Season 3 begins with the fallout from the season 2 finale. Jackie and Cole finally acknowledge their feelings for each other, but Alex hears the confession. The moment is cut short when George is taken away in an ambulance, forcing the Walters to deal with George’s medical emergency before they can resolve the complicated romantic betrayal.

The season develops several connected storylines:
- Jackie, Cole, and Alex: Jackie follows her feelings for Cole, while Alex has to process the fact that his girlfriend and brother have betrayed him. His eventual path toward forgiveness does not make the triangle disappear overnight.
- Jackie’s independence: Jackie begins moving away from the perfectionist, people-pleasing version of herself. Instead of automatically following the academic and personal future others expect, she starts asking what she actually wants.
- A new teen community space: Jackie leads an initiative intended to create a place for teenagers in Silver Falls, giving her a goal outside the love triangle and her carefully planned future.
- Cole’s racing interest: After football is no longer the center of his identity, Cole works at a garage and becomes interested in race-car driving. His relationship with experienced drag racer Mac gives that interest a more serious direction.
- Alex and rodeo competition: Alex continues pursuing bronc riding, but more serious competition—including rising rider Wylder Holt—raises the pressure around his ambitions.
- The Walter household: George’s recovery, the needs of the ranch, Will’s responsibilities, Hayley’s career opportunity, and the return of Hannah all change the family’s usual balance.
- The younger Walters’ next steps: Danny and Erin face post-graduation decisions, while the younger members of the family deal with school, romance, identity, and growing responsibilities.
Netflix says George is expected to make a full recovery, but the health scare changes how secure the family and ranch feel. The season therefore combines the show’s romance-driven conflicts with questions about adulthood, family responsibility, ambition, and choosing a life for yourself.

- Noah LaLonde as Cole Walter: George and Katherine’s 17-year-old son. Cole grows closer to Jackie, copes with his father’s health scare, and explores race-car driving while working at a garage.
- Ashby Gentry as Alex Walter: Alex is 16 and continues developing as a bronc rider. After overhearing Jackie’s confession about Cole, he must work through the betrayal while also confronting new challenges in rodeo and his relationship with Kiley.
- Sarah Rafferty as Katherine Walter: Jackie’s guardian, George’s wife, mother of the Walter children, and a veterinarian. Katherine helps George recover while trying to guide the family through its latest upheavals.
- Marc Blucas as George Walter: The Walter family patriarch, who is recovering from the medical emergency at the end of season 2.

- Erin Karpluk as Hannah: George’s nomadic sister and the mother of Isaac and Lee. Her return gives her a chance to repair relationships with her sons and the Walter family after years away.
- Chad Rook as Mac: An experienced drag racer who hires Cole to improve one of his cars and encourages Cole’s developing interest in racing.
- Jedidiah Goodacre as Danvers Stacey: A race-car driver who competes against Cole.
- Jake Manley as Wylder Holt: A rising bronc-riding competitor who antagonizes Alex.
How season 3 follows season 2
The season 2 finale left three problems unresolved at once: Jackie and Cole’s confession, Alex’s discovery of it, and George’s sudden medical crisis. Season 3 uses those events as its starting point rather than resetting the family dynamics.

The central romantic conflict remains Jackie, Cole, and Alex. Eliot is an additional complication, but he is not a replacement for the three main romantic leads. His connection to Jackie comes from her former New York life, while the conflict among Jackie, Cole, and Alex grows out of the Walters’ existing relationships.
Outside the romance, Cole and Alex begin moving toward identities that are less dependent on their former roles. Cole’s racing storyline gives him a new outlet after football, while Alex’s bronc-riding ambitions become increasingly competitive. Jackie’s community project similarly gives her a way to build something based on her own priorities.
Is season 4 happening?
Yes. Netflix confirmed season 4 on May 13, 2026. Production had already begun in Calgary, Canada, with Nikki Rodriguez, Noah LaLonde, and Ashby Gentry returning for the next chapter.

Netflix has announced 2027 as the planned release year, but it has not announced a specific premiere date. Any exact 2027 date circulating before Netflix confirms one should be treated as unverified.
Netflix has also said that seasons 1 and 2 accumulated more than 130 million views between the show’s 2023 debut and the end of 2025. That is a Netflix-reported performance figure, not an independently audited audience measurement. Showrunner and executive producer Melanie Halsall has indicated that the series will continue focusing on romance, love triangles, and teenage challenges.

The television series expands beyond the book, particularly in its later seasons, so reading the novel will not directly reveal every season 3 storyline or its ending.
