Rather than leave one couple out, the show offered Vic and Christine a separate getaway in Malibu, California. Creator Chris Coelen told Netflix Tudum that the pair was chosen because they had fewer overlapping relationships with the other couples—meaning fewer unresolved pod connections and less expected group drama to follow away from the main cast.
Why did Love Is Blind send them to Malibu?

- It gives newly engaged couples time to test their connection in person and in a more physical, everyday setting.
- It puts them together with people they may also have dated in the pods, creating potential tension and unresolved conversations.
Season 10 created a logistical problem because seven couples remained important enough for the show to continue following them, but the production had not previously had the resources to send more than six couples to Mexico. Malibu allowed the series to include all seven couples without expanding the established Cabo trip.
Who was the Malibu couple?
The couple was Dr. Vic St. John and Christine Hamilton. Netflix’s Season 10 cast guide identifies Vic as a professor and Christine as a speech-language pathologist. Their relationship began around a shared interest in giving back, and they became the first couple engaged during the season.
After meeting face-to-face, they learned that their post-engagement trip would not follow the same format as the other couples’. Instead of traveling to Cabo with the rest of the engaged cast, they would continue their relationship in Malibu, focusing on each other without the same group setting.

Why were Vic and Christine selected?
The selection was based largely on the couple’s lack of connections to the rest of the cast. In the pods, contestants often date more than one person. Those overlapping relationships become useful to the show once everyone meets in person because they can lead to awkward reunions, jealousy, confrontations, or unfinished emotional business.
Vic and Christine had fewer of those intersecting relationships. Producers therefore believed that separating them from the main group would cost the show less ensemble drama than separating another couple. In other words, Malibu was a way to preserve the couple’s story while keeping the most interconnected cast members together in Cabo.
Christine later explained at the reunion that she and Vic had been each other’s No. 1 choice from the beginning. Since they did not have much left to resolve with other cast members, a private trip made sense for their storyline as well as for production.

Was the Malibu trip caused by a passport problem?
No. Netflix Tudum explicitly said that a passport issue was not the reason Vic and Christine stayed in California. The official explanation was the combination of production capacity and the couple’s relatively limited overlap with the other relationships.
That distinction matters because the location change initially looked as though it might signal a problem with the couple. Nothing in the official explanation indicates that Malibu was a punishment, a sign that they had been eliminated from the experiment, or proof that the pair was less important to the season. They were still one of the seven engaged couples the show chose to follow.
Was Malibu a real part of their Love Is Blind experience?
Yes. The Malibu trip was their alternative to the standard Cabo getaway. It gave Vic and Christine time to continue adjusting to life together after meeting in person, just in a different location and with less interaction with the other couples.

Christine said she initially worried about whether Vic would still want to continue if their trip was not the usual Mexico experience. They accepted the arrangement, however, and continued their relationship. The difference in destination reflected how the season was structured; it was not presented as evidence that their engagement was less genuine.

Yes. Netflix’s post-season update lists Vic and Christine as still together. They married, made Columbus their home base, and described their relationship as continuing successfully after filming.
Netflix’s reunion coverage likewise described the marriage as going well and said the couple was living under one roof in Columbus. The coverage also mentioned a separate romantic honeymoon surprise from TurboTax tied to their first time filing taxes as a married couple.
