Elon Musk urged his roughly 227 million followers on X to cancel Netflix during a campaign spanning approximately September 30 to October 2, 2025. The appeal cited three children’s programs—The Baby-Sitters Club, Dead End: Paranormal Park, and CoComelon—while a related dispute involved political remarks attributed to Dead End: Paranormal Park creator Hamish Steele.
What happened
Elon Musk urged his roughly 227 million followers on X to cancel Netflix during a campaign that unfolded over approximately September 30 to October 2, 2025. The posts focused on alleged transgender or “woke” themes in children’s programming, while the wider dispute also involved political remarks attributed to Dead End: Paranormal Park creator Hamish Steele.
The three programs most prominently identified in reporting were The Baby-Sitters Club, Dead End: Paranormal Park, and CoComelon. Forbes reported that Musk repeatedly promoted the cancellation message over roughly 48 hours. Vanity Fair also reported that he wrote, “Cancel Netflix for the health of your kids,” on October 1, while amplifying criticism of Netflix children’s content.
The 227 million figure represents the approximate size of Musk’s potential audience on X—not the number of Netflix customers who saw the posts, canceled subscriptions, or agreed with the campaign. The available reporting does not establish how many subscribers, if any, canceled because of it.

The three shows cited most prominently
The Baby-Sitters Club
Netflix’s The Baby-Sitters Club was a contemporary television adaptation of Ann M. Martin’s long-running book franchise. The campaign treated the Netflix adaptation as one example of programming that allegedly promoted LGBTQ or transgender themes.
That criticism should be separated from the status of the underlying publishing property. The book series began in 1986 and remains available through current chapter-book and graphic-novel editions. Scholastic describes the continuing franchise and lists retailers, including Amazon, where readers can find the original Baby-Sitters Club books. Buying those books is not evidence for or against the boycott; it simply reflects that the television adaptation came from an established children’s publishing series.
Dead End: Paranormal Park
Dead End: Paranormal Park is a Netflix children’s animated series created by Hamish Steele. Netflix’s official listing describes it as a 2022, two-season series and includes it among the service’s LGBTQ+ titles. Netflix’s title page provides the program’s official listing.
That timing matters. Independent trade coverage reported that Steele announced the series had ended after two seasons in January 2023. It was therefore not a newly released show awaiting a third season when Musk’s campaign took place in 2025.

Reporting connected the backlash to comments attributed to Steele about British Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s statement concerning the September 2025 killing of Charlie Kirk. Musk amplified criticism of those remarks while separately reposting claims about transgender representation in children’s programming. The Independent reported on that connection.

Those are two related but distinct issues: criticism of a creator’s public comments does not establish that Netflix endorsed those personal statements, and claims about a program’s themes should not be presented as proven facts merely because campaign participants made them.
CoComelon
CoComelon is a children’s program available through Netflix. Netflix’s official title page confirms the listing.
During the campaign, posts circulated a disputed interpretation of a segment involving two fathers, a baby, clothing, and gender expression. Supporters of the boycott characterized the segment as promoting or encouraging a child to become transgender. The reporting available for this article does not establish that the segment was intended to “raise a child transgender,” so that wording belongs to the campaign’s allegations—not to an objective description of the program or Netflix’s stated purpose.

The “three shows” framing refers to the three programs most clearly identified by Forbes. Vanity Fair reported that Musk also criticized or amplified criticism of Strawberry Shortcake: Berry in the Big City, including a clip involving animated drag-queen imagery. It is best treated as an additional example from the broader campaign rather than substituted for one of the three titles in the principal list.

In other words, the campaign was not limited to a carefully defined three-show review. It combined several posts and examples involving children’s entertainment, LGBTQ representation, gender expression, and the political controversy surrounding Steele.
Why Musk called for a Netflix boycott
The campaign appears to have combined two grievances:
- Content objections: Musk and supporters objected to what they described as transgender, LGBTQ, or “woke” messaging in selected children’s programs.
- Creator controversy: Musk also amplified anger over statements attributed to Steele, the creator of Dead End: Paranormal Park, in the aftermath of Charlie Kirk’s killing and the political reaction to it.
These strands overlapped in Musk’s posts, but they should not be collapsed into a claim that Netflix officially adopted or endorsed Steele’s personal political remarks. Nor do allegations made by boycott supporters automatically establish the intention or meaning of the scenes they criticized.

Did the boycott cause mass cancellations?
There is no reliable figure in the reporting reviewed here showing how many Netflix subscribers canceled because of Musk’s posts. Some users shared screenshots that appeared to show subscription cancellations, but individual screenshots cannot measure a global boycott or distinguish Musk’s influence from other reasons people may leave a service.

The same caution applies to Netflix’s share price. A market movement during the episode cannot, by itself, prove a lasting loss of subscribers, revenue, or enterprise value caused by this particular campaign. Establishing that would require company data or independent analysis that isolates the campaign’s effect.
Musk’s audience size demonstrates potential reach, not conversion. A post shown to 227 million followers may be seen by fewer people, acted on by fewer still, and shared by users who do not subscribe to Netflix or who do not follow the recommendation.
