As of August 13, 2026, Anissa Weier is publicly understood to remain under conditional release and state supervision. Morgan Geyser’s conditional release was revoked on December 23, 2025, after she left a supervised Madison group home; she was returned to Wisconsin Department of Health Services custody, although her exact facility has not been disclosed. Neither woman’s private address or day-to-day life is reliably established in current public reporting.

The most accurate answer is therefore not that either woman is simply “free.” Weier is understood to remain in the community under supervision, while Geyser is back in state mental-health custody. Neither person’s precise current whereabouts should be stated as fact when the public record does not establish them.

Morgan Geyser: release revoked and returned to DHS custody
Morgan Geyser spent approximately seven years at the Winnebago Mental Health Institute before a Waukesha County judge approved a conditional-release plan in 2025. The plan contemplated placement in a supervised group home and the use of GPS monitoring. Some details of the plan were later sealed, and the placement initially discussed in public reporting faced objections and publicity concerns.
On the night of November 22, 2025, Geyser left her Madison group home after removing or disabling her ankle monitor. She was arrested the following day at a truck stop in Posen, Illinois, and later returned to Wisconsin.

On December 23, 2025, Waukesha County Circuit Judge Scott Wagner granted the Wisconsin Department of Health Services petition to revoke her conditional release. Geyser appeared by video and did not contest the petition. The judge found that her decision to leave had been voluntary and ordered her back into DHS custody.
That ruling changed her legal and treatment status. She is no longer living under the 2025 community placement described in public reports. However, the available reporting does not identify the institution to which she was transported. The placement and transport information were sealed or otherwise not disclosed.
It is consequently not accurate to state that Geyser is definitely at Winnebago Mental Health Institute. The supported description is that she was returned to Wisconsin Department of Health Services custody. A particular facility should not be named unless a current official record or reliable report confirms it.
Anissa Weier: under supervised conditional release
Anissa Weier was granted conditional release in 2021 after nearly four years at the Winnebago Mental Health Institute. Her release involved state supervision and restrictions intended to support a controlled transition into the community. Earlier reporting associated the arrangement with living with her father and continuing GPS or other state monitoring.
There is no reliable current public report establishing Weier’s exact residence, employer, relationships or daily routine as of August 13, 2026. Those details should not be filled in with recycled articles, low-quality “where are they now” pages or social-media speculation.
Rank #2
The careful current formulation is that Weier is understood to remain under conditional release and state supervision, but her exact present whereabouts have not been publicly verified. Conditional release is a supervised legal status—not the same thing as an unconditional discharge, and not proof that the underlying case was dismissed.
What happened in the 2014 Slender Man stabbing?
In May 2014, Weier and Geyser, both 12-year-old classmates, lured their classmate Payton Leutner to a park in the Waukesha, Wisconsin, area and attacked her. Geyser stabbed Leutner 19 times. Leutner survived and was able to reach help.
The attack was associated with the girls’ belief that it would satisfy, or help them serve, Slender Man, a fictional internet horror character. That is an important part of the case’s history, but it should not be treated as a complete explanation for the violence. The legal proceedings focused on the defendants’ mental states, psychiatric evidence and continuing treatment needs—not on the idea that a fictional character was literally real or independently caused the attack.

Both cases were handled in adult court. They ultimately resulted in psychiatric commitments rather than ordinary prison sentences. Geyser pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree intentional homicide and received a 40-year psychiatric commitment after an insanity-based disposition. Weier’s case likewise resulted in a long-term mental-health commitment, followed by her conditional release in 2021.
What does “conditional release” mean here?
In this case, conditional release refers to a supervised transition from institutional psychiatric care into the community. It is not the same as being cleared of the offense, having the case dismissed or completing an ordinary prison parole term.
Rank #3
The conditions can involve placement, treatment, monitoring, supervision and restrictions, but the exact requirements vary by case. The detailed 2025 plan for Geyser was not fully public, so it would be misleading to present an unverified list of her conditions as definitive. Public reporting did establish that the plan involved a supervised group-home placement and GPS monitoring.
When a person violates the conditions or leaves an approved placement, the state can seek revocation. Geyser’s departure from the group home and the disabling or removal of her monitor led to the DHS petition that Judge Wagner granted in December 2025. Her return to DHS custody was therefore a revocation of conditional release, not a new finding that the original case had disappeared or been dismissed.
Why are their current whereabouts difficult to verify?
There are two separate issues. First, Geyser’s placement and transport details were sealed or not disclosed, so the public record does not establish her current institution. Reports may identify the mental-health system responsible for her care without naming a specific facility.
Second, Weier’s release and supervision do not create a public entitlement to her address or private life. The fact that a person was involved in a heavily reported juvenile case does not make an alleged home address, employer, social-media account or personal relationship reliable—or appropriate—to publish.
Older reports can also create a false sense of certainty. A 2021 account may accurately describe Weier’s original release arrangement without proving that it remains unchanged in 2026. Likewise, a report about Geyser’s planned placement in 2025 does not prove that she is currently at that location after her release was revoked.

Further viewing: Beware the Slenderman
For readers who want documentary context, Beware the Slenderman examines the case and the events surrounding the 2014 attack. It should be treated as background viewing rather than a substitute for current court reporting, particularly because the legal status of the two defendants has changed since the events covered in older documentaries.

The responsible answer is therefore one that distinguishes public legal status from private whereabouts: Weier remains under supervision, Geyser is back in state mental-health custody, and speculation about either woman’s personal life should not be presented as reporting.

Does conditional release mean that Weier is completely free?
No. Conditional release is a supervised transition from psychiatric custody into the community. It is not the same as an unconditional discharge, a dismissal of the case or ordinary parole.
Did Anissa Weier and Morgan Geyser go to prison?
They were prosecuted in adult court, but the outcomes were psychiatric commitments rather than ordinary prison sentences. Geyser pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree intentional homicide and received a 40-year psychiatric commitment after an insanity-based disposition. Weier also received a long-term mental-health commitment.

Slender Man is a fictional internet horror character. The attack was associated with the girls’ belief in serving or satisfying that character, but the legal proceedings centered on psychiatric evidence and their mental states. It is too simplistic to describe the fictional character as independently causing the violence.
