Rachael Carpani, the Australian actress best known for playing Jodi Fountain-McLeod in McLeod’s Daughters, died unexpectedly but peacefully on December 7, 2025, at age 45, her family said. Carpani also appeared in one episode of N.C.I.S.: Los Angeles, but she was not a principal or long-running cast member of the CBS crime drama.
Her family’s announcement was shared publicly by her sister, Georgia, on Instagram on December 15. In the statement, Carpani’s parents, Tony and Gael Carpani, said she had experienced a long battle with chronic illness. They did not identify the illness or disclose an exact cause of death.
What happened to Rachael Carpani?
The family described Carpani’s death as “unexpectedly but peacefully.” Available reporting does not establish a specific medical cause. Although Carpani had spoken publicly about endometriosis and adenomyosis, neither condition has been identified by her family or reputable reporting as the cause of her death.

That distinction is important. Carpani discussed living with severe chronic pain from a young age and later receiving diagnoses of endometriosis and adenomyosis. In 2021, she said surgery had significantly improved her pain. Those public comments provide context about her health history, but they do not prove that either condition caused her death.
The family requested privacy and said there would be no further statements. A private funeral was scheduled for Friday, December 19, 2025.
Her N.C.I.S.: Los Angeles appearance
Carpani appeared as Amy in “Keepin’ It Real,” an episode from the first season of N.C.I.S.: Los Angeles that aired in November 2009. It was a single-episode guest appearance.
The credit explains why N.C.I.S.: Los Angeles appears in headlines about her death, but her most significant and enduring television role was Jodi Fountain-McLeod on the Australian drama McLeod’s Daughters. Describing Carpani as an N.C.I.S.: Los Angeles actress is accurate; suggesting that she was a leading cast member of the series would be misleading.
