Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Yes—if you want the broadest all-purpose live-TV package rather than the lowest monthly bill. As of August 2026, YouTube TV’s standard plan costs $82.99 per month and includes more than 100 channels, local broadcast networks in many markets, major national news and entertainment networks, substantial sports coverage, unlimited cloud DVR, multiview, six household accounts, and three simultaneous streams.
That combination still makes YouTube TV one of the strongest choices for a general-interest U.S. household. But the price changes the question from whether it has many channels to whether it has your channels. YouTube TV does not carry every network: A&E, HISTORY, Lifetime, VICE, MLB Network, NHL Network, and many regional sports networks are notable gaps. Local lineups also vary by ZIP code, and premium sports or entertainment add-ons can push the real monthly cost well above $82.99.
The short verdict
YouTube TV remains arguably the best broad channel-selection choice for households that want local television, national news, entertainment, family programming, and sports in one interface. Its unlimited DVR and multiview features make the service especially practical for households with different viewing habits and for sports fans who want several live games on screen.
It is not the best value for everyone. A viewer who mainly wants one genre, a particular regional sports network, A&E-owned channels, MLB Network, or NHL Network should compare the lineup channel by channel before subscribing. YouTube TV’s newer lower-priced genre plans may reduce waste, but they are not fully customizable packages.

YouTube TV plans and recurring prices
The standard plan is the service’s most comprehensive option. Google also offers narrower plans aimed at particular types of viewers. The following are the recurring prices listed for August 2026:
| Plan | Monthly price | Who it may suit | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Main plan | $82.99 | Households wanting the broadest mix of local, news, entertainment, and sports networks | Highest regular price |
| Sports Plan | $64.99 | Viewers focused primarily on sports | Fewer general-interest channels |
| Sports + News Plan | $71.99 | Sports and news viewers who do not need the full lineup | Less entertainment and lifestyle coverage than the main plan |
| Entertainment Plan | $54.99 | Viewers prioritizing entertainment programming | Not the full sports and general channel package |
| News + Entertainment + Family Plan | $69.99 | Households centered on news, entertainment, and family content | Smaller lineup than the main plan |
Promotional pricing for new subscribers may temporarily lower the first bills, but the recurring price is the number to use when comparing YouTube TV with cable or another live-TV service. Google says the genre plans retain important product features such as unlimited DVR, family sharing, multiview, and concurrent streaming, even though they carry fewer channels. They do not let customers build a completely à-la-carte package by selecting individual networks from the main plan. See Google’s plan comparison and feature details for the current distinctions.
Why the channel selection is still a major strength
YouTube TV’s advantage is not one unusually valuable channel. It is the ability to combine several kinds of television in one subscription:

- National news: The main plan is designed to cover the major cable-news viewing habit alongside broadcast news.
- Entertainment and lifestyle: Networks such as HGTV are part of the broad general-interest mix.
- Sports: The lineup includes substantial national sports coverage and networks such as TNT, although a particular league, game, or regional team is not guaranteed.
- Family and reality programming: The main plan is broad enough to serve different members of a household without requiring each person to maintain a separate live-TV subscription.
Google says its local-network reach covers more than 98% of U.S. TV households, but that is a national measure rather than a promise for every address. The company directs prospective customers to enter a ZIP code because local availability changes by market. The safest approach is to use the official lineup checker before paying.
This breadth is why YouTube TV can feel more like a cable replacement than a specialized streaming bundle. One household can watch local news, record a network series, follow national sports, and switch to cable entertainment channels without changing apps. That convenience is the core justification for the price.

The omissions that can change the verdict
A list of more than 100 channels can hide several important exclusions. Current independent channel comparisons identify these notable gaps:
- Lifetime
- A&E
- HISTORY
- VICE
- MLB Network
- NHL Network
- Several regional sports networks, including FOX regional sports networks, YES, and NESN
These omissions matter more than the total channel count if they contain the programs you actually watch. A documentary-focused viewer, for example, should not assume that a large general lineup automatically includes the documentary or history networks they want. If A&E, HISTORY, or a particular sports network is a weekly necessity, YouTube TV may require a second service or may simply be the wrong base package.

Carriage agreements and sports rights can change. The availability of a network or program can also depend on location, content rights, the network itself, and the viewing device. Google documents those restrictions in its YouTube TV availability guidance. Treat the omissions above as a decision checklist, not a permanent promise that the lineup will never change.
Features that help explain the $82.99 price
Unlimited cloud DVR
YouTube TV includes unlimited DVR storage rather than making viewers manage a small recording quota. You add programs to a personal library, and the service records available episodes or events for later viewing. The important qualification is that unlimited storage does not mean permanent ownership: recordings generally expire after nine months. Google explains how the library and expiration rules work in its DVR help documentation.
For a household recording many programs at once, this is one of YouTube TV’s most practical advantages. It is less compelling for someone who rarely watches live television or recordings and mainly wants an inexpensive on-demand catalog.
Multiview for sports and live events
Multiview can place up to four live streams on one screen. That makes it particularly useful when several games or live events overlap. It is a genuine differentiator for sports-heavy households, although multiview cannot overcome a rights restriction: if YouTube TV does not carry the relevant network or event in your market, the feature cannot create access to it.

- Compact without compromises: Our sleek design won’t block neighboring HDMI ports, so you can switch from streaming to gaming with ease. Plus, it’s designed to stay hidden behind your TV, keeping wires neatly out of sight
Household accounts and simultaneous streams
The standard service supports up to six household accounts and three simultaneous streams. Separate accounts make recommendations and DVR libraries more manageable for family members, while the stream limit is generally adequate for a small household. Family sharing is intended for people who live in the same household, not for distributing a subscription among friends or relatives in different homes.
4K Plus is an add-on, not a promise that everything is 4K
The optional 4K Plus add-on can provide unlimited in-home streams, offline mobile DVR downloads for eligible content, and selected 4K programming. It does not convert every channel or program to 4K. Because the add-on increases the monthly bill and its benefits apply only to eligible content and compatible situations, it should be evaluated separately from the value of the main plan.
Premium add-ons can substantially change the total
YouTube TV offers additional paid options that may include Max, Paramount+ with SHOWTIME, STARZ, MGM+, AMC+, NFL Sunday Ticket, and Sports Plus. These are useful if one service is otherwise close to replacing several subscriptions, but they make the headline price less representative of the final bill. Compare the total cost of the channels and sports rights you actually need, not just the base-plan price.
Devices, internet, and location limits
YouTube TV is an internet-delivered service, so a compatible device and a dependable internet for live TV streaming are part of the setup. Google lists support for computers, mobile devices, smart TVs, game consoles, Apple TV, Chromecast with Google TV, Fire TV devices, Roku devices, Google TV, PlayStation, Xbox, and selected smart-TV platforms. Device support can change, and Google says only authorized devices can access the service.
If your television needs an external streaming player, Google lists the Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K among supported devices. It is a compatibility reference rather than a claim that one streaming device is universally better. Other supported choices include Roku Ultra, Apple TV 4K, and Chromecast with Google TV; check the current device requirements before buying hardware.
YouTube TV is available only in the United States. You can use it while traveling within the U.S., but the local programming shown can change with the travel location. International access is unavailable. Household members also need to use the service periodically from the home area to maintain access to local programming. These restrictions are especially important for frequent travelers and families living in multiple locations; the home-area and travel rules explain the current policy.
How to decide whether YouTube TV is worth it
At $82.99 per month, the main plan costs about $995.88 over twelve months before taxes, price changes, promotions, or add-ons. That is not a budget streaming subscription. Its value depends on how many separate services, equipment costs, and cable fees it could replace.
The strongest value case
- You want local broadcast channels and they are available at your address.
- Your household watches a mixture of news, entertainment, family programming, and sports.
- You record enough television to benefit from unlimited DVR.
- Several household members need their own accounts.
- You regularly watch overlapping live events and would use multiview.
- The main plan’s included channels cover most of your must-have networks without expensive add-ons.
The weaker value case
- You want only one category, such as entertainment or sports, and a genre plan covers it.
- Your must-have channels are A&E, HISTORY, Lifetime, VICE, MLB Network, NHL Network, or a specific regional sports network that YouTube TV does not carry.
- You rarely watch live television, record programs, or use local channels.
- You would need several premium add-ons, making the final cost much higher than the base price.
- You live outside the U.S. or need unrestricted international access.
A channel-by-channel check before subscribing
- Enter your ZIP code. Confirm the exact ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, PBS, CW, Telemundo, and other local stations available at your address.
- Write down your ten most important networks. Check each one individually rather than relying on the more-than-100-channel headline.
- Check sports rights and regional coverage. Confirm the network carrying your team or league in your location. A national sports reputation does not guarantee access to every local game.
- Compare the main plan with the genre plans. Make sure the cheaper plan does not remove a channel your household watches regularly. Remember that the genre plans are curated packages, not a custom channel builder.
- Add the real extras. Include any premium networks, NFL Sunday Ticket, Sports Plus, or 4K Plus features you would actually purchase.
- Confirm your setup. Check that your television, streaming player, game console, or mobile device is supported and that your home internet is suitable for live streaming.
Who should choose YouTube TV?
Choose the main plan if you are replacing a broad cable package and want a single service for local television, major national networks, sports, news, and recordings. The service is also a strong fit for households that can use multiview and the six-account structure.

- 4K picture quality: With Roku Streaming Stick Plus, watch your favorites with brilliant 4K picture and vivid HDR color.
- Compact without compromises: Our sleek design won’t block neighboring HDMI ports, and it even powers from your TV alone, plugging into the back and staying out of sight. No wall outlet, no extra cords, no clutter.

Consider a genre plan if your viewing is concentrated in sports, news and sports, entertainment, or news, entertainment, and family programming. The lower price is meaningful only if the missing channels are genuinely unimportant to you.
Compare competitors first if your viewing revolves around A&E-owned networks, HISTORY, Lifetime, VICE, MLB Network, NHL Network, or a regional sports network. A smaller service with the right channels can be a better value than a larger service whose headline lineup leaves out your priorities.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Final assessment
YouTube TV earns the title’s conclusion with a qualification: it offers one of the strongest broad channel selections available to a general-interest U.S. household, but it does not offer every channel and it is no longer inexpensive. Its best features—unlimited DVR, multiview, local-network coverage, household accounts, and three simultaneous streams—make the premium easier to justify when multiple people actively use them.
The right buying decision is therefore not simply whether YouTube TV has more channels. It is whether the $82.99 plan includes the local stations, sports networks, and specialized channels your household watches, while reducing the need for other subscriptions. Check the ZIP-code lineup and your must-have channels first; if they match, YouTube TV remains a leading cable-replacement choice.

Best Value
Does YouTube TV include MLB Network or NHL Network?
The current channel comparison identifies both MLB Network and NHL Network as omissions. YouTube TV can still carry substantial national sports coverage, but that does not mean it carries every league network or local sports channel.
Are local channels guaranteed with YouTube TV?
No. Local availability depends on your ZIP code and market. Depending on location, the service may offer ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, PBS, The CW, Telemundo, or only some of them. Use YouTube TV’s local-lineup checker before subscribing.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
How long do YouTube TV DVR recordings last?
YouTube TV includes unlimited DVR storage, but recordings generally expire after nine months. Unlimited describes the storage capacity, not permanent access to every recording.
Can I use YouTube TV outside the United States?
No. YouTube TV is U.S.-only. Travel within the United States is supported, but local programming may change with your location, and household members must periodically use the service from the home area.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: YouTube TV is still a top choice for a broad-interest U.S. household that wants locals, national news, entertainment, sports, unlimited DVR, and multiview in one service. At $82.99 per month, subscribe only after checking your ZIP-code lineup and confirming that its omissions—especially A&E, HISTORY, Lifetime, MLB Network, NHL Network, and regional sports networks—will not force you to pay for another service.
