MS NOW—not “MS WOW”—has recorded double-digit audience growth in several key comparisons since it replaced the MSNBC name on November 15, 2025. Versant reported that first-half 2026 total-day viewing rose 17% year over year among all viewers and 35% among Adults 25–54. The figures are encouraging, but they measure a broad corporate and programming reset—not the name change in isolation.

Those figures suggest that the rebrand has not damaged the network’s early performance. They do not, however, prove that the name change alone caused the gains. MS NOW also changed its newsroom structure, adjusted its programming schedule, promoted the new brand heavily, expanded digital distribution, and benefited from the constantly changing news cycle.
MSNBC is now MS NOW
The official name is MS NOW, an acronym for “My Source for News, Opinion, and the World.” The network adopted the name as part of Comcast’s planned separation of NBCUniversal’s cable networks from NBC News. Those assets were placed within Versant, the new media company created to operate the separated portfolio.

Versant announced the rebrand on August 18, 2025. The company described the transition in an October explainer as “same mission, new name,” and MS NOW officially replaced MSNBC on November 15, 2025. NBC News Group customer-support documentation later confirmed that MSNBC had become MS NOW and directed viewers to the network’s new website and app. MS NOW content was no longer available through NBC’s apps.
The distinction matters because this was more than a new logo. The network was being repositioned as an independent newsroom and media brand while attempting to retain its existing audience, personalities, editorial identity, and digital reach.
How much did MS NOW grow?
There is no single “MS NOW growth” number. Versant reported several different results, measured over different periods, dayparts, and audience groups. The figures below were attributed to Nielsen Big Data + Panel ratings and were reported by Versant in its July 1, 2026 release.
| Measure | Comparison | All viewers | Adults 25–54 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Total-day viewing | June 2026 vs. June 2025 | Up 12% | Up 24% |
| Weekday live programming | First half of 2026 vs. first half of 2025 | Up 17% | Up 36% |
| Total-day viewing | First half of 2026 vs. first half of 2025 | Up 17% | Up 35% |
| Weekday prime time | First half of 2026 vs. first half of 2025 | Up 8% | Up 23% |
In practical terms, “double-digit growth” applies to some, but not all, of these measurements. First-half prime-time viewing rose 8% among total viewers, for example, although it rose 23% in the Adults 25–54 demographic. A careful account should always identify the period, daypart, demographic, and comparison year rather than treating the phrase as a universal network-wide result.
The reported audience averages
For the first half of 2026, Versant reported that MS NOW averaged:
- 1.3 million viewers in weekday prime time, up 8% year over year;
- 135,000 Adults 25–54 viewers in weekday prime time, up 23%;
- 672,000 viewers across the total day, up 17%; and
- 69,000 Adults 25–54 viewers across the total day, up 35%.
The network’s first-quarter results showed a similar pattern. TheWrap, citing Nielsen data, reported that MS NOW averaged 1.4 million prime-time viewers in the first quarter of 2026, an 8% increase over the first quarter of 2025, while the reported Adults 25–54 figure rose 21%. Total-day viewing was reported at 690,000, up 20%, with the demographic measure up 36%.
TheWrap also compared the first quarter of 2026 with the final quarter of 2025. On that sequential comparison, it reported 23% growth in both prime time and total day among total viewers, with Adults 25–54 gains of 42% in prime time and 47% in total day. Because those are quarter-to-quarter comparisons rather than year-over-year comparisons, they should not be mixed with the first-half figures.
Growth began soon after the rebrand
Versant said MS NOW had achieved its seventh consecutive month of year-over-year growth by June 2026. Earlier company updates described six consecutive months of growth in June and highlighted the network’s most-watched quarter since before the 2024 election in an April report.
The Los Angeles Times offered a different summary of the early performance, reporting that the network’s daily audience had grown 25% since the rebrand and that weeknight prime time had grown 27%. Those figures are broadly consistent with the stronger results reported elsewhere, but they represent a different comparison and should not be substituted for the detailed Nielsen measures above.
The network changed more than its name
The audience figures arrived alongside a substantial programming and organizational strategy. TheWrap reported that MS NOW built an independent newsroom, changed or dropped parts of the previous lineup, and developed partnerships with Crooked Media and Sky News.
The revised schedule included programs such as The Weeknight, The Briefing with Jen Psaki, Money, Power, Politics with Stephanie Ruhle, On the Line with Alicia Menendez, The Moment with Katy Tur, The 11th Hour with Ali Velshi, and Connect with Jacob Soboroff.
Versant said all of the newly introduced June programs delivered year-over-year increases in total viewers during their first two weeks, along with double-digit increases among Adults 25–54. That is an encouraging early signal, but two weeks is a short measurement window and does not establish long-term success for every program.

Established personalities remained important
The rebrand was designed to preserve familiarity as well as introduce change. Versant reported that Morning Joe averaged 782,000 total viewers in the first half of 2026, up 24% among total viewers and 59% among Adults 25–54 compared with the first half of 2025.
The Rachel Maddow Show averaged 2.2 million viewers during the same period. Versant said the program ranked ahead of CNN in both reported audience categories in every month of the year to that point. That is a selected comparison, not evidence that MS NOW surpassed Fox News overall or dominated the entire cable-news market.
Brand recognition was an early challenge
A new name creates a risk that viewers will not recognize the channel, find it in their television guide, or understand whether the underlying service has changed. The Los Angeles Times reported that MS NOW used a $20 million promotional campaign to emphasize that the network’s mission and personalities remained intact.
The same report described internal audience research conducted during the transition. Initially, 31% of surveyed viewers considered the proposed name unappealing or very unappealing. Two months later, that share had fallen to 17%, while favorable responses rose from 30% to 44%.
These are internal research findings reported by the Los Angeles Times, not independently audited Nielsen ratings. They nevertheless help explain the communications problem MS NOW had to solve: persuading existing viewers that the familiar programs were still available while teaching them to search for a different brand name.

Digital video became a major part of the strategy
MS NOW’s reported gains were not limited to conventional television measurements. Versant said the network generated nearly 1.8 billion YouTube views in the first half of 2026 and nearly 254 million YouTube views in June alone. The company said that June total ranked MS NOW first among news organizations in the platform comparisons it cited. It also reported more than 2.9 billion combined YouTube and TikTok views year to date.
These are company-reported platform figures, not the same thing as television viewers or unique people. A view on a social-video platform may represent a short clip, a replay, or a viewer who also watched the network on television. Digital numbers are still strategically important: they broaden discovery, give programs additional ways to reach younger audiences, and reduce dependence on the traditional pay-TV bundle.
The predecessor MSNBC brand already had a substantial digital base. In an SEC filing, Versant said MSNBC.com and the mobile app averaged 30 million monthly unique visitors in 2024. The filing also said the brand was the number-one news brand on YouTube in 2024 and that its audio portfolio had generated nearly 160 million total downloads.

The evidence supports a strong early performance, but it does not isolate the effect of the name change. Several forces may be operating at once:
- Programming changes: New shows and a revised lineup may have attracted viewers independently of the branding.
- Recognizable talent: Hosts such as Joe Scarborough, Rachel Maddow, Jen Psaki, Stephanie Ruhle, Katy Tur, and Ali Velshi helped connect the new identity to the old one.
- News demand: Election aftermath, breaking-news events, and changes in the broader cable-news audience can affect year-over-year comparisons.
- Promotion: The reported $20 million campaign gave the new name unusually high visibility during the transition.
- Digital distribution: Strong YouTube and TikTok performance may introduce MS NOW content to people who do not regularly watch a cable channel.
- Corporate separation: An independent newsroom and partnerships with Crooked Media and Sky News may support a distinct editorial and distribution strategy.
The most defensible conclusion is therefore that the rebrand happened during a broader strategic reset. MS NOW’s growth is real in the reported measurements, but the available evidence cannot show how much came from the name, the schedule, the talent, the promotion, the news cycle, or digital reach.
What does MS NOW’s streaming future look like?
The Los Angeles Times reported that MS NOW planned a direct-to-consumer membership product for early fall 2026. The intended audience was people who wanted the network but did not receive it through a traditional pay-TV package.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesAt the research cutoff of August 12, 2026, that product should be described as planned, not as an established service. Launch timing, pricing, geographic availability, included programming, device support, and any trial or membership terms require confirmation from MS NOW or Versant before publication or purchase guidance is given.
MS NOW’s planned direct-to-consumer membership is the most natural next step in the network’s digital strategy, but it is not yet a verified commercial recommendation. Likewise, readers looking for ways to watch MS NOW without cable should check current carriage information because live-TV distributor lineups, regional availability, and pricing can change.
What the numbers do—and do not—prove
The available evidence supports these conclusions:
- MSNBC officially became MS NOW on November 15, 2025.
- Versant reported year-over-year growth for seven consecutive months by June 2026.
- Several first-half and June 2026 measures rose by double-digit percentages.
- Adults 25–54 generally showed larger percentage gains than total viewers.
- The network’s programming, newsroom structure, promotion, and digital strategy all changed during the same period.
The numbers do not prove that changing “MSNBC” to “MS NOW” caused the audience increase. They also do not show that every program, daypart, platform, or demographic grew by double digits. Nor do they establish that MS NOW overtook Fox News overall. The strongest comparisons in the available reporting are specific ones, including selected comparisons with CNN and reported rankings on digital platforms.
Bottom line
MS NOW’s first months produced the result Versant needed: measurable audience growth after leaving the MSNBC name behind. The strongest reported gains appeared in total-day viewing, weekday live programming, and the Adults 25–54 demographic, while prime time grew more modestly among total viewers.

But this is not a clean experiment in rebranding. MS NOW changed its name at the same time that it changed its corporate structure, newsroom, schedule, partnerships, promotional strategy, and digital distribution. The early ratings suggest that viewers accepted—or at least did not reject—the transition. Whether the network has created a durable new brand will depend on whether those gains continue after the initial publicity and programming reset fade.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the network called MS WOW or MS NOW?
MS WOW is not the network’s official name. The network formerly known as MSNBC officially became MS NOW, meaning “My Source for News, Opinion, and the World,” on November 15, 2025.
Did MS NOW really grow by double digits?
Yes, according to Versant’s reported Nielsen Big Data + Panel figures. In the first half of 2026, total-day viewing was up 17% among total viewers and 35% among Adults 25–54 compared with the first half of 2025. The exact result varies by daypart and demographic.
Can I subscribe to MS NOW without cable?
Not based on the available research cutoff of August 12, 2026. A direct-to-consumer membership product was reported as planned for early fall 2026, but its launch, availability, pricing, and any affiliate program required verification.

The reported ratings show that MS NOW performed better in several comparisons after the rebrand, but they do not prove that the name change alone caused the increase. Programming changes, talent, promotion, digital distribution, news events, and the corporate separation also changed during the same period.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: MS NOW reported substantial year-over-year audience growth after replacing MSNBC, especially in total-day viewing and among Adults 25–54. The evidence supports a successful early transition, not the claim that the name change alone caused the growth.
