The song is “Fighter” by Jon Kahn. Inspired by the July 13, 2024, shooting at Donald Trump’s campaign rally near Butler, Pennsylvania, the song reached No. 1 on the iTunes Store’s top-downloads chart shortly after its September 2024 release.
That description needs an important qualification: “Fighter” topped an iTunes digital-download chart, not every music chart. The result did not establish that the song was No. 1 on Apple Music, Spotify, or the overall U.S. music market.
What is Jon Kahn’s “Fighter” about?
“Fighter” is presented as a resilience and comeback song, using boxing imagery to describe someone who has been hit, bruised, counted out, and still refuses to quit. Its recurring message is summarized by the phrase “I’m a fighter.”

News coverage connected the song to the shooting at Trump’s rally in Butler County, Pennsylvania. The FBI described that July 13 incident as an assassination attempt under investigation and as a possible act of domestic terrorism. Trump was injured, other spectators were wounded, and one spectator was killed.
Kahn’s song was subsequently presented as a tribute to Trump and as a response to the attempted assassination. The available reporting supports that connection, but it does not justify describing the song as having been written by Trump or assigning it a more specific political purpose than the sources document.
When did “Fighter” reach No. 1?

This is a historical chart result. It should not be written as though “Fighter” is still No. 1 today, and it should not be treated as a current August 2026 ranking without a new, date-specific chart check.

| Claim | What the evidence supports |
|---|---|
| “Fighter” was No. 1 on iTunes | Yes, when stated as a September 2024 iTunes Store top-downloads or sales-chart result. |
| “Fighter” was No. 1 on Apple Music | Not established by the iTunes report. Apple Music activity is reported separately. |
| “Fighter” was No. 1 on Spotify | Not established by the available evidence. |
| “Fighter” was the No. 1 song in America | Too broad. That wording combines different charts and forms of music consumption. |
Apple’s own documentation distinguishes iTunes Store orders and sales reporting from Apple Music activity and chart information. That distinction is why the most accurate wording is: “Jon Kahn’s Trump-inspired song ‘Fighter’ reached No. 1 on the iTunes Store’s top-downloads chart in September 2024.”

The accurate takeaway
Jon Kahn’s “Fighter” became a politically significant song after its release in September 2024. It was inspired by the attempted assassination of Donald Trump at the July 13 rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, and was credited to Kahn and Chris Wallin. Most importantly, its reported chart achievement was specific: No. 1 on the iTunes Store’s top-downloads chart.
That was a notable digital-sales result, but it was not proof that “Fighter” topped Apple Music, Spotify, streaming activity generally, or every U.S. music chart.
