Randy Moss is doing well after undergoing treatment for bile-duct cancer. The Pro Football Hall of Fame wide receiver disclosed his diagnosis in December 2024, temporarily stepped away from ESPN’s Sunday NFL Countdown, returned to television for Super Bowl LIX coverage in February 2025 and was later reported to have completed treatment.
In the latest high-confidence public report identified for this update, NFL.com described Moss as cancer-free and quoted him saying that his health was “great.” That is a positive public update, but it is not a substitute for a complete medical record or a detailed prognosis.
What Randy Moss said about his diagnosis
In December 2024, Moss told fans that he was dealing with an internal health issue and asked them to pray for him and his family. Reports published later that month said he had identified himself as a cancer survivor and described the cancer as involving the bile duct between the pancreas and liver.

That description supports calling the illness bile-duct cancer or cancer involving the bile duct. Public reports do not establish a precise cancer stage, pathology, genetic profile or other detailed clinical information.
What treatment has been publicly reported?
Moss said that he had a stent placed in his liver around Thanksgiving and later underwent a six-hour procedure to remove the cancerous tissue. He also said that radiation and chemotherapy were planned.
The publicly available accounts do not provide a complete list of medications, a radiation schedule, an operative report, pathology results, follow-up scans or a surveillance plan. Those details should not be inferred from the diagnosis alone.
Moss completed treatment, according to a 2025 local report
On September 4, 2025, WBTV reported that Moss had completed treatment at Atrium Health Levine Cancer Institute in Charlotte. The report said he rang the hospital’s treatment-completion bell, a milestone often marked by patients at the institution.
“Completed treatment” is a reported treatment milestone. It does not, by itself, establish a permanent cure, eliminate the possibility of recurrence or reveal Moss’s long-term follow-up plan.
When did Randy Moss return to ESPN?
ESPN announced on December 6, 2024, that Moss would take an extended leave from Sunday NFL Countdown to focus on a personal health challenge. The network did not frame the absence as a retirement announcement.

Moss returned to ESPN for the network’s Super Bowl LIX coverage on February 9, 2025. A welcome-back video featuring messages from prominent figures in football brought him to tears. Moss said the experience had been difficult and that he had received substantial support.
Later reporting said he resumed his analyst work during the 2025 NFL season. His return to television indicates that he was able to resume that professional role, but it should not be treated as a medical assessment of his condition.

Because Moss’s detailed medical records are private, the public statement should be understood as a reported update rather than a complete clinical prognosis. What remains private?
The public reports located for this story do not establish:
