No—Billy Bob Thornton was not replaced in Landman Season 2. Paramount+’s official Season 2 materials identify Thornton as the returning star playing Tommy Norris, and the platform’s finale coverage continues to discuss Tommy as Thornton’s character. The claim appears to confuse a major change in Tommy’s fictional job with a real-world casting change.
What actually changed in Landman Season 2?
Tommy Norris experiences a professional upheaval during the season. He is fired from M-Tex and has to pursue a different direction in the oil business. That development may sound like Tommy is being “replaced,” particularly in short headlines or social-media posts, but it concerns the character’s employment inside the story—not the actor playing him.
There are two very different meanings of “replacement” here:

The available official evidence supports the first interpretation. It does not support the claim that Thornton was removed from Landman.
Billy Bob Thornton still plays Tommy Norris
Paramount+’s Season 2 cast information lists Billy Bob Thornton as Tommy Norris. The service’s official Season 2 materials also identify Thornton among the returning ensemble, while its finale coverage continues to center on Tommy’s storyline and names Thornton as the actor portraying him. [c001][c002][c003]
That makes the central fact straightforward: Thornton remains the actor playing Tommy Norris throughout the Season 2 information released by Paramount+. Tommy’s firing is a story event, not an announcement that the series has recast its lead.

Why the rumor may have started
The confusion likely grew out of the contrast between Tommy’s importance to the show and his unstable position at M-Tex. A viewer may describe Tommy as being replaced at the company, and that wording can easily become distorted into “Billy Bob Thornton is being replaced.” Reporting on the rumor similarly links the speculation to Tommy’s Season 2 storyline while indicating that Thornton remains with the series. Neither Tommy’s firing nor his search for a new professional path demonstrates that Thornton is leaving. Television characters can lose jobs, companies can change leadership, and a show can alter its internal power structure without changing its cast.
Season 2 expands the cast rather than replacing Thornton
Landman Season 2 adds and expands several roles, which may also have encouraged speculation that the show was moving away from Thornton’s character.

Does this confirm anything about a future season?
It confirms Thornton’s Season 2 involvement and contradicts the claim that he was replaced for that season. It does not, by itself, establish a long-term contract or guarantee who will appear in every future season. Any later-season casting announcement should be judged separately using a current Paramount or production announcement rather than assumptions based on Tommy’s Season 2 job situation.
Want to own or revisit the season?
A Landman Season 2 Blu-ray is a possible physical-media option for viewers who want to own the season rather than rely on streaming. Retail information should be checked carefully by region: the available evidence includes a non-U.S. listing and secondary indications of a September 22, 2026 physical-media date, but the exact U.S. Amazon edition, price, release status, and stock were not independently verified at publication. The release itself would have no bearing on the casting question.
Fans looking for show-branded items can also browse the official Landman merchandise collection from Paramount Shop, which includes M-Tex Oil hats, shirts, hoodies, mugs, glassware, can coolers, and stickers. Merchandise is a fan option—not evidence of any actor’s future on the show.

Why do people think Billy Bob Thornton was replaced?
Tommy is fired from M-Tex and forced to pursue a new professional direction. That is a change to Tommy’s employment in the story, not evidence that Thornton left the series.
Does this confirm Billy Bob Thornton will remain in every future season?
The available evidence confirms Thornton’s Season 2 return but does not establish his involvement in every possible future season. Future-season casting should be confirmed through a new official announcement.
The Bottom Line
Billy Bob Thornton was not replaced in Landman Season 2. Tommy Norris’s firing from M-Tex is a fictional plot development, while Paramount+’s official Season 2 cast and finale materials confirm Thornton’s continuing role. Sam Elliott, Andy Garcia, and the other prominent Season 2 additions expand the ensemble; none replaces Thornton as Tommy.
