Miss Scarlet Season 5—still called Miss Scarlet and The Duke in some older listings and searches—is a six-episode transition season. William “The Duke” Wellington is away in New York, and Eliza Scarlet must rebuild her working relationship with Scotland Yard after the arrival of Detective Inspector Alexander Blake. The season aired on PBS MASTERPIECE in the United States from January 12 through February 16, 2025.
Rather than ending Eliza’s story, Season 5 changes the show’s central partnership. Eliza’s detective agency is growing, Clarence is moving into fieldwork, and Blake becomes her new professional obstacle and potential personal counterpart.

Is Miss Scarlet Season 5 the same as Miss Scarlet and The Duke Season 5?
Yes. Miss Scarlet is the newer official title for the series formerly presented as Miss Scarlet and The Duke. The title change reflects the fact that William Wellington, known as “The Duke,” is no longer the central Scotland Yard character in Season 5.
For search purposes, both titles remain useful: Miss Scarlet Season 5 and Miss Scarlet and The Duke Season 5. The most precise description is “Season 5 of Miss Scarlet, formerly titled Miss Scarlet and The Duke.”

What changes in Season 5?
The Duke has been away in New York for several months when the season begins. His absence creates both a practical and emotional problem for Eliza: she needs continued access to Scotland Yard’s resources, but the official who arrives to oversee the Yard has little interest in working with private detectives.
That official is Detective Inspector Alexander Blake, played by Tom Durant-Pritchard. Blake does not treat Eliza as an established partner. He sees her as a forceful private investigator trying to operate inside an institution that he controls. Eliza, meanwhile, is not willing to surrender the authority she has earned.
The result is a different kind of professional tension from the first four seasons. The Eliza-and-William dynamic was built on familiarity, mutual dependence, and flirtation. Eliza and Blake begin from open friction: she assumes she can make herself useful at Scotland Yard, while he dislikes her assumption that she belongs there.

Season 5 episode guide
The summaries below include major case setups and selected resolutions. Read the Episode 5 and Episode 6 sections only if you are comfortable with spoilers.
Episode 1 — “The Rival”
U.S. airdate: January 12, 2025. Runtime: 52 minutes 20 seconds.
A new detective inspector arrives at Scotland Yard, and Eliza must prove her competence again. Alexander Blake’s refusal to use private detectives threatens the working arrangement Eliza has depended on, forcing her to find a way to remain useful to the Yard on her own terms.
The episode also establishes the season’s personal premise. William is in New York and is not immediately returning, leaving Eliza to decide how much of her future can remain tied to a partnership that is no longer available in the same form.
Episode 2 — “The Guild”
U.S. airdate: January 19, 2025. Runtime: 53 minutes 5 seconds.
Eliza investigates the murder of a prominent private detective whose professional reputation conceals a collection of secrets. The case draws her into conflict with the Guild of Private Detectives, an organization with money and influence and a strong interest in resisting Blake’s policy toward private investigators.
Eliza warns Blake that the Guild may try to undermine him. The episode therefore works as both a murder mystery and a dispute over who gets to investigate crime in Victorian London.
Episode 3 — “The Thames Reaper”
U.S. airdate: January 26, 2025. Runtime: 53 minutes 5 seconds.
A suspected serial killer appears to be operating along the Thames. Eliza is caught between Fleet Street and Scotland Yard as newspapers and police compete to control the story as well as the investigation.
The case centers on a newspaper editor whose paper has benefited commercially from the murders and on a series of letters apparently connected to the killer. The episode explores the danger of turning violent crime into a profitable public spectacle while continuing Eliza’s uneasy cooperation with Blake.
Episode 4 — “The Deal”
U.S. airdate: February 2, 2025. Runtime: 53 minutes 5 seconds.

Episode 5 — “The Enchanted Mirror”
U.S. airdate: February 9, 2025. Runtime: 53 minutes 5 seconds.
Eliza investigates a murder connected to Victorian theater, an operetta manuscript, and a safe concealed behind a mirror. The case takes her into the competitive and dangerous world of the stage, where ownership of creative work carries serious financial consequences.

Eliza faces a conflict of interest after she is hired to investigate the personal life of Police Commissioner Fitzroy. The assignment places her professional obligations against the relationships and institutional loyalties surrounding Scotland Yard.
The finale also advances several supporting stories: Phelps is dealing with a separation, Ivy and Barnabus are preparing for marriage, and Blake’s relationship with his daughter receives attention. The episode closes the six-episode season while keeping the show’s larger character changes in motion.

Cast and characters
- Kate Phillips as Eliza Scarlet
- Eliza is the owner of a private detective agency and the series’ central character. Season 5 focuses on her independence, her agency’s growth, and her refusal to accept a reduced role simply because the Scotland Yard leadership has changed.
- Tom Durant-Pritchard as Detective Inspector Alexander Blake
- Blake takes control at Scotland Yard and becomes Eliza’s principal professional foil in place of William Wellington. He is skeptical of private detectives and initially has a poor working relationship with Eliza.
- Stuart Martin as William “The Duke” Wellington
- William is absent from the Season 5 storyline’s immediate setting, with the character away in New York. His absence is central to the season’s premise rather than a minor change to the ensemble.
- Clarence
- Clarence begins moving out of office work and into field investigations, reflecting the broader theme of characters taking on new responsibilities.
- Ivy and Barnabus Potts
- Their relationship and working lives develop alongside Eliza’s cases. Ivy struggles with the sense that others are progressing, while Barnabus receives a promotion and the couple moves toward marriage.
- Patrick Nash
- Nash remains connected to the series’ criminal and investigative storylines. His release from prison and concern for his brother drive the central conflict in “The Deal.”
- Police Commissioner Fitzroy and Detective Phelps
- Both are important to the personal and professional complications of the Season 5 finale.
Does Season 5 focus on Eliza and Blake romantically?
Season 5 does not reduce the story to a simple replacement of William with Blake. Its main change is professional: Blake controls access to Scotland Yard, and Eliza has to negotiate with an inspector who does not automatically accept her expertise.
There is, however, an evolving personal dimension. PBS’s promotional material describes Eliza and Blake’s relationship as fraught, and by Episode 5 the two have grown closer. The season is best understood as opening a new possibility rather than confirming a definitive romantic outcome.
Where to watch Miss Scarlet Season 5
In the United States, the season originally aired on PBS MASTERPIECE. PBS says the series is available through pbs.org and the PBS app, although the exact catalog and access conditions can vary by local station, account, and licensing status. Viewers can stream Miss Scarlet on PBS or check whether their local PBS service offers the season through PBS Passport.
PBS has also identified PBS MASTERPIECE on Prime Video as a viewing route for Seasons 1–5 in the United States and Canada. Subscription requirements, pricing, and episode availability can change, so confirm the listing for your country before subscribing.
Amazon’s Prime Video ecosystem has a listing for the six-episode 2025 season. If it is available in your storefront, you can watch Miss Scarlet Season 5 on Prime Video. The listing may offer purchase, subscription, or other options depending on region; do not assume that an option shown in the United States or Canada will appear elsewhere.
Availability note: PBS Passport pages have listed Season 5 streaming-expiration dates as late as February 15, 2032, but expiration information is not a guarantee of uninterrupted access. Local station rights, account eligibility, and later licensing changes can affect what a viewer sees.
Is there a Season 5 DVD?
Do not assume that a physical Season 5 DVD is available in the United States. Research confirms physical DVD editions for earlier seasons, including a Miss Scarlet and the Duke: The Complete Seasons 1–3 set, but it does not establish a guaranteed Season 5-specific U.S. release.
Fans who want a physical rewatch edition can search for Miss Scarlet and The Duke DVD releases, but should verify the seasons included, region code, subtitles, seller, and current stock before buying. A listing for an earlier-season set is not evidence that Season 5 is included.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Is Season 5 the end of Miss Scarlet?
No. PBS has announced that Season 7 will be the series finale. Season 5 is therefore not the conclusion of Eliza’s story. It is the beginning of the post-Duke phase, with later seasons able to develop the Blake-centered professional arrangement introduced here.
This makes Season 5 especially important for viewers deciding whether to continue after William’s absence. The show is not simply pausing the original format; it is deliberately repositioning Eliza as the center of the series and allowing her agency, Clarence, Ivy, Barnabus, Nash, and Blake to carry more of the ongoing narrative.
What kind of season is Season 5?
- A transition season: William is away, and Blake takes over as Eliza’s main Scotland Yard counterpart.
- A six-episode mystery season: The cases involve private detectives, a suspected serial killer, criminal connections, theater, and a police commissioner’s personal life.
- A character-development season: Clarence begins fieldwork, Barnabus advances, Ivy reassesses her place, and Blake’s family life receives more attention.
- A continuation, not a finale: The series continues beyond Season 5, with Season 7 announced as the ending.
