Adam in Daredevil: Born Again is an artist played by Lou Taylor Pucci and Vanessa Fisk’s lover during Wilson Fisk’s absence. Fisk secretly imprisons him rather than killing him outright, but Adam’s fate is sealed when Fisk brings Vanessa to the hideaway and she shoots him. Adam is an original television character—not Adam Warlock and not a character from the classic Born Again comic.
Spoiler warning: This explainer reveals Adam’s identity, his affair with Vanessa Fisk, Wilson Fisk’s treatment of him, and Adam’s death in season 1 of Daredevil: Born Again.
Adam is Vanessa Fisk’s lover—and an original character
Adam is an artist played by Lou Taylor Pucci. He becomes involved with Vanessa Fisk while her husband, Wilson Fisk, is away. He is not a disguised superhero, a major figure from Daredevil comics, or Adam Warlock. Adam was created for the television series, and his storyline is closely tied to the damaged marriage and criminal power structure of Vanessa and Wilson Fisk.
Adam’s role is relatively small, but his presence exposes what remains beneath Wilson Fisk’s public transformation. Fisk is trying to establish himself as a legitimate mayor and present himself as a man capable of repairing his marriage. Privately, however, he responds to Vanessa’s affair through coercion, captivity, deprivation, and violence.

Who plays Adam?
Lou Taylor Pucci plays Adam. According to Pucci’s comments about the role, Adam was initially conceived as a more intimidating rival to Fisk. The character changed during the show’s creative overhaul and became an artist positioned outside the criminal underworld.
That change helps explain Adam’s screen presence. He is not introduced as a criminal mastermind or a physical match for Fisk. Pucci has described the performance as being built around Adam’s innocence and victimhood: Adam has limited dialogue and very little control over the events that determine his fate. He is an ordinary person pulled into the Fisks’ marriage and power struggle.
What is Adam’s relationship with Vanessa Fisk?
Adam is the man Vanessa became involved with during Wilson Fisk’s absence. The relationship is not presented primarily as a separate romance story. Instead, it becomes a pressure point in the Fisks’ already damaged marriage.
In the premiere, Fisk tells Vanessa that he knows about Adam. Vanessa’s immediate response is to ask Fisk not to kill him. That exchange establishes both the danger Adam is in and Vanessa’s understanding of what Fisk is capable of. Later, Vanessa acknowledges that Fisk’s treatment of his criminal organization is connected to what she did with Adam.
The affair also reflects Vanessa’s changing position. While Fisk was away, contemporary coverage describes Vanessa as having taken over and expanded his criminal enterprise. She was therefore not simply waiting for her husband to return; she was exercising authority in his absence while beginning a relationship with Adam. Adam represents both a personal betrayal and evidence that Vanessa had become a power in her own right.
Why doesn’t Wilson Fisk simply kill Adam?
Fisk’s response is more calculated than an immediate execution. Vanessa asks him not to kill Adam, and Fisk later uses the literal wording of that promise to justify what he does instead: he secretly keeps Adam alive in a basement cell.

Episode 4, “Sic Semper Systema,” reveals that Adam is imprisoned. Fisk visits him, eats near him, and subjects him to deprivation and violence. The arrangement allows Fisk to claim that he has kept his word while violating the promise’s obvious intent. Adam is alive, but Fisk has turned his survival into a prolonged punishment.
This is one of the clearest contrasts between Fisk’s public and private identities in season 1. Publicly, he is attempting to reinvent himself as a legitimate political figure. In private, his response to Vanessa’s affair remains shaped by control, possessiveness, and violence. The basement cell shows that his apparent restraint is not necessarily moral change; it can also be a more deliberate form of cruelty.
How does Adam die?
Adam dies when Fisk brings Vanessa to the hideaway where he is being held. Fisk shows Vanessa the imprisoned Adam during their confrontation over the affair.
Adam begs to be released and promises that he will not expose what happened. Vanessa then takes a gun and shoots him multiple times, including a fatal shot to the head. Adam does not survive season 1.
The scene makes Vanessa an active participant in Adam’s death. Fisk creates the circumstances, abducts and torments Adam, and brings Vanessa to the cell. But Vanessa makes the final decision to shoot him. The sequence therefore deepens the portrayal of the Fisks as a mutually compromised couple: both are willing to use violence to protect their relationship, authority, and position.

Adam’s complete arc therefore requires watching multiple episodes rather than looking for a single self-contained appearance. Watch Daredevil: Born Again to follow the storyline in context; availability and regional access can vary.
Is Adam Adam Warlock?
No. There is no evidence that Adam in Daredevil: Born Again is connected to Adam Warlock. The series identifies him as an artist and Vanessa Fisk’s lover, played by Lou Taylor Pucci. His storyline is grounded in the Fisk marriage and New York’s criminal world, not in the cosmic side of Marvel.
The safest description is that Adam is an original television character. That does not make claims about every possible future storyline, but nothing in season 1 establishes a connection to Adam Warlock.
Is Adam from the Born Again comic?
No. The title Daredevil: Born Again refers to the classic Daredevil storyline by Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli, but Adam is not a character from that documented comic premise.
In the comic arc, Karen Page’s actions expose Matt Murdock’s identity, and the Kingpin uses that knowledge to attack Matt’s relationships, career, and will to live. Adam’s affair with Vanessa and his captivity by Fisk belong to the television series’ original marital and crime plot.
If you want the source material behind the title, read the comic behind the Born Again title. It is best understood as thematic and source-material context—not as a book that explains Adam’s character or adapts his storyline.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why does Adam matter to the season?
Adam functions as human evidence of the contradiction inside Wilson Fisk. Fisk wants the public to see a changed man: a mayor, a husband, and a figure who has moved beyond his criminal past. His treatment of Adam demonstrates that the Kingpin’s old instincts remain intact. He does not merely react emotionally; he designs a punishment that lets him preserve the appearance of keeping a promise while inflicting suffering.

Adam also gives Vanessa’s story consequences. Vanessa is not only the person who had an affair. She is someone who exercised power while Fisk was absent, negotiated with her husband after he returned, and ultimately killed the man caught between them. Her decision makes the relationship between Vanessa and Wilson more morally compromised than a simple story of Fisk punishing an unfaithful spouse.

Adam’s limited agency is part of the point. He has little opportunity to shape the larger conflict and does not become an independent crime-story protagonist. Instead, his vulnerability reveals what the Fisks do to people inside their orbit. His fate turns a private betrayal into a demonstration of the couple’s shared capacity for domination and violence.
What to read after watching Adam’s storyline
For the comic that inspired the series’ title, Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli’s Daredevil: Born Again is the most direct recommendation. The Marvel Premier Collection paperback is listed as a 280-page edition published on February 4, 2025, with ISBN 9781302965983.
Do not buy or recommend it as “Adam’s comic”: Adam does not appear in the documented comic premise. Read it instead for the defining Daredevil-versus-Kingpin story that supplies the television series with its title and thematic lineage. A premium Artist’s Edition is also available as a collector-oriented alternative, but the standard collected edition is the more practical starting point for most readers.
