Radiohead’s 2025 Return: First Live Shows in Seven Years Explained

Radiohead’s 2025 return brought the band back to the stage for the first time since 2018, with 20 European shows in Madrid, Bologna, London, Copenhagen and Berlin. Two Copenhagen dates were later postponed because Thom Yorke developed an extreme throat infection.

Radiohead’s 2025 tour announcement marked the band’s first live return since 2018, but it was not a world tour. The group announced 20 shows across five European cities, using compact four-night residencies in Madrid, Bologna, London, Copenhagen and Berlin. Two Copenhagen dates were later postponed after Thom Yorke developed an extreme throat infection.

Radiohead’s 2025 return was a limited 20-show European residency run—not a world tour. Announced on September 3, 2025, the concerts were the band’s first live performances since 2018. The original plan covered four nights each in Madrid, Bologna, London, Copenhagen, and Berlin, between November 4 and December 12, 2025.

The schedule later changed when Thom Yorke developed an “extreme throat infection.” The first two Copenhagen concerts were postponed and eventually played on December 15 and 16. No new Radiohead album was announced alongside the tour.

What Radiohead announced in September 2025

The announcement ended Radiohead’s longest gap between live appearances. Rather than launching a large arena circuit across multiple continents, the group chose four-night residencies in five European cities. That structure made the return feel deliberately limited: 20 performances, concentrated in major venues, with several days between each city.

Radiohead’s tour page presented the dates as Radiohead Europe 2025. The original itinerary was:

City Venue Originally announced dates
Madrid, Spain Movistar Arena November 4, 5, 7 and 8, 2025
Bologna, Italy Unipol Arena November 14, 15, 17 and 18, 2025
London, United Kingdom The O2 November 21, 22, 24 and 25, 2025
Copenhagen, Denmark Royal Arena December 1, 2, 4 and 5, 2025
Berlin, Germany Uber Arena December 8, 9, 11 and 12, 2025

Why the seven-year gap mattered

Radiohead’s previous live dates were in 2018. That made the 2025 announcement more significant than a routine concert promotion or album-cycle tour: the band had not performed together publicly for roughly seven years.

During the intervening period, Radiohead’s members remained active in other areas. Those activities included solo work, film and theater projects, and The Smile, the side project involving Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood. They provide context for the long absence, but they do not establish that Radiohead had formally broken up.

The announcement also stopped short of confirming new Radiohead music. A tour can bring a band back to the stage without signaling a new record, and later reporting on Jonny Greenwood’s comments described the prospect of new material as uncertain. There was no confirmed studio album attached to the 2025 dates.

The original schedule versus the completed schedule

The first two Copenhagen dates did not take place on December 1 and 2 as originally planned. On December 1, Radiohead announced that the shows would be postponed after Thom Yorke was diagnosed with an “extreme throat infection” that made singing impossible.

The Royal Arena performances were moved to December 15 and 16, 2025. The December 4 and 5 Copenhagen shows remained part of the announced run, followed by the original Berlin dates on December 8, 9, 11 and 12.

That distinction matters in any retrospective:

  • Original itinerary: November 4 through December 12, ending in Berlin.
  • As-performed itinerary: the same 20-show plan, with the December 1 and 2 Copenhagen concerts moved to December 15 and 16.

Was this a world tour?

No. The 2025 announcement covered five European cities only. It did not announce North American, Asian, Australian, or South American dates, and it should not be described as a global or world tour.

The residency format also matters. Four performances in each city gave the band a compact schedule rather than the spread-out routing of a conventional multi-country arena tour. It allowed Radiohead to make a substantial return to the stage without committing publicly to an unlimited touring cycle.

What about a 2027 Radiohead tour?

As of August 12, 2026, no 2026 Radiohead tour dates had been established in the available reporting. A later report said Ed O’Brien had discussed a possible future model beginning in 2027: approximately 20 shows per year, on a different continent each year, with no more than 20 performances annually.

That is a reported touring concept, not a confirmed 2027 itinerary. There are no confirmed cities, venues, dates, ticket details, or North American shows attached to it. Fans should therefore treat any claim that Radiohead has announced a 2027 world tour—or a specific 2027 stop—as unverified unless the band publishes official dates.

The significance of Radiohead’s return

Radiohead’s 2025 shows represented a return to the band’s shared live identity after years in which its members were visible through separate projects. The limited scale was part of the story. Instead of presenting the reunion as an open-ended comeback, the band announced a finite European run with a clear ceiling of 20 shows.

That approach left important questions unanswered, particularly whether the concerts would lead to new recordings or a broader tour. The available information supports a narrower conclusion: Radiohead returned to the stage for a carefully bounded European residency series, and nothing in the announcement guaranteed what would come next.
