“Incised wounds” is medical wording for cutting injuries. “Homicide” is the coroner’s classification of the manner of death; it is not a criminal conviction and does not, by itself, identify the person responsible for the death or establish every allegation later made in the criminal case.
The public coroner notice supplied for this report did not list rape, severed hands or near-decapitation. Those descriptions must therefore be attributed to the indictment, law-enforcement statements or media reports—not described simply as autopsy findings.
What prosecutors allege
A Lucas County grand jury indicted Jones on April 23, 2025. The indictment accused him of more than a dozen offenses, including:
- aggravated murder;
- rape;
- kidnapping;
- aggravated burglary;
- endangering children;
- gross abuse of a corpse; and
- tampering with evidence.

After Jones was located in Columbus on March 25, 2025, a Columbus police official identified in reporting as Brian Steel was quoted by 13 Action News as describing an alleged rape and severe injuries, including the cutting of the child’s hands and an injury to the throat that was described in extremely graphic terms.
Toledo’s police chief subsequently cautioned that those details had not yet been confirmed by Toledo investigators and criticized their public release. That distinction matters: a statement attributed to an investigating officer, a prosecutor’s allegation in an indictment and a finding in a completed medical report are three different kinds of evidence.

What happened after police identified Jones

Community memorial for Kei’Mani Latigue
The public response has also included a memorial effort rather than only criminal proceedings. In May 2026, Toledo City Council approved an honorary dedication of Wilmot Street as “Kei’Mani Latigue Way.”
The council resolution described Latigue as born on March 28, 2011, and remembered her as a Spring Elementary student known for academic achievement, athleticism, determination, kindness and compassion.
