In September 2025, d4vd’s remaining 2025 tour dates were canceled or removed from ticketing and venue websites after the remains of Celeste Rivas Hernandez, a missing teenager, were identified in the front trunk of a Tesla associated with the singer. At the time, police had not said that d4vd was responsible for her death, and the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner had not determined the cause or manner of death.

Why d4vd’s 2025 tour dates were canceled
The cancellations followed the public identification of Rivas Hernandez’s remains in September 2025. Contemporary reporting said the remaining U.S. dates—including performances in San Francisco and Los Angeles—were marked canceled or removed from ticketing and venue websites. Multiple European dates were also removed; reports identified at least nine European dates affected during that news cycle.

The canceled shows were part of d4vd’s Withered 2025 World Tour. Reports also said a Seattle date was canceled shortly after the victim’s identity became public. Some other international dates still appeared to be available at that point, so the most accurate description of the September development is that the remaining U.S. dates and several European dates were canceled or taken down, rather than that every international performance was simultaneously canceled through a single police or court order.
The cancellations were initially a practical and reputational consequence of the investigation. They were not an announcement that d4vd had been found guilty, and police had not publicly accused him of causing Rivas Hernandez’s death when the dates disappeared.
What was found in the Tesla
On September 8, 2025, decomposed and dismembered remains were found in the front trunk of a Tesla at a tow yard after the vehicle had been impounded. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner later identified the deceased person as Celeste Rivas Hernandez, who had been reported missing.
In a September 29 statement, the Los Angeles Police Department said the Tesla belonged to David Burke. LAPD also said the vehicle had been parked in the location from which it was towed for several weeks. That led investigators to say Rivas Hernandez may have been dead for several weeks before her remains were discovered.

At that stage, LAPD emphasized that the Medical Examiner had not yet determined the cause or manner of death. Police also said that, beyond the alleged concealment of the remains, criminal culpability had not been established publicly. Those statements are important because the initial tour-cancellation reports preceded the later criminal charges.
LAPD later corrected some reported details
On November 25, 2025, LAPD issued a clarification disputing several claims that had circulated in media reports and online discussion. The department said the body was not frozen and that Rivas Hernandez had not been decapitated.
LAPD also confirmed that Burke had traveled to the Santa Barbara area during spring 2025. Investigators, however, said they had drawn no conclusion about whether that trip was connected to the death. The department’s clarification did not resolve the broader questions about how Rivas Hernandez died or who was responsible.

- continuous sexual abuse of a child under 14; and
- unlawful mutilation of human remains.
Prosecutors also alleged special circumstances involving the murder of a witness, financial gain, and lying in wait. The charging announcement further alleged personal use of a sharp instrument.
According to the prosecution’s allegations, Burke invited Rivas Hernandez to his Hollywood Hills residence on April 23, 2025, and she was never seen again. Prosecutors allege that he sexually abused her, killed her, dismembered her body, and concealed the remains in the Tesla. They also allege that the killing was intended to prevent her from exposing their relationship or damaging his career.
Those are allegations, not established facts. Burke has pleaded not guilty. The defense has denied that he murdered Rivas Hernandez or caused her death. Any account of the case should distinguish between what prosecutors allege, what evidence was presented in court, and what has been proved at trial.
What the July 2026 hearing decided
From July 21 through July 27, 2026, a Los Angeles County Superior Court judge heard five days of evidence at Burke’s preliminary hearing. The proceedings included testimony and evidence concerning text messages, forensic findings, the alleged relationship, and the circumstances surrounding Rivas Hernandez’s death.

On July 27, Judge Charlaine F. Olmedo ruled that prosecutors had shown enough evidence under the probable-cause standard for Burke to stand trial. Burke remained accused rather than convicted and continued to plead not guilty.
A preliminary-hearing ruling is not a finding that the defendant committed the charged crimes. It is a lower evidentiary determination: the judge concluded that the prosecution had presented sufficient grounds for the case to continue. At trial, prosecutors will still have to prove the charges beyond a reasonable doubt.

As of August 12, 2026, the next reported court date was an arraignment scheduled for August 31, 2026. The case had not reached a verdict, and no conviction had been entered.
The District Attorney’s Office said the charges could carry a possible death sentence or life without parole if Burke were convicted as charged. The DA had not yet decided whether to seek capital punishment. That potential penalty should not be confused with an actual sentence: it would become relevant only after further prosecutorial decisions, court proceedings, and—if the case reaches that stage—a conviction.

The central update is therefore larger than the original tour story. In September 2025, the public knew about the canceled dates and an unresolved death investigation. By August 2026, prosecutors had filed homicide and child-sex-abuse charges, and a judge had ruled that the case could proceed to trial. That ruling did not determine Burke’s guilt, and the criminal case remained unresolved.
