Spoiler: Andy Richter and Emma Slater were eliminated from Dancing with the Stars during Season 34, Week 9, the November 11, 2025 episode billed as the show’s 20th-anniversary “20th Birthday Party.” Richter and Slater had the night’s lowest judges’ score and lowest final leaderboard total, but the elimination was determined by the combination of judges’ scores and viewer votes—not by the judges’ score alone.
The episode was not the Season 34 finale. It was the ninth week of the competition, with seven couples still performing before the results were announced.
Season 34, Week 9 leaderboard
| Rank | Couple | Individual score | Relay or bonus | Final total |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Whitney Leavitt and Mark Ballas | 40/40 | +2 automatic bonus | 42/42 |
| 1 | Dylan Efron and Daniella Karagach | 40/40 | +2 relay bonus | 42/42 |
| 1 | Robert Irwin and Witney Carson | 40/40 | +2 relay bonus | 42/42 |
| 4 | Alix Earle and Val Chmerkovskiy | 40/40 | No bonus | 40/42 |
| 5 | Jordan Chiles and Ezra Sosa | 37/40 | +2 relay bonus | 39/42 |
| 6 | Elaine Hendrix and Alan Bersten | 36/40 | No bonus | 36/42 |
| 7 | Andy Richter and Emma Slater | 29/40 | No bonus | 29/42 |
The three-way tie at the top began with perfect 40/40 individual routines by Leavitt, Efron and Irwin. Their final totals were shaped by the episode’s two-point relay system: Efron and Irwin won their relays, while Leavitt was exempt and received the two points automatically because of immunity carried over from the previous week.

Why Andy Richter was eliminated
Richter and Slater finished at the bottom of the episode leaderboard with 29 points out of a possible 42. Their quickstep earned 29 out of 40 from the judges, and they then lost their Viennese-waltz relay, so they did not add a two-point bonus.
That score put them at a disadvantage, but it is not accurate to say that Richter went home solely because of the judges’ marks. Dancing with the Stars combines the judges’ scores with viewer voting when determining who is eliminated. After the safe couples were announced, Jordan Chiles, Elaine Hendrix and Andy Richter remained in the danger group. Richter and Slater ultimately received the elimination result.
Andy Richter and Emma Slater’s quickstep score
Richter and Slater performed a quickstep to “Puttin’ on the Ritz.” The routine drew inspiration from Jordan Fisher’s Season 25 freestyle. Richter received an 8 from Carrie Ann Inaba and 7s from Derek Hough, returning guest judge Tom Bergeron and Bruno Tonioli:
- Carrie Ann Inaba: 8
- Derek Hough: 7
- Tom Bergeron: 7
- Bruno Tonioli: 7
- Judges’ total: 29/40
Richter and Slater then competed in the Viennese-waltz relay against Dylan Efron and Rumer Willis. Efron and Willis won, leaving Richter without the additional two points. That is why the final episode total was 29/42, rather than 29/40: the denominator includes the possible relay bonus, while Richter’s actual score remained 29.

Every individual performance and score
Elaine Hendrix and Alan Bersten: salsa, 36/40
Hendrix opened the anniversary episode with a salsa to “It Takes Two,” revisiting the spirit of Mario Lopez’s Season 3 finale performance. She received four 9s for 36/40. The performance was especially significant because Hendrix had been coping with a rib injury that had previously forced her to miss competition.
Robert Irwin and Witney Carson: foxtrot, 40/40
Irwin danced an emotional foxtrot inspired by his sister Bindi Irwin’s earlier freestyle. He dedicated the performance to their late father, Steve Irwin, and Bindi joined him on the ballroom floor at the end. The routine earned 10s from every judge, giving Irwin the first perfect score of Season 34 at that point in the competition.
Andy Richter and Emma Slater: quickstep, 29/40
Richter’s quickstep to “Puttin’ on the Ritz” was based on Jordan Fisher’s Season 25 freestyle. Its 29/40 was the lowest individual judges’ total of the night, and the relay loss left Richter and Slater at the bottom of the final leaderboard.
Dylan Efron and Daniella Karagach: Argentine tango, 40/40
Efron performed an Argentine tango inspired by Milo Manheim’s freestyle to “Ain’t No Sunshine.” The judges awarded a perfect 40/40. Efron also partnered with former champion Rumer Willis in the Viennese-waltz relay and defeated Richter and Kaitlyn Bristowe, adding two points for a 42/42 finish.

Jordan Chiles and Ezra Sosa: cha-cha-cha, 37/40
Chiles performed a cha-cha-cha to “Get Up,” drawing from Wayne Brady’s freestyle. She received 9s from Bergeron, Inaba and Tonioli, plus a 10 from Hough, for 37/40. Chiles and Apolo Anton Ohno won the quickstep relay against Hendrix and Rashad Jennings, raising Chiles’s final total to 39/42.
Alix Earle and Val Chmerkovskiy: foxtrot, 40/40
Earle’s foxtrot to “Singin’ in the Rain” was inspired by Nev Schulman’s freestyle and earned a perfect 40/40. She and Joey Graziadei lost the episode’s jive relay to Robert Irwin and Xochitl Gomez, however, so Earle finished on 40/42 without a bonus.
Whitney Leavitt and Mark Ballas: Argentine tango, 40/40
Leavitt closed the individual round with an Argentine tango inspired by Gabby Windey’s “Cell Block Tango” freestyle. She earned four 10s. Because Leavitt had immunity from the previous week’s cumulative standing, she did not participate in a relay and instead received the two bonus points automatically, finishing on 42/42.
Relay results
The anniversary relay round changed the usual partner arrangement. Rather than dancing with their regular professionals, the celebrities were paired with returning Mirrorball champions and other familiar former competitors. The three relays were:

How the episode celebrated 20 years of Dancing with the Stars
The November 11 episode looked back across the show’s two-decade run. Former host Tom Bergeron returned as a guest judge, joining Carrie Ann Inaba, Bruno Tonioli and Derek Hough on the panel. Six original professional dancers from Season 1 also appeared in the opening anniversary celebration.
The seven remaining Season 34 celebrities each performed a routine inspired by a memorable freestyle from an earlier season. Former Mirrorball champions returned for the relay round, making the episode different from a standard week both in its choreography references and in its partner pairings.
