That wording recognizes the estrangement without presenting one person’s complete recollection as an objective, independently proven record. It also avoids treating estrangement as a formal legal status. In this context, the word describes a publicly reported breakdown and long-term distance in the father-son relationship.
Did Errol Musk own an emerald mine?
The emerald story is one of the most repeated—and most simplified—claims about Errol Musk. Popular versions have described him as the owner of a major Zambian emerald mine and have suggested that its proceeds financed Elon Musk’s later career.

A more accurate documentary or biographical treatment should separate four kinds of material:

- Elon Musk’s account: his descriptions of a deeply troubled relationship and painful childhood experiences.
