Netflix secret codes are numeric shortcuts to narrower Netflix category pages. Enter a code in a web browser and Netflix will show the titles that fit that category and are available to your account, profile, and country. The codes do not unlock an extra catalog, bypass regional licensing, or act as passwords.
For the most complete current reference, use the searchable Netflix category-code database from What's on Netflix. Its April 16, 2026 edition contains more than 2,200 organized codes and includes a CSV download. The curated public list is smaller than Netflix's broader internal category universe, which Netflix says has grown beyond 36,000 IDs.
Update note: This guide was researched on August 12, 2026. The maintained database referenced here is dated April 16, 2026. Netflix can add, rename, regroup, retire, or repopulate category pages, so no code should be treated as permanently active in every country.
What Netflix secret codes actually do
Netflix assigns numeric IDs to editorial categories based on genre, theme, language, era, format, audience, and other viewing traits. A code is simply the number at the end of a category URL:

Replace CODE with a numeric ID, open the address, and Netflix loads the matching browse page. Netflix's official Tudum guide to secret codes explains that the system grew out of the company's DVD-era genre tree and now contains more than 36,000 IDs across its broader and continually changing category system.
What a code can do
- Take you directly to a more specific Netflix browse category.
- Help you find titles that ordinary Netflix rows or broad genre searches may not put in front of you.
- Let you browse categories such as short movies, beginner-friendly K-dramas, supernatural themes, or narrowly defined reality-TV groups.
- Show only titles that Netflix currently makes available to your account, profile, and region.
What a code cannot do
- It cannot reveal a separate or secret catalog.
- It cannot make a title available in a country where Netflix does not have the necessary rights.
- It cannot override maturity restrictions, profile settings, language preferences, or other account conditions.
- It is not a hack, password, security bypass, or way to improve streaming quality.
The word “secret” is therefore a consumer-friendly nickname. These are discoverable category URLs, not confidential access codes.
How to use a Netflix secret code
- Open a desktop or mobile web browser. Use Netflix's website rather than starting in the Netflix TV app. Netflix's own guide documents the browser URL method, while its Help Center search guidance describes ordinary app and website searches by title, person, genre, language, and similar terms—not entering numeric category IDs into an app search box.
- Enter the URL pattern. Type
https://www.netflix.com/browse/genre/CODEinto the address bar and replaceCODEwith the number you want. For example, the code for Suspenseful Movies is448; Netflix has a live U.S. category page at netflix.com/us/browse/genre/448. - Sign in if prompted. Netflix may ask you to log in before displaying the category. Browse the results and use Netflix's normal controls to play a title, add it to My List, or return to browsing.
Use the regular Netflix website for your account and country. The /us/ version shown above is a U.S. example, not a method for changing your catalog. A code page can show different titles—or fewer titles—when opened from another country or profile.
Best Netflix codes to try first
These are useful starting points rather than a complete list. The first four appear in Netflix Tudum's official examples. The remaining entries come from the maintained category index or live Netflix category pages and may not behave identically in every market.

The full Netflix secret-code list
A static article cannot responsibly reproduce every one of the more than 2,200 entries and still promise that the table will remain current. The most complete published list located for April 2026 is the Netflix ID Bible from What's on Netflix. It provides a searchable embedded list and a CSV download, making it more useful than a long, unsearchable page of numbers.
To find a category in the full list:
- Open the database and use its search field, or download the CSV if you want to sort the entries yourself.
- Search for an exact topic such as documentaries, horror, Christmas, Korean, sports, or Western.
- Copy the numeric ID beside the category name.
- Paste it into
https://www.netflix.com/browse/genre/CODE. - Check the resulting Netflix page before relying on the category, because the name, contents, or availability may have changed.

Country and licensing
Netflix catalogs are regional. A category code does not transfer a title from one country to another. Netflix explains that a title may be unavailable because release timing, licensing rights, regional availability, profile maturity settings, language settings, or other account conditions differ. Profile settings
Two profiles on the same account can receive different results. Maturity ratings and language preferences can affect what Netflix displays during search and browsing. If a category appears unusually short, check that you are using the intended profile and review its viewing restrictions with the account owner. Netflix documents these profile-related search differences in its search and browsing guidance.
Dynamic category pages
Netflix can retire, rename, regroup, or repopulate a category. A code that worked when a list was published may later produce an empty page, a smaller selection, a different title mix, or a redirect. Netflix also says that new categories continue to be added, so an old list is not necessarily a complete list.

Are Netflix codes better than normal search?
They solve a specific discovery problem: Netflix's home screen is personalized, and broad genre rows can be too general. A code can take you straight to a narrow editorial shelf. It is especially useful when you know the kind of viewing session you want—such as a short movie or a particular theme—but not the title.

- “The codes unlock hidden movies.” No. They filter or route you to category pages; they do not add titles to Netflix.
- “Every code works worldwide.” No. The URL format is broadly useful, but the results depend on country, account, profile, and current Netflix catalog data.
