led to her release.
It is therefore more accurate to say that she reportedly made a post-conviction challenge than to call it a successful appeal or sentence modification. A later court order would be needed before making a stronger claim.
Are Jodi Hildebrandt and Ruby Franke in the same prison?
Public reporting has placed both women at the Utah State Correctional Facility. A December 2025 report, citing a Utah Department of Corrections public-information officer, said they were in the same broad women’s facility but housed on separate sides or units.

That detail is time-sensitive. Prison housing assignments can change, and ordinary public offender-search results do not necessarily expose every housing detail. It is not safe to infer from their presence at the same facility that they share a unit, interact regularly, or have any particular relationship inside the prison.

What is known—and not known—about her life in prison?
The reliable public information establishes her institution, conviction, sentence, and the reported timing of her first parole hearing. It does not establish unverified claims about her day-to-day conduct, disciplinary record, treatment, influence inside the prison, or relationships with other incarcerated people.
Those claims should not be presented as facts without a named, high-quality source such as a court record, an official correctional statement, or attributable reporting. Prison information can also become outdated quickly, particularly details about housing and parole scheduling.
How to verify her current status
- Check the Utah Department of Corrections Offender Search for current custody and sentence information.
- Look for a listed Board of Pardons and Parole hearing or rehearing date rather than relying on a social-media post or unsourced article.
- Distinguish a hearing date from an actual parole decision and distinguish a parole decision from physical release.
- For claims about a changed conviction or sentence, look for a filed court order—not merely a report that a motion or petition was submitted.
Because custody records, housing assignments, and hearing schedules can change, any future update should use an absolute date and identify the government record or attributable report behind it.
