That family structure is often obscured because Mary-Kate, Ashley and Elizabeth are the best-known members of the family. The twins became major child stars through Full House and their Dualstar entertainment business, while Elizabeth later established a separate acting career that included Martha Marcy May Marlene and Marvel’s Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch. Trent has a small number of documented appearances, and Courtney Taylor and Jake have generally kept much lower public profiles.

- James Trent Olsen
- Mary-Kate Olsen
- Ashley Olsen
- Elizabeth Olsen
After David and Jarnette divorced, David married McKenzie Olsen. Their children are:
- Courtney Taylor Olsen
- Jake Olsen
That makes Courtney Taylor and Jake the paternal half-siblings of Trent, Mary-Kate, Ashley and Elizabeth—not their step-siblings. In total, the family has six children.
James Trent Olsen
James Trent Olsen, commonly known as Trent, is the oldest of the six siblings and the older brother of Mary-Kate, Ashley and Elizabeth. He is considerably less documented in mainstream entertainment coverage than his sisters.
Trent made cameo appearances as himself in some of the twins’ early direct-to-video projects, including You’re Invited to Mary-Kate & Ashley’s Sleepover Party and The Case of the Mystery Cruise. Those appearances should not be confused with a substantial acting career: the available public record supports describing them as limited cameos rather than presenting Trent as a major performer.

It is best understood as a light story about the family’s unusual childhood circumstances, not as evidence of a major business career.
Mary-Kate Olsen
Mary-Kate Olsen is one of the twins who shared the role of Michelle Tanner on the sitcom Full House. Because child-labor rules limit the amount of time one young performer can work, Mary-Kate and Ashley were cast together as the character. They began appearing on the series as infants and became nationally recognized during its run.
The twins’ popularity expanded well beyond Full House. During the 1990s and early 2000s, they appeared in films, television programs, books and direct-to-video releases connected with their Dualstar brand. Their names became associated with a broad youth-entertainment catalog rather than with one television role alone.
As an adult, Mary-Kate moved much of her professional focus toward fashion. She and Ashley co-founded The Row, a luxury fashion label that became the central part of their public working identity. Their later careers are therefore best described as a transition from child entertainment to fashion, rather than as a simple continuation of their acting careers.

A book about the twins’ early career
Readers interested specifically in the twins’ childhood fame may want to look for the official Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen biography, Our Story: Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen’s Official Biography, published by HarperEntertainment in 2004. The title is relevant to the twins’ early public life, but it should not be mistaken for a comprehensive biography of all six Olsen siblings or of Elizabeth’s later career.
Ashley Olsen
Ashley Olsen is Mary-Kate’s twin sister and the other central figure in the family’s entertainment and fashion history. Like Mary-Kate, she shared the role of Michelle Tanner on Full House and participated in the twins’ subsequent films, television projects, books and Dualstar releases.
Ashley and Mary-Kate later worked together at The Row. Although coverage often discusses them as a pair, they are two separate people and collaborators with distinct personalities and responsibilities. Their shared professional history explains why profiles frequently refer to “the Olsen twins,” but it does not mean that every decision or achievement should be attributed to them as if they were one person.
The sisters have also described their unusually close partnership as a consequence of having worked together from very early childhood. That public account helps explain the durability of their collaboration, but it does not justify assumptions about every aspect of their private relationship.
Elizabeth Olsen
Elizabeth Olsen is the younger full sister of Mary-Kate and Ashley. She was born on February 16, 1989, after the twins’ birth on June 13, 1986. As a child, Elizabeth appeared in small roles connected with some of her sisters’ projects, giving her an early exposure to the entertainment industry.
Elizabeth eventually pursued a career separate from the twins’ brand. Her breakthrough came with the independent drama Martha Marcy May Marlene, a performance that established her as an actor in her own right. She later gained worldwide recognition as Wanda Maximoff, also known as Scarlet Witch, in Marvel films and television productions.
Elizabeth has acknowledged that growing up in a family already familiar with the entertainment business gave her certain advantages, while also creating comparisons she had to navigate. Her career, however, developed through her own auditions and performances. It is more accurate to describe her as a successful actor with famous sisters than as an extension of the twins’ child-star enterprise.
She has also spoken positively about Mary-Kate and Ashley’s partnership, saying that she admired the twins’ relationship and did not view it as something she needed to compete with. That is evidence of how Elizabeth has characterized the family dynamic publicly—not proof of every private family circumstance.

Courtney Taylor Olsen is the younger paternal half-sister of Trent, Mary-Kate, Ashley and Elizabeth. She is the daughter of David Olsen and McKenzie Olsen.
Courtney Taylor has remained largely outside the family’s better-known entertainment careers. Public coverage contains relatively little reliable, first-hand information about her work or personal life. She is sometimes confused with unrelated people who have similar names, so claims about her occupation or acting history require particular caution.
There is no sound basis for filling the gaps in her public biography with speculation about her current job, relationships, residence or social-media activity. Her limited visibility does not indicate estrangement or conflict; it simply means that she has not been as publicly documented as her older sisters.
Rank #4
Jake Olsen
Jake Olsen is the youngest of the six siblings and the younger paternal half-brother of Mary-Kate, Ashley and Elizabeth. Like Courtney Taylor, he is David Olsen and McKenzie Olsen’s child.
Jake has not established a widely documented acting career comparable to those of his sisters. A 2016 Runway interview, as reported by later profiles, described some modeling experience and included his comments about growing up in a six-child family. He spoke of the siblings supporting one another’s dreams.
That interview offers a useful glimpse into the family’s public self-description, but it should not be treated as a complete account of their private relationships. Nor should a small amount of modeling work be expanded into a claim that Jake followed the same entertainment path as Mary-Kate, Ashley or Elizabeth.
Why are only some of the Olsen siblings famous?
The difference is primarily one of career and publicity, not family structure. Mary-Kate and Ashley entered television as infants and built an unusually visible entertainment business while they were still young. Elizabeth later chose acting and developed a separate, high-profile film and television career.
Trent had limited appearances in some of the twins’ projects, but the public record does not support portraying him as another major Olsen celebrity. Courtney Taylor and Jake have largely stayed out of the spotlight. As a result, articles and search results tend to concentrate on three siblings even though there are six.

In the 1990s, the Olsens were chiefly associated with sitcoms, family films and direct-to-video releases. What should not be assumed about the Olsen family
- Courtney Taylor and Jake should not be described as professional actors without specific, reliable evidence.
- The six siblings do not all have documented careers in entertainment or fashion.
- Courtney Taylor and Jake are paternal half-siblings, not step-siblings.
- Mary-Kate and Ashley’s privacy should not be presented as evidence of estrangement, rivalry or family conflict.
- Similar names in entertainment coverage can lead to mistaken identities, especially in accounts of Courtney Taylor Olsen.
- Current ages, residences, relationships, jobs and social-media activity should not be stated for the lesser-known siblings unless they are supported by current, reliable reporting.
The clearest answer is simple: there are six Olsen siblings. Trent, Mary-Kate, Ashley and Elizabeth are David and Jarnette Olsen’s children; Courtney Taylor and Jake are David’s children with McKenzie Olsen. The reason most people know only three names is that the twins and Elizabeth built highly visible careers, while the other members of the family have remained comparatively private.
