Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle is officially returning—but the return is for Part 1, not the sequel many fans are waiting for. The film received additional theatrical screenings in North America and Japan, premiered on Crunchyroll in July 2026, and received Japanese Blu-ray and DVD editions. Meanwhile, Infinity Castle Part 2 is confirmed to be in production but still has no official release date.
That is why the announcement feels like terrible news for the audience most eager to see what happens next: it extends the life of the first film without answering the one question fans actually want answered—when will the second film arrive?
The “return” is a re-release of Infinity Castle Part 1
The official English-language Demon Slayer site announced on February 20, 2026, that Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle would return to cinemas in the United States and Canada on March 6. The engagement included Japanese-language screenings with English subtitles and English-dubbed presentations. Select theaters also offered the film in SCREENX, a premium format using multiple projections to create a 270-degree viewing effect. [C001]
Crunchyroll described the event as a limited theatrical return in the United States and Canada beginning March 6, followed by the United Kingdom beginning March 7. [C002] It was not a new movie, an extended cut, or the premiere of Infinity Castle Part 2.

Japan also continued to host additional screenings after the film’s main theatrical run. The principal Japanese engagement began on July 18, 2025, and ended in most theaters on April 9, 2026, after 266 days. Some cinemas continued showing the film, and a separate one-week re-screening was scheduled for June 12–18, 2026, in connection with a cinema-awards program. [C005][C006][C009]
What fans were hoping the announcement meant
For viewers who interpreted “Infinity Castle returns” as a sequel announcement, the distinction is significant. Infinity Castle is planned as a trilogy adapting the manga’s final Infinity Castle storyline. Part 1 follows Tanjiro, Zenitsu, Inosuke, the Hashira, and the Demon Slayer Corps after Muzan pulls them into the demons’ stronghold. The official Crunchyroll synopsis identifies the capture of Lady Tamayo and the plunge into the Infinity Castle as central elements of the setup. [C012]
Because Part 1 begins the anime’s concluding cinematic story, a repeat theatrical engagement does not function as a substitute for new story content. Fans waiting for the continuation are still waiting.
Part 2 is in production—but there is no release date
The most important current update is positive but limited: Infinity Castle Part 2 is moving forward in production. It has not been canceled. However, the available official information does not provide a confirmed theatrical release date. [C003][C004]

Reporting based on that update characterized the sequel as arriving after 2026 at the earliest, but that should not be treated as a confirmed release year. Crunchyroll later confirmed that the film was actively in production while also making clear that no release date had been announced. [C003][C004]
So the accurate status is:
- Confirmed: Part 2 is in production.
- Not confirmed: a 2026, 2027, or any other specific release year.
- Not announced: a theatrical release date, trailer schedule, or detailed Part 2 marketing campaign.
- Incorrect: saying that Part 2 has been canceled or definitively delayed indefinitely.
Where Part 1 is available
Theatrical screenings
Part 1 returned to theaters in the United States and Canada on March 6, 2026, with the United Kingdom following on March 7. Availability depended on participating cinemas and the limited nature of the engagement. SCREENX presentations were available only at select locations. [C001][C002]

Japan had its own extended run and later re-screening activity, but those dates should not be assumed to apply to other territories. Release schedules, subtitles, dubs, and theater availability vary by country.
Streaming
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle premiered on Crunchyroll on July 28, 2026. Crunchyroll noted that availability could depend on region, so viewers should check the service in their country rather than assume that the film is available worldwide. [C007]

Japanese Blu-ray and DVD editions of Part 1 were released on July 29, 2026. The Japanese site also listed Amazon.co.jp-exclusive packages featuring bonuses such as a steelbook and art prints. [C010]

This is not evidence that Demon Slayer is failing
The absence of a Part 2 date should not be confused with weak performance. Part 1 opened to approximately $70 million in North America and became the biggest anime debut to reach the top position at the domestic box office at that time, according to the Associated Press. [C011]

Its Japanese run also exceeded ¥40 billion and lasted 266 days, according to Crunchyroll. That makes the film one of the major theatrical successes in Japanese cinema and gives the franchise substantial commercial momentum. [C009]

The more reasonable interpretation is that Part 1 remains commercially valuable while the production timetable for the rest of the trilogy has not been disclosed. Re-releases, premium-format screenings, streaming, and physical media can keep the first installment visible and generate additional revenue. None of those developments proves that Part 2 is close to release.
In other words, the bad news is about timing and communication, not about the franchise collapsing. Fans have received more opportunities to watch the film they already saw—or missed—without receiving a date for the film they want next.

Rewatch Part 1 with the trilogy context in mind
The first film is the opening chapter of the final cinematic storyline, not a side project. A theatrical re-release or streaming viewing can be worthwhile for fans who want to revisit the animation, action choreography, and setup before the later installments arrive.
Read the source material
Readers who do not want to wait for the remaining films can follow the canonical manga. VIZ’s official English-language Demon Slayer complete manga box set contains all 23 volumes, along with an exclusive booklet and a double-sided poster. [C013] It is a particularly direct option for readers who want the complete story rather than an unofficial summary or spoiler-heavy online explanation.
Because the films adapt the manga’s final storyline, the box set also provides the clearest way to understand how the Infinity Castle material fits into the complete ending. Readers should remember that the manga will reveal events that the remaining films have not yet adapted.
Consider physical media carefully
Collectors may be interested in the Japanese Part 1 Blu-ray and DVD editions, especially the Amazon.co.jp-exclusive packages. Before purchasing, confirm whether the specific release works with your player and includes the language options you need. “Japanese edition” should not be read as “English-compatible” without checking the individual listing.
Look for officially licensed merchandise
The official Crunchyroll Store maintains an Infinity Castle merchandise section with Demon Slayer figures, apparel, puzzles, media, and other collectibles. [C014] Availability changes, so shoppers should check product details, licensing information, shipping regions, and stock status before buying.

The honest answer to “When is Infinity Castle Part 2 coming out?”
There is no verified answer yet. As of August 12, 2026, Part 2 is confirmed to be in production, but no official release date has been announced. Any precise year or month circulating without a new official announcement should be treated as speculation.
The return of Part 1 is real. The Crunchyroll premiere and Japanese home-video release are real. The sequel is in production. But none of those facts changes the central disappointment: fans still do not know when the next chapter of Demon Slayer’s Infinity Castle trilogy will reach theaters.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 2 releasing in 2026?
No confirmed 2026 release has been announced. Part 2 is in production, but as of August 12, 2026, it has no official release date or confirmed release year.
Was the March 2026 Demon Slayer announcement for Infinity Castle Part 2?
No. The March engagement was a limited theatrical return of Infinity Castle Part 1 in the United States and Canada, with some SCREENX screenings. It was not a Part 2 premiere.
Where can I watch Infinity Castle Part 1?
Part 1 premiered on Crunchyroll on July 28, 2026, subject to regional availability. The film also received limited theatrical screenings and Japanese physical-media releases.
Has Infinity Castle Part 2 been canceled?
No. Available reporting and Crunchyroll’s update indicate that Part 2 is in production. The issue is that no official release date has been provided.
The Bottom Line
The news is disappointing because it gives fans another release of Infinity Castle Part 1 instead of a date for Part 2. The sequel is still in production, and Demon Slayer’s commercial performance remains strong, but viewers should not mistake a re-release, streaming premiere, or physical-media launch for progress toward a confirmed sequel release date.
