The ceremony took place on Thursday, July 11, 2024, and was broadcast live on ABC at 8:00 p.m. Eastern/Pacific. At the time, viewers without cable could watch through a local ABC station with an antenna or through a live-TV streaming service that carried their local ABC affiliate.
As of August 12, 2026, the 2024 ESPYS are a past event. A complete replay may or may not still be available, depending on the current catalog and authentication rules of the service you use.
What channel aired the 2024 ESPYS?
The 2024 ESPYS were presented by Capital One and aired live on ABC on Thursday, July 11, 2024, at 8:00 p.m. Eastern/Pacific. Serena Williams hosted the ceremony, which took place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
That detail matters for cord-cutters: the event was not simply an ESPN-cable broadcast. The main U.S. broadcast was on ABC, so the most dependable cable-free options were the ones that provided access to a local ABC station.

The two reliable cable-free options at the time
| Option | What you needed | Main limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Over-the-air antenna | A television antenna and a local ABC signal | Reception varies by location, building, terrain, and antenna placement |
| Live-TV streaming service | A subscription to a service carrying your local ABC affiliate | ABC availability depends on your ZIP code and market |
A normal on-demand Hulu subscription, ESPN+, or an unauthenticated ESPN account should not have been treated as a guaranteed way to watch the live ceremony.
Option 1: Use an antenna to receive ABC for free
If your home could receive its local ABC station, an antenna was the simplest way to watch the broadcast without cable, an internet subscription, or a monthly live-TV plan. Search for an indoor HDTV antenna if you live reasonably close to the local broadcast towers and want the easiest setup.
Reception is not guaranteed. Distance from the station, hills and other terrain, apartment construction, metal roofing, walls, nearby interference, and antenna placement can all affect the result. An antenna that works well in one neighborhood may perform poorly in another.
How to check an antenna before relying on it
- Identify the ABC affiliate serving your ZIP code.
- Check whether that station’s signal reaches your address using a reputable local broadcast-coverage tool.
- Place the antenna near a window or on an exterior-facing wall when possible.
- Run your television’s channel scan or “Auto Program” function.
- Confirm that ABC appears and that the picture remains stable before the event begins.
The FCC notes that over-the-air viewers may need to rescan their televisions when local stations change frequencies. If an indoor antenna does not produce a reliable signal, an outdoor HDTV antenna may be a more suitable alternative, but it involves additional mounting, cable-routing, and installation considerations. Do not assume that a product advertised as “long range” will guarantee ABC reception at your address.

Option 2: Stream local ABC through a live-TV service
A live-TV streaming service was the closest online replacement for cable. The important qualification is not simply whether a service advertises ABC nationally; it is whether the service carries your local ABC affiliate.
Before subscribing, enter your ZIP code on the provider’s channel-availability page and verify that ABC is included in your market. Local-channel lineups can differ between neighboring cities, and services can change their channel arrangements, pricing, bundles, and terms.
Hulu + Live TV
Hulu + Live TV documents access to live local channels, including ABC in eligible locations, as well as ESPN channels. Hulu also warns that local-channel availability varies by location and that regional restrictions and other limitations may apply.

For the 2024 broadcast, Hulu + Live TV was a reasonable cable-free route for viewers whose local ABC affiliate was included. It is not accurate to extend that conclusion to every Hulu customer: ordinary on-demand Hulu was not the same thing as a live local-ABC subscription.

YouTube TV
YouTube TV was another practical option for viewers whose local ABC station appeared in the service’s ZIP-code-specific lineup. Its availability page allows prospective subscribers to check local networks before signing up.
Choose this route only after confirming ABC for your location. A service’s availability in one city does not establish availability in every market, and a current lineup does not by itself prove exactly what was offered on July 11, 2024.
Other live-TV providers
Other internet-based television providers may carry ABC in particular markets. However, a provider should not be presented as a universal solution without checking both the relevant local affiliate and, for a historical claim, archived evidence of its availability in 2024.

There is also a difference between live access and replay access. A service that carried ABC live does not necessarily retain a complete ESPYS recording in its on-demand library.
Can you watch the 2024 ESPYS on ESPN?
Possibly, but an ESPN event page is not the same as unrestricted access to the complete ceremony. ESPN’s website and app may show event information, clips, highlights, or a replay listing. Live network programming and some replays generally require authentication through an affiliated television or internet provider.
In practical terms:
- An ESPN account by itself should not be assumed to unlock the full ABC broadcast.
- ESPN+ should not be presented as a guaranteed standalone way to watch the 2024 ESPYS.
- A qualifying live-TV subscription may provide the provider credentials needed for authenticated ESPN access, depending on the service and content rights.
- Whether a replay is available is title-specific and can change over time.
Look for the program in the ESPN app or on ESPN.com, but expect to sign in with an eligible provider if the page requires authentication. Clips and highlights are not evidence that the complete ceremony is available.
Could you watch the full ceremony on Hulu now?
Hulu currently has a catalog page for The ESPYS showing a season and an episode, but that listing alone does not establish that the complete 2024 ceremony is playable in every region. Catalog entries, rights, and availability can change.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
If you already subscribe to Hulu, search for The ESPYS and inspect the episode details. Confirm that the listing identifies the 2024 ceremony and that playback actually begins under your plan and location. Do not assume that a regular Hulu subscription, Disney+ bundle, ESPN Select, or ESPN+ automatically includes the full program.

What not to rely on
An alleged free YouTube livestream
There is no basis for promising a universally free, official YouTube livestream of the complete 2024 ceremony. An official channel may publish clips, interviews, or highlights without carrying the full broadcast.
ESPN highlight videos
Search results and ESPN pages can contain short videos associated with the ESPYS. Those videos should not be confused with the complete show.
ESPN+ alone
ESPN+ is not a guaranteed substitute for the ABC broadcast. ESPN’s authentication guidance distinguishes provider-authorized network content from simply having an ESPN account or a standalone streaming subscription.

Piracy sites are not legitimate viewing options. They can expose viewers to malicious downloads, deceptive pop-ups, account theft, and copyright problems. Use an antenna, a verified live-TV service, or an official replay listing instead.

- You want the cheapest legitimate option: Check whether an antenna can receive your local ABC affiliate.
- You want to watch online and already have a live-TV service: Confirm that the service carries local ABC and, if necessary, use its credentials to authenticate with the provider’s supported apps.
- You only have ordinary Hulu or ESPN+: Search the current catalog, but do not assume that either service includes the full ceremony.
- You are looking for the event now: Treat it as an on-demand availability question, not a live-TV question. Search Hulu, ESPN.com, and the ESPN app, and verify that any listing is the complete 2024 program.
Bottom line on the 2024 ESPYS
The original cable-free answer was straightforward: receive ABC with an antenna, or subscribe to a live-TV streaming service that carried your local ABC station. Hulu + Live TV and YouTube TV were reasonable examples, subject to ZIP-code availability.

Today, the 2024 ESPYS are a historical event. There is no live broadcast to watch now, and neither ESPN+ nor a generic ESPN login guarantees the full ceremony. A current replay may exist, but you must verify the specific title, region, plan, and authentication requirement before assuming you can play it.

The ceremony aired live on Thursday, July 11, 2024, at 8:00 p.m. Eastern/Pacific on ABC.
Could I watch the 2024 ESPYS without cable?
Yes. At the time of the broadcast, viewers could use an antenna to receive their local ABC station or use a live-TV streaming service that carried their local ABC affiliate.
Does ESPN+ include the full 2024 ESPYS?
Not as a guaranteed standalone option. ESPN access to network programming and replays may require authentication through an affiliated television or internet provider, and replay rights can change.

That depends on the current catalog, region, plan, and authentication rules. Search for the specific 2024 ceremony in Hulu and ESPN’s official services, and distinguish a complete episode from clips or highlights.
The Bottom Line
The 2024 ESPYS aired on ABC on July 11, 2024, so they are not live today. The original cable-free options were an antenna for local ABC reception or a live-TV streaming service with your local ABC affiliate. For a replay, check the current Hulu and ESPN listings, but do not assume that ordinary Hulu, ESPN+, or an ESPN account includes the complete ceremony.
