The December 23–29, 2025 movie lineup covered seven major arrivals across paid digital rental and subscription streaming. The week began with four premium-video-on-demand releases—Eternity, Sentimental Value, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 and Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere—then moved to Netflix, Peacock and Hulu.
This was a U.S. release-week guide for December 23–29, 2025. Four films arrived as premium video-on-demand rentals or purchases on December 23, followed by Goodbye June on Netflix on December 24 and Bugonia and The Life of Chuck on December 26. “Stream” is therefore a shorthand here: the four December 23 movies were listed for paid digital rental or purchase, not as titles included with a standard streaming subscription.
Availability can change by country, account, subscription tier and time. The dates below describe the historical U.S. window, not a guarantee that every title remains on the same service now.

December 23: four new premium digital releases
1. Eternity — a romantic fantasy with an afterlife deadline
In Eternity, Joan, played by Elizabeth Olsen, dies and wakes in an afterlife way station known as the Junction. She has seven days to choose where—and with whom—she will spend eternity. That decision becomes complicated when she must choose between her longtime husband Larry, played by Miles Teller, and Luke, played by Callum Turner, a former love.

- HD streaming made simple: With America’s number 1 TV streaming platform,* exploring popular apps—plus tons of free movies, shows, and live TV—is as easy as it is fun. *Based on hours streamed—Hypothesis Group
- Compact without compromises: The sleek design of Roku Streaming Stick won’t block neighboring HDMI ports, and it even powers from your TV alone, plugging into the back and staying out of sight. No wall outlet, no extra cords, no clutter.
- No more juggling remotes: Power up your TV, adjust the volume, and control your Roku device with one remote. Use your voice to quickly search, play entertainment, and more.
- Shows on the go: Take your TV to-go when traveling—without needing to log into someone else’s device.
- TV, simplified: With setup that only takes minutes, a simple-to-navigate Home Screen, and an uncluttered remote control that does all you need—Roku makes it easier to watch the TV you love.
The setup makes this the most immediately accessible romantic-comedy choice of the week, while the afterlife setting gives the relationship story a fantastical hook. It should appeal to viewers who enjoy emotional love triangles but want something less conventional than a realistic contemporary romance. A24 identifies it as a 2025 film.
Where to watch: The December 2025 release listing placed Eternity on Amazon for digital rental or purchase. This was a paid PVOD option, not a standard subscription-included title.
2. Sentimental Value — a family drama about art, resentment and a comeback
Joachim Trier’s Sentimental Value centers on estranged sisters Nora and Agnes and their father, Gustav, a film director trying to revive his career. When Nora turns down a role in Gustav’s film, he casts an American actress named Rachel instead, adding professional and personal tension to an already fractured family.
This is the week’s natural prestige-drama pick for viewers interested in complicated family relationships and the uneasy overlap between filmmaking and real life. The release coverage reported a 96% critics score and 94% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes at the time of publication. Those numbers are time-sensitive and may change; they should not be treated as permanent ratings.

Where to watch: It was listed for renting Sentimental Value on Amazon beginning December 23, 2025. Disney+ has since displayed a listing for the film, but a listing alone does not establish a specific streaming date or universal present-day availability.
3. Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 — the franchise horror choice
The sequel takes place one year after the first Five Nights at Freddy’s movie. Former security guard Mike is again pulled into danger when his younger sister, Abby, becomes involved with the murderous animatronics.
This is aimed squarely at fans of the games and the first film. The appeal is the return of familiar characters, creatures and mythology rather than a clean starting point for newcomers. The original release coverage contrasted a negative critical response with stronger fan enthusiasm, but that is an editorial characterization—not a universal verdict. If you have not seen the first movie, watching it first will provide useful context.

Where to watch: The film was available to buy Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 on Amazon or rent digitally from December 23, 2025.
Physical-media update: Universal Pictures Home Entertainment announced 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD editions for February 17, 2026. For collectors and fans who prefer a disc, the most direct product search is Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 Blu-ray. That physical release was a later home-video option, not part of the December 23–29 streaming window.
4. Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere — a focused Nebraska-era music biopic
Jeremy Allen White plays Bruce Springsteen in a film focused on the singer’s personal struggles and the making of Nebraska in the early 1980s. Rather than attempting a complete account of Springsteen’s life and career, the movie concentrates on a particular creative period and the circumstances surrounding one of his most distinctive albums.
That narrow focus makes it a better match for viewers who prefer music biopics about an artist’s creative process over cradle-to-career summaries. Springsteen fans, listeners interested in Nebraska and viewers who enjoy portraits of artists under pressure are the clearest audience.
Where to watch: Disney announced that Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere was available digitally, including on Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV, beginning December 23, 2025. The December window should not be read as confirmation of a physical edition being available at that time.
December 24: Goodbye June on Netflix
Goodbye June follows four siblings thrown into turmoil when their mother becomes ill during the holidays. Helen Mirren, Kate Winslet, Toni Collette, Johnny Flynn, Andrea Riseborough and Timothy Spall lead the ensemble. Winslet both directs and stars.
Netflix’s own description places the family around the mother’s hospital bed as they confront grief, complicated love and the prospect of a final goodbye. That makes this the most direct choice for viewers seeking an emotional holiday story about reconciliation and family history rather than a light seasonal comedy. Its subject matter also suggests that it may be intense for viewers dealing with illness or bereavement.
Where to watch: Goodbye June arrived on Netflix on December 24, 2025. A Netflix subscription or title page may be useful for readers checking the film, but referral eligibility and current catalog availability can vary.

December 26: two contrasting subscription-streaming releases
6. Bugonia — an unsettling alien-conspiracy dark comedy
Two conspiracy-obsessed brothers kidnap a powerful chief executive because they believe she is an undercover alien preparing to destroy Earth. Emma Stone plays the CEO, with Jesse Plemons and Aidan Delbis playing the brothers. Yorgos Lanthimos directs.
The premise places Bugonia firmly in the offbeat corner of the week’s lineup. It is the pick for viewers who like Lanthimos and Stone, paranoid plots, psychological tension and deliberately uncomfortable comedy. It is not a conventional feel-good holiday watch.
Content note: Peacock described the film as rated R for bloody violent content, grisly images, language and a suicide.
Where to watch: Peacock announced exclusive streaming beginning December 26, 2025, making this the week’s Peacock movie pick for streaming Bugonia. A paid subscription may be required, depending on the viewer’s plan and territory.
7. The Life of Chuck — Stephen King adapted as reflective fantasy
Mike Flanagan’s adaptation of Stephen King’s novella follows Charles “Chuck” Krantz, played by Tom Hiddleston. The story unfolds in reverse chronological order, moving through love, loss and the ordinary experiences that give a life meaning. The cast also includes Chiwetel Ejiofor and Karen Gillan.

- 4K picture quality: With Roku Streaming Stick Plus, watch your favorites with brilliant 4K picture and vivid HDR color.

- Shows on the go: Take your TV to-go when traveling—without needing to log into someone else’s device.
Although Stephen King is often associated with horror, The Life of Chuck is better described here as a character-centered drama with fantasy and science-fiction elements. It is suited to viewers looking for a sentimental, contemplative film rather than a conventional scare-driven adaptation. The original coverage noted that one reviewer’s negative personal reaction differed from the movie’s broader warm reception; those are opinions, not a definitive measure of how every viewer will respond.
Where to watch: Hulu’s movie page identifies The Life of Chuck on Hulu, where it was listed as arriving December 26, 2025. Check the service and regional catalog before assuming the title is included in a particular plan.

What “streaming this week” means for these releases
If you wanted one of the four December 23 films, you generally needed to pay separately to rent or buy it digitally. That is different from Goodbye June, Bugonia and The Life of Chuck, which were associated with Netflix, Peacock and Hulu respectively in this release schedule. Subscription catalogs, pricing and rights are not fixed, so the safest check is the relevant service or retailer page for your location.
